I use the hoppes lubricant or rem-oil and clean cotton rags to clean all my guns, using nylon brush and nylon/steel picks. Ive never really needed anything else, and it works. I usually do a thorough wipedown after cleaning to remove excess oil. May have to try the bore cleaner, but I really don't think I've ever had anything so stuck on that its needed.
I hate the leaking issue too. I store them in a small sandwich bag on the shelf and keep a small amount in a different container for cleaning my guns. I use an old fish food container that I can dip patches/cotton swaps in to.
Hoppes #9 solvent only works on carbon, it won't work on copper. The lubricating oil is good to use for long-term storage, I use a thin coat with a patch.
The Hoppe's lubricating oil is nothing more than 100% white mineral oil. I've confirmed it with Hoppe's customer service as well as verified it with the chemical company that actually manufactures it to make sure there were no unlisted or proprietary ingredients on the SDS/MSDS. You can buy it White Mineral Oil in any pharmacy much cheaper and get a lot more, plus it's actually better since it's USP(more refined/cleaner).
I have been trying to find the difference between the solvent and the one that says bore cleaner and see that solvent isnt even shown on the website. so it's the same thing but it is now rebranded?
I heard the oils from your fingers making contact with the barrel could rust the barrel could the aresol lubricant be used to clean the outside of the barrel to prevent the rust
Alway's wear gloves ! A chemical is still a chemical . That doesn't belong in your body . Nice video . And I'm someone that doesn't care how many times you say something at least you made this video . You may have helped some new shooter . Good luck in the future !
So it can be used on any part of the metal not just the bore? It can damage or stain the metal if left on? So when cleaning trigger assemblies (stuck in cracks) would you want to use some other solvent then?
I use Shooter's Choice for copper and leading issues, CLP for general cleaning, grease for lubrication, and sometimes Rem Oil for preservation. At some point, I should make the switch to Frog Lube/low odor stuff.
A demonstration would have been nice. 10 minutes is a lot of time to hear about a product, but not walk away with one or more examples of it being used.
U said that the orange oil and the brown bottle of cleaner was the same thing...no...the brown bottle is a cleaner and solvent the orange bottle is a oil u put on after its been cleaned.
You know I counted 103 times that you said you know, you know. I might have been off you know, a bit you know, cause, you know, it's hard to catch them all ya know!
I have a dumb question, I cleaned out the slide with Hoppes #9 with a tooth brush using the advice of a fellow RUclipsr, but I saw in other videos where these say the slide should be cleaned DRY with a dry toothbrush. Now I am worried that the firing pin or the safety block will NOT work right due to the Hoppes cleaning solution, do you think this will present a problem. My firing pin might not extend into the primer enough. As a result, can I get some dented primers without firing. Any thoughts?
YOU GOT MAIL! your firearm will be ok,, I've used this cleaner for years the same way you did and I've never had any issues just dry it off and oil it up a bit
@@privilegedwhitemale306 Nah, no pro. I don't go to the gun range like I use to. But to answer your question, on the internet you get tons of info and you don't know what to believe. Cleaning the gun with Hoppes #9 is the way to go. The stuff dries up quickly and cleans real good. No blockages of any kind. I saw a video with Hickock 45 where he cleans his guns dry; with a dry toothbrush, this is where I got the idea. The majority of folks uses cleaning solution and it works great. Being new to guns, I was not sure. My gun is not a high end gun either (Taurus 9mm). Toothbrushes at Dollar Tree are cheap, it just felt strange cleaning the rest of the gun with Hoopes until I got to the firing pin (had to clean dry). I was like F it, I will clean the whole darn thing with Hoopes. Why stop. Hoppes is real good. I never used Hoppes and I thought it was like an oil, but it is not.4 years and no one responded (until today) lol
@@privilegedwhitemale306 Again, no expert, but yeah, you cannot go wrong with Hoppes 9, Stuff is easy to get (Walmart, Cabelas,) not expensive and safe to use. I bought a gun kit for 9mm and it has everything included. That Sig is a great choice. When I wrote this, I joined a local gun store and I shot almost everything behind the counter. I remember shotting the 9mm and 45 Sig. Really high quality gun. Even the clerks were telling me I could not go wrong if I got a Sig. I ended up collecting tools instead of guns, but I still love guns. I live in Chicago and they are so anti-gun here unless your a thug with my pants hanging on my butt. Than I can run around with AK47's.
i use hoppes to keep my pistols lubed, but i use heavy duty grease for my rifle. Remington 870 just give it a squirt of WD-40 every once in a while and it's good to go.
+Darren Conley my information is incorrect. you are right. rem oil is simply to 'military standards' still a good choice in my opinion. my family has used it forever. That's a fact

I could listen to you talk all day. Iv used Hoppe’s for 20 years now, although lately I’m thinking of switching to 10w30 motor oil.

You are correct.
Paint thinner, the green version, works good as a solvent as well.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
I have been trying to find the difference between the solvent and the one that says bore cleaner and see that solvent isnt even shown on the website. so it's the same thing but it is now rebranded?
Is it SYNTHETIC or NATURAL? Does it have an ODOUR? How does it compare to BORE-TECH?
The more you say you know, the more you don't know.
Whats the difference between the lubricating oil and gun oil?

He has!
So clean with the bore first, then the oil? Is this correct?
Yup
I just use whatever is around. Engine oil, 3in1, wd40 pretty much any oil is fine for me
Very helpful.
Love Hoppe's
I was thought to apply enough so you leave a finger print but not so much it runs or pools...ya know lol

I’d use Gunscrubber action cleaner!
If I heard “you know “ once I heard it over 10,000 times. I quit after 2 minutes,it was all I could take
Is hopped lube oil good 4 preventing rust

504 Dirt Dart
any screw on cap bottle can leak if not standing upright, ya know.
and all hoppe's cleaner bottles leak regardless
Lot if new gun lubes out now but #9 has been around forever and it works. I see no reason to change

I like the way you think my friend
I'm 2:27 in and I counted 45 ya knows!! 45!!!
Owen Thomas want a cookie ?
110 for the whole video!
Coat the inside of the barrel with oil prior to carrying? I thought you didn't want anything in your barrel.
Just one sentence without "you know" would be more tolerable.
bore snake soft sided cleaning kit
You know.....
I think the man was just a little nervous to share his opinion and help, you know?
You know lol
🤣
Ya know I use Hoppers gun oil on my guns. It’s really good stuff ya know. But of course ya already knew that ya know.
If I used this on the outside of my Taurus g2c will it wreck the finish of the slide
Can I leave Hoppe's 9 bore cleaner in my rifle overnight I have a lot of copper buildup
Good intro man, I have molon labe on my left arm.

Military spec fire arms aren’t high quality tight fitting performance firearms FYI
