put this on as background music whilst doing homework, didn't expect to be on the verge of tears as i write about fungi but here we are. this game broke me in the best possible way
when i started playing spiritfarer, i was absolutely love in with it, but i had had no experience of grief before. so when a great tragedy happened, i couldn't face playing any more because saying goodbye was just too painful. this video recently popped up in my recommendations, over a year later, and it inspired me to try playing again - i found it deeply soothing. though i think i cried a little harder at the everdoor than i did before. so yeah, just wanted to say thank you
I like how this version still has the feel of the ocean, just capture a different side of it. the normal version captures the open sea in the summer with the sun and the calm and simple small melancholy. this version instead has the feel of a sea port town when cloudy and cold, its very restless in a subdued, like status has infected the whole town.
Few games have touched me like Spiritfarer has, I refuse to finish the game once let alone a second time. It just makes me so emotional for these 2D characters who aren't even real and yet I feel as if I've known them my whole life. You helped create a masterpiece greater than any major development studio could ever make. I hold great sadness in my heart when the characters move on but I also feel relief that they found peace. It reminds me of what my own family members tried to do before they passed on. And I never got to see them while they lay on their beds. I never got to hold their hand and ease them off. Thank you for showing me that death is a part of life that we should all embrace, because no matter how sad it is I find peace knowing the dead no longer have to suffer along with us on this cruel world. To quote one of my favorite characters, "Live so the dead may find peace, live so that they did not perish in vain." Thank you for taking the time to read this comment and I hope that all of you have a safe and prosperous life.
I love how we can hug the characters, it always made me smile and gave my heart a moment of peace. I never got the chance to say good bye to my grandparents who loved me dearly, In this game is as if I got a second chance…
The saddest moment in this game was when Atul decided to go to the Gates alone, to not let Stella suffer for his departure. When I found his coin on the ship I cried and I cried, because he went through the hardest part in his life all alone just to not let Stella see it, to not make her suffer. Thank you for this great game and for this amazing soundtrack, Max.

So, I've been listening to this for about 2 weeks straight now when I go to sleep. I've struggled with major anxiety before going to sleep, it's when my ptsd likes to crank itself up the most.. Yet, since playing this game, and listening to its music, I've found a lovely moment to myself, to finally calm my thoughts and when I tell you.. I've fallen asleep quicker than I ever have before 😭😭❤️❤️
Slowing down music is one of my favorite things to do and I get a lot of funny looks when I tell people. But I find it similar to slowing down video and how you can appreciate things you never could see before. And hearing music in different pitches and tempos can breath new life into them if you're like me and listen to songs over and over lol
I've been listening to this many, many times over 2023 (in addition to playing the game and adoring the soundtrack) - and I just realized I never commented or even liked the video. I just want to say that the Spiritfarer soundtrack is one of the most beautiful and deeply touching soundtracks of any game I've played, ever. And I've played a lot of games, while also paying plenty attention to their music. In short, I raise my glass and my hat for you, Maxime. Much respect. ❤
I cannot tell you how many emotions I’ve felt over Spiritfarer. The music just transforms the game completely and sucks you into an emotional rollercoaster. I love this and I love the original music. My only wish is that some songs were longer cause I love listening to them so much! Besides that, love your work! ❤️⭐️
Спасибо вам за вашу музыку. Она пробуждает во мне самые светлые чувства. Всегда возвращаюсь к оригинальным трекам и этому плейлисты, когда мне плохо. Ваша музыка - лекарство.
I never beat Spiritfarer. But I always loved the game so, so much and it left an impact on me from day 1. 6 days ago my sweet dog Lily crossed over the rainbow bridge. I am struggling so hard right now. But listening to this music that I have not listened to in over a year has helped in some ways. I am determined to return to Spiritfarer now and once again begin the journey, only this time, with Lily in mind. Thank you for creating such a beautiful masterpiece of a soundtrack. It has touched more lives than you may ever know.
I got this video recommended again after a lot of time lol, it reminded me how amazing the soundtrack of the game AND the game itself is, thank you for your amazing work!
This ambient and slowed down mix of one of the greatest soundtracks of all time has been absolutely phenomenal to me over the past 2 years. I was for a long time struggling to fall asleep when I'm in bed, because I can't stop thinking about various things at night, both mundane and stressing ones, but this here makes me calm down and in the beginning heavily reminded me of the game, though not as much over time. I have listened to this countless times to relax and even meditate, and relieve mental tension both through relaxation and tears. I have cried both tears of grief and joy whilst listening to the first 5 minutes of this. One time, I was with people I loved a lot and met someone who is now very dear to me, and the night/morning after to catch my train back home, I immediately started to listen to this and was half the reason why I *sobbed* tears of joy as much as I I did. I hope I could put into words how much this simple mix of a soundtrack you already made has had such an impact on me. Thank you truly Max, you are one of the best composers of your time :)).
I struggle with insomnia but I've been sleeping to this every night for weeks. Thank you for adding such a lovely atmosphere to Spiritfarer. You really tied everything together in such a lovely way.
Thank you so much for your work. You have helped me learn to mourn, love, and cherish life altogether. I knew it before, but i know it all too well now, but the life and time we have on this world is so special and valuable. How others can mean a great deal to us and vise versa. How one life, just a single one, can impact several others. Make them see something they couldn't or just help them with their own life. All of these ideas and thoughts about life. I say them now because you are a prime example of what i just said. A person who's work impacts many others, heals them, and see something they couldn't. So i aspire to become and do just the same. To make many works of art that are not just pleasing to the eyes or ears. But to ultimately help other lives and make the world a better place for all. One step, and one life, at a time. Best work music ever. Slowed down it reminds me of some of the exploration music from Dark Souls and Hollow Knight. Really soothing vibes, but also very moody and a bit nostalgic.
This is the soundtrack to my novel that I'm writing and I love you for it. It matches the tone perfectly and isn't distracting while I write. Love this!
You are amazing. The fact that you liked and read so many commentaries is sweet, too. Your music brings warmth to my heart, I can't express the feelings in words. So I just wanted to thank you. You are amazing and so is your music
So you're designing a tape player and the first question is, is it easier to modulate the speed of the reel or design the recorder so it doesn't matter.

I absolutely love this Max, thanks for uploading. By the way, I went looking for more vocals by Maude, not realising she's a film maker really, not a professional singer, so I came across your and her exquisite short film The Botanist, and I feel my life is richer for it.
Insanely beautiful music score, every single scenario is met with a beautiful new melody that puts you right on the boat or the island with the characters. Very, very well done.

You're right - this really brings out how nicely you can hear the articulation of the guitar playing in the nighttime music, and how great the clarinets and flutes sound in various places. Do you mind me asking how you recorded the soundtrack? Good composing decisions aside, the melody parts themselves sound pretty impeccable.
@Max LL utterly beautiful stuff as always! I think it's your work on this game that ultimately has inspired me to look into shopping around for an orchestral VST/Library (And it's the time of year for good prices too 😅🙂). Given so much of this soundtrack is rooted in the piano and nylon string type sounds, would you feel it okay to disclose how you got your string/orchestral sounds on this game? It would be a blessing to know - I really love them, and your compositional chops bring so much out of them too! All the well wishes and a happy 2033 to you - and thankyou for this iteration of the soundtrack. Rest assured I'll be giving it countless spins (adding it to the sleep playlist now). Hope to hear back, thanks again 🙏🙏🙏
I don't often get questions about gear/setup/etc, if these come up more often I'll write a blog post about it. In the meantime you can write me through my website and I'll try to answer when I have some time: maxll.ca/contact You can get amazing results with anything commercially available these days, but you need to learn to "play" your software like you play real instruments and find the right balance between vsts and live performances, the human element must always be present to bring out the emotional core of the music.
@@MaxLLMusic Man, thank you so much Max! I'll hit you up through there. I read the interview with you (that appeared on Steam, I think I saw it online somewhere too, really fascinating stuff!) that detailed your approach for the games soundtrack and the history behind it and stuff, but just couldn't find any insight about how the strings came to be. I just have the stock Logic stuff and a couple of free Spitfire Labs instruments, which has gotten me somewhere, but I think there may be a greater ceiling to be reached, positively with my strings, so I'm doing my research! I'm really very happy with the writing of them, I would scarcely change the choice of notes, but I just think the timbre and characteristic of the string sounds I have available are less than what I hear elsewhere (if only to my own tastes), so to have an idea of how you went about the ones on this game, live and/or vst, is or would be a total blessing. 100% agree with the human element/performance part you mentioned! Sometimes I'll write stuff just clicking into a piano roll, but I've become an adamant fan of replacing that with me performing the part before it ever gets bounced out/much less sees the light of day. Also, I've heard even the most flatline-velocity, dull midi performances can be really enriched with a single live violin etc (perhaps multi-tracked) playing atop them to convey the illusion of a full string section in a pinch! Anyhow, really appreciate your message a lot mate, your work on this game is inspiring and you taking the time to reply here only furthers my appreciation and motivation to try and craft the best music I'm capable of myself! Thanks a ton, happy new year! I'll message you over there now 🙏🙂✨

Do you mind me asking how you recorded the soundtrack? Good composing decisions aside, the melody parts themselves sound pretty impeccable.
Like, getting reverb right is hard too, and the piano parts that have a lot of it (like 22:20) work great.
Hey Colin, I discussed some of the process on this podcast: www.wshu.org/post/max-lls-spiritfarer-soundtrack-gently-leads-souls-home
@@MaxLLMusic thanks a lot!
Thanks!
This sounds haunted 🫨😵😱
Omg the commit shower one
I'll message you over there now 🙏🙂✨
Would really like to have words with the one guy that downvoted this
