    I can’t wait to start breeding a lot of bob white quails. I love them so and there used to be thousands where I live but since they started building so many home where I live which was all woods for miles and miles they have gone basically extinct wish is a shame. There’s only a few couples I see now. I love them so much and will start breeding them and letting them go in the wild. Hopefully their population pops back

      That’s awesome! Our bobwhites ended up getting out after a tropical storm blew their door open. But they hung around for months eating in the chicken feed and walking through the garden in the mornings. They were so fun to watch! And when they flush its just beautiful.

    I’m in north central Arkansas where bobwhites are indigenous. I have raised Cortunix but seem to have so many issues and it takes an awful lot to incubate, brood, grow out and put into the aviary. They seem to have ZERO survival instincts. I know I can’t pair Cortunix and bobwhites, so I’m considering going to all BW especially since we are starting the conservation process for the wild ones on our 160 acres.

    How do you get the feathers off of the Quail Hot Water and then you just eat it immediately?

    • @BigFamilySmallFarm
      @BigFamilySmallFarm  2 года назад

      Honestly ours plucked super easy without hot water. But you could do hot water on the stove. Just don’t make it too hot. Around 155 degrees for 30 secs should be perfect.

    Numbers of Bob White quail here, in the wild, have been disappearing since the 80's.. I believe the numbers of wild quail here has been estimated to have diminished by more than 80%. Just thinking back, I recall several reasons for the dramatic loss in numbers of wild quail here. Number one.. Fire ants are just horrible here, and since quail nest on the ground, fire ants are a big issue with killing young chicks. Second, in the late 70's early 80's farming here went bust, and many land owners turned from agriculture practices to planting pine trees, and quail don't live and thrive in pine thickets. Third, in the 80's I started seeing more and more preditors like coyote, fox and bobcat here. Even animals like raccoon and opossum are a danger to quail. Forth, the wide use of pesticides. Think about it, almost every household uses some form of pesticide today.

    • @BigFamilySmallFarm
      @BigFamilySmallFarm  4 года назад +3

      Because of the potential to sell to Game Preserves along with being a meat breed. We also have the Coturnix don’t forget. So going to try them both.
