This was awesome! And Michael sure seems like a nice guy. I've never seen these 2 properties but I still remember vividly the first time I saw the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles as a kid around 1980. My parents couldn't get me off those elevators! All 12 of them run up the outside of the building. Then I saw the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco a couple of years later. I didn't see the Ren Cen in Detroit until college. But all I can say is John Portman's distinctive sense of architecture gave us some awesome buildings and some even awesomer(?) elevators!! These are on my list for sure.
Andrew, You are amazing for what you do for all of us and people out there, like Michael! I would definitely love to meet you one day and come to Roanoke, Virginia. Ever since I was a little kid watching your videos, I’ve always wanted to visit Roanoke’s parking garage elevators! I’ve had dreams all my life of me and you riding and filming elevators in Roanoke together. I don’t have autism, but I do have a visual impairment. Anyways, these are nice elevators even though they are not Otis Series 1s anymore. And they look like a lot of fun!
2:00 DieselDucy "in the building" is way better than Elvis "in the building". 3:09 What even feels funnier is when the elevator stops just before it goes through the floor such as when going from being outside to entering the atrium. If you stop the elevator just before it goes through the roof and then it starts up, you get the sense of dropping. I did this at the St Francis scenic elevators. That elevator you rode in 1993 looks the same as it did as far as the exterior appearance. The glass elevators in the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco as featured in "The Towereing Inferno" have been totally redone and no longer have even the exterior appearance as they did in the 1970s. Too bad. 6:23 Restaurant not restroom, Connor, LOL. That was cute.
Now that must of been a surprise that made the whole day epic just by the encounter itself. Very cool! Michael seems like a very cool guy.
Very nice videos I love all your videos I watch them all all the
Thank you so much 😀
