    I'm also partial to the "round AP on the wall/shelf" look, but this router seems like the perfect one to recommend to friends who don't want a sucky router, but don't want the investment of the Unifi or similar ecosystems that have popped up. Back when I had a similar Linksys router, the USB port was super convenient too for local backups in place of a NAS so I can see this fitting that exact niche between consumer and prosumer gear :)

    Synology brining the ability of VLANs to a consumer mesh network is awesome. ASUS, Netgear etc while providing great speed products, has yet to figure out how to do stable mesh-networking so I am impressed by Synologys offering.

    For those of us in Europe living in older houses with stone or brick walls, suggesting any one device will cover your entire home will heavily depend on layout. My own experience is that multiple access points works best, so long as you can wire them back to the router. Thanks for the review and I agree those antennas look awkward (at best).

    I had one customer in particular, about 15 years ago, who would've loved that ability to not only lock the kids out of certain websites, on a schedule, but also to be able to associate each kid with their devices.
    Fortunately, she was the lead partner in a law firm, so she could afford the enterprise level equipment that was the only way to really accomplish that, back then - but this would've been much easier.

    The price is actually reasonable. I expected it to be like $499. I’m also not a fan of all of those antennas, but WiFi should be pretty good for a single AP. It does look like a pretty large device.

I have a question for you and a request for new content, so first I have the RT2600ac at home and with the SRM 1.3 coming soon offeing the VLAN binding capabilities, is there any compeling reason to make the leap into the new box? As more specific content, I would like to see how to setup segmentation on a typical home network and setup VLAN's on SRM 1.3 with a sensible set of firewall rules between them.

    6:18 DS-Lite means Dual-Stack Lite. Your „public“ IP4 is „private“ and encapsulated in an v6 adress, and your provider manage this! So you cant access your own network (at home) from the public via ipv4 for vpn for example!
    It is very popular here in germany to get DS-Lite from your cable provider because of the public lack of v4 for all!

    • @Paul1337
      @Paul1337 2 года назад +1

      To be fair most of the time you can call your ISP and request a proper DualStack (IPv4+IPv6) for your connection.
      With Vodafone for example unlocking DS (In my case through their twitter support) will allow you to enable Bridge-Mode within the ISP Provider Router/Modem/Switch combo settings, which im personally using paired with a UDM-Pro setup.
      But you're right, pretty much the standard over here is DS-Lite, especially for lower bandwidth connections (< 150Mbit)

    Hey
    Thanks so much for this very informative Video! 2 Questions though:
    1. Can you connect the router to a VPN, so your whole home internet traffic is secure? If so, what VPNs can be used?
    2. As some might know, wireguard is a very simple, fast and secure VPN solution. Is it possible to run wireguard as a server or as a client on this router? If there's a option to install packages, really one should be able to potentially develop or manually install the option for wireguard as a client and perhaps even as a wireguard VPN server.....
    Many thanks!

    I might be missing something, but what’s the point of a single multi gig port, particularly if it’s used for WAN, how do you pass that bandwidth on to the rest of your wired network?

    • @rawrmcrawrawr
      @rawrmcrawrawr 2 года назад +3

      It's to pass that bandwidth to wireless clients. If you have 2 Gbps internet from your ISP, High end wifi 6 clients will be able to use some of that 1+ Gbps speed rather than be bottlenecked by the gigabit WAN port. Some reviews show that wifi 6 clients can reach around 1600 Mbps in close range to this router.

    RTX6600 I have one , 1 Issue Site to Site with another Router not RTX6600 Unable to get this to Work . Synology Claims I have to have another RTX6600 and the other side to make this work. It this really True ?
    Comment from Synology Tech Support Follows.
    Sir, you are 100% correct. Although the instructions are specific to having two or more Synology routers to create the STS VPN, there really should be a Pop-Up page notifying users that Synology's STS VPN is designed to work with Synology Routers. This will be discussed with my supervisors this afternoon. They will be able to relay ths information to our web development team as well. We intend for our documentation to be very clear to our users. If it is not then we need edit the reported documentation to be more clear for the end-users. I appreciate your feedback and welcome you to create a new support ticket if you suggestions for edits in the future.
    Kindly let me know if there is anything else I can do to help at this time.
    This sounds Crazy not to be able to have this RTX6600 unable to Tunnel to Tunnel to other Routers . Have you tried Tunnel to Tunnel on the Device and got it working ?
