This is such an established community that the cops leave it alone for the most part, but they will ruthlessly tear down and throw away encampments in other parts of the city

Skid Row in Los Angeles has been around for many decades. It used to be mainly winos but now it seems like it is primarily druggies and lots of mentally ill people who self medicate and walk around in a zombie like state.
It’s the tragedy of the human condition. A certain percentage of the population is going to fall through the safety net, hit rock bottom and end up in a place like this where their days are taken up looking for their drug of choice, getting something to eat (which doesn’t seem to be a problem) and finding a place on the street to sleep.
The sad thing is that there is realistically not much you can do for many of the people who populate skid row and therefore many of them will eventually die, either from a drug overdose (easy to do with Fentanyl) or some nasty disease because of the unsanitary conditions there.
I would like to think there there is hope for some of these people but realistically I don’t think that’s the case.
Tupac - they got money for war but can’t feed the poor, USA way to busy play a hero for the world and forget the their own people 😢
