    I got the exact same chair today from some scrapper who was rummaging through the good stuff I put out on the curb. I offered to buy it from him but he gave it to me for free. Off to ACE hardware because I called them and they had that same green webbing! I went back and bought grommets because another RUclips chair guru told me I needed them. But I guess not, so I’m returning them tomorrow. I hope my chair turns out as good as yours did. I bought a camp chair the day before yesterday but I don’t like them so it was a small miracle the scrapper came by with exactly what I wanted!

      Wow! I hope yours turns out great. I wonder how many people have just thrown them away when the straps deteriorate?

      @@stoppedsnoring the scrapper guy told me he finds chairs like this and those giant lounge chairs a lot. He said when he finds a lawn chair he’ll leave it on my front porch (like a kitty with a bird). Woo hoo! Life is good. My folks were pretty poor when I was little and my dad’s main job was going to college. I watched my mom re-webbing lawn furniture.

    Excellent job. Love that you left in the "almost" weaving screw up :) Wish you had been a bit more specific on those washers, but once you gave that final crucial tip "Make sure someone else tries it out first." I knew you were an honest youtuber.

      Ace Hardware have them for $22. Might have to order online from them then pick it up at your local store. Hope that helps.

    really nice. i like the way you chose the chair carefully and then looked after it, its difficult to do this type of economical repair these days but it seems your chair was made by hand and so could be "remade" same way. I'm going to the auto salvage yard today to see if I can get old seatbelts webbing to recycle since the original sling / webbing rotted out on my garden swing. My wife is thinking of buying a whole new swing and it just seems wrong... so your video was really helpful. thanks!

    I don't like the typical folding chairs, but this old-school ones are not great either. The best are the 'costco' aluminum folding 'director' chairs.
    You pull up the sides of the seat base edge and they 'snap' up closed, and just have fabric sewn on them. No screws to rust and comfy fabric not sharp-edge plastic.
    We used to repair the ones you showed when I was a kid 40 years ago.

      Right on!! Nice find! I see they are very expensive to buy new, so I'm keeping my eyes open too.

    I wouldn't precut them. Id weave the end through, mount it, then pull the rest tight, mount it and then cut it.

      Especially these days. I first went to ebay and the webbing material did not come up right away but the chairs. And those chairs that I remember using as a kid are now anywhere from $50-$100 a piece. My mind was blown on how much they cost so for $3 you got a steal . side not even those vinyl clear tube ones are up there in price.

    So funny I have the exact same colour beach chair. I only had to replace the white webbing. Now I wish I had not thrown out other old ones.

      know what you are saying.. those chairs are so hard to find now-a-days. I love that I can sling 4 or 5 over my arm shoulder and they are still so light to carry.

      So good so far! We use the chairs quite a lot camping or sitting on the patio, etc. I think keeping them out of sunlight when they are not being used.

    3 lawn chairs & 1 chaise lounge was found up in the attic of the garage when we were moving. Redid the 3 chairs but how do you do the chaise lounge. Can't find anything.

    • @stoppedsnoring
      @stoppedsnoring  3 года назад

      Those chaise lounge chairs are just like the others. You just need to account for the extra length when ordering the webbing. I would take one of the longer and one of the shorter straps off and measure them and times them by the number of rows to make sure you have ordered enough length of the webbing.

    Great idea. The old chair I found has a funkey fastening clip that's way too much work to get it thru the fabric and then reclip so I'm going with your chairs screw holder. Went to hardware and got a drill bit and screws/washers. Did the long pieces tonight and will finish the seat strips tomorrow. Did you shorten the new strips after comparing the lengths of the old ones due to stretching over the years. I made my long strips tight so is that a good idea to use for the seat area too? Thanks

    • @stoppedsnoring
      @stoppedsnoring  5 лет назад

      Sweet! yeah, I did base my new strips lengths on the original to get it close, but you definitely want it tight enough before screwing in by pulling on the strip around/on the chair.

      Turned out good. Had to go back to hardware for a few more screws/washers and this time got the Philips headed ones quicker assembly.

    What if I don't have green webbing? Do you think it would be OK if I used blue instead? Or maybe red? Or should I just go to the store and try to find green?

    • @stoppedsnoring
      @stoppedsnoring  6 лет назад +1

      Hah, there were a ton of different options online. I just went with green b/c I figured it was old school color scheme.
