    If he played in today's NHL - no hitting, no clutching, no stick work, no NZ Trap........he would have topped 1500 points in his career. He was super talented. Just played in the wrong era when it was a tougher, harder hitting game than it is today.

    one of the all time greats and my favorite player of all time. I wrote him a letter as a 14 year old in Washington DC. He responded with a hand-written letter and a signed rookie card. I still have it framed in my room. And I wear my Paul Kariya Anaheim Ducks captain jersey with pride, wherever I go. I'm sure people think I sometimes look stupid wearing that jersey around, that I'm now a father of two half-Japanese children myself, but I wear it to honor one of the all time greats from my life and childhood. Bless you, Paul Kariya, and thank you for all the memories and everything you did for me

  • @OneEyedKeys
    @OneEyedKeys 6 лет назад +29

    we can only imagine what he would accomplish today, now that the NHL plays a more open speed game, and not the clutch and grab, dead puck, dump-and-chase late- hitting style of his time.

      @@chubbz5150ify Agreed. His skills would transfer very well to this generation.
      Imagine Kariya feeding Auston Matthews pucks. Or Kariya and McDavid dancing around everyone. It would be absolutely devastating for the opposition.

    @nayr497 6 лет назад +4

    I think I took it for granted how excellent he was. I'm on the east coast, so don't get to see enough west coast games. Wow, those highlights are beautiful.
    As much as we project onto pro athletes who we have never met, have to say that Paul seems like a genuinely wonderful, spirited human being. Somehow hockey seems to remain just enough out of the spotlight (at least in the U.S.) that the players seem so much more grounded and genuine than other top pro athletes in other sports. Just an opinion. But the vast majority of even NHLers just seem like regular guys who happen to be extremely dedicated and skilled.
    Also, was he a captain as a freshman at Maine? That is crazy, if so.
