  • If you have a Stihl brand piece of equipment with a jammed Easystart recoil, this fix method should allow you to delete your troublesome start spring.
    *Tech Tip: Be careful when using a soldering iron. They get very hot and the process of melting/fusing plastic can release toxic fumes. Please only attempt in a well ventilated space with required protection.

    Great tip. I’ve probably replaced six or seven old springs and now my ears are broken so I’ve got a order new throw outs, mine just spins freely.
    I will definitely do this upgrade as me and the boys are used to regular pull equipment. Never should have bought a c.

      Aww man, what a hassle! You won't have to worry after doing this modification. My blower has been rock solid ever since and now I don't have to worry about that spring destroying itself.

    First of all, genius idea. I never even thought about doing this. I was just about to pull the trigger on either buying that special 0400 spool, or buying another spring. I thought about trying another idea from a different video about putting 3 washers instead of one, but I have a soldering iron and decided to give this a try first. Luckily I have a spare just in case I screwed this up.
    First try and I 'welded' the plastic together. Not the prettiest, but it works.
    One tip for others from my own experience. I didn't get the holes 100% lined up as I was soldering the 2 pieces together and the recoil was very tight. I then used a drill to even the hole out so that it spins freely.
    Thank you again for your amazing tip!!

    I wish I had watched this FIRST. It would have saved me a s-load of agony/grief. The "ezStart" crap is like the "safety" gas can - "Crap". I put a brand new spring in and the new one failed on the second pull. I am grateful I came across this,

    I treated my easy start like a normal starter for many years and finally failed. I bought a new spring and treated it right and it failed within five uses. I was going to just glue the two halves together but this seems like a not only easier but more secure method.

    • @PostRt
      @PostRt  10 месяцев назад +1

      That is exactly what happened with my machine. Plastic welding will fuse the two parts together solid and it will be stronger than adhesive. This method has worked very well for me, and my blower continues to work great.

    • @PostRt
      @PostRt  2 года назад

      @@karlbismarck9307 , from what I had read, the other part number is a traditional style rope rotor or "non-EZ Start" version. I cannot confirm as there is limited information on the part but I believe it would be no different than what I did here, fusing the parts into one.
      Hope this helps

    cool man, thanks. I have an MS 180 C, Stihl chainsaw "easy start". pull cord broke, 2nd time. i didn't think i was too hard on it. looks like it had grease or oil on it which may have contributed to its breakage. thats my excuse anyway... last replacement i accidentally made the recoil spring pop out while replacing the cord. what a pain in the ass that was to rewind. took a while before it fully seated itself again after the rewind. since then, im having the same issue you did. trying to find out why so thank you. your video saved me many hours of trying to figure it out. i thought maybe it was the spring i rewound wrong or that caused the problem and almost took it back out and rewound it again. i will try this before i order another part. you rock man! like n sub fo sho!!

      I know right? After taking these apart several times I thought, "What did I do wrong?"
      I'm glad this fix worked for you too. If you ever have a hard time starting it up there is no fear of blowing out the spring anymore while yanking the cord.
      What a relief!

    Sweet I was thinking of welding that spring

    • @PostRt
      @PostRt  Год назад

      That is a possibility, assuming your spring is not already mangled beyond repair. I think fusing the plastic hub is faster and simpler repair. You'd be accomplishing a silimiar end result by making the spring solid. Be careful welding on spring steel as it will change the temper hardness of the material and the coils will likely want to move around as it heats up. The spring would need to retain its' exact shape and spring mounting points within the housing. Otherwise, it won't fit back inside very well. If the spring is out of square it could bind the inner and outer housings. If the spring resting points are off it won't fit or there will be excessively slop between it and the catch. Just some other things to consider.

    • @PostRt
      @PostRt  2 года назад

      The easy start spring is eliminated, so yes, that feature is no longer. However, the easy start system can be problematic and I feel is unnecessary on a small piece of equipment such as this little blower. It takes minimal effort to pull start this little engine.

    • @PostRt

    That spring is supposed to be beefy, It looks like wrong material and very poor heat treatment. In other words, NOT a spring.

    • @PostRt
      @PostRt  Год назад +1

      The failed springs are OEM parts from STIHL. They are indeed "springs."
      This video is about how you can eliminate the spring as an alternative to the easy start system.
      In my opinion, the spring system is not needed on such a small piece of equipment.
