- The Cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle (Duomo di Amalfi), located in the Piazza del Duomo, is one of the main attractions of Amalfi. Piazza del Duomo dates back from 1300 and it is the main town square in Amalfi. The Cathedral of Sant’Andrea dedicated from its origins to St. Andrew the Apostle, was built starting from 987 alongside the church of the ninth century already present in this position and then enlarged at the beginning of the 13th century and reconstructed in the 19th century. The bell tower was built between the 12th and 13th centuries and decorated with marble and majolica in the Arab-Norman style. The Romanesque façade was rebuilt in 1891 in striped marble and stone and decorated with mosaics, to replace the baroque one that collapsed in 1861. The Cathedral bronze doors are cast in Constantinople in 1057 and signed by Simeon of Syria. The Monumental Complex of Amalfi Cathedral includes the Cloister of Paradise, the Basilica of the Crucifix and the Crypt of St. Andrew, where his relics are kept. The remains of St. Andrew were brought to Amalfi from Constantinople in 1206 during the Fourth Crusade by Cardinal Pietro Capuano.
The Cloister of Paradise built between 1266 and 1268 has an oriental charm with its small columns harmonized by intertwined arches.
The Basilica of the Crucifix is the oldest cathedral in the city and takes its name from an ancient wooden crucifix that stood on the high altar. The Basilica of the Crucifix, dating back to the 9th century, it is home to the Museum of Sacred Art of the Diocese of Amalfi since 1996. Here are preserved objects of the religious history dating from the 12th and 18th centuries.
The Fountain of Sant’Andrea (1760) is located right in front of Amalfi’s Duomo from the end of the 1800s when it was relocated from the foot of the steps of the Cathedral.
Amalfi is the town that gives the name to the area and it is a starting point to visit the Coast. Amalfi lies at the foot of Monte Cerreto (1,315 metres) surrounded by soaring cliffs and coastal scenery. The town is located mostly vertical between the water and the mountains and has the typical appearance of the towns in the area. Amalfi is a historical town with wonderful landmarks and a monumental Cathedral with a beautiful church tower bell visible from the water. The Cathedral of Sant’Andrea with the façade built in Romanesque style, is the main monument of Amalfi.
Set between the mountains and the sea, the Amalfi Coast is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of Italy's most memorable destinations. Located in the Campania region of Italy, the Amalfi Coast displays sky-high costal cliffs raised from the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The coast with its picturesque and multicolored seaside towns offers the traveler probably the most stunning views in Italy.

Dante video spettacolare. Hai fatto delle riprese molto belle ed accurate, sembra di essere nella Cattedrale di Amalfi e camminare insieme a te e vedere tutte quelle immagini e percorrere le navate. Molto ben strutturato con molti affreschi. La cattedrale di Sant'Andrea spettacolare l'esterno che ti fa immaginare un interno molto ricco di immagini e reliquie e affreschi. Mi è piaciuto molto vedere questo video perché io conoscevo solo la facciata che mi ricorda un poco Firenze con l'alternanza del bianco e del nero. Grazie Daniela per l'apprezzamento! È un video difficile da realizzare, ho lavorato molto per realizzarlo partendo dalle riprese dell'intero complesso che comprende la Cattedrale, la Basilica del Crocifisso, il Chiostro e la Cripta in cui si trovano le spoglie di Sant'Andrea, il santo patrono della città di Amalfi ma anche della Romania.
Bravo, hai lavorato molto ma l'importante è che sei riuscito a realizzare un video bellissimo che questa mattina sto rivedendo per quante cose belle hai mostrato. Daniela che ha appena preso il caffè dal terrazzo della cucina vedendo tutte le cose belle che mi circondano. È bello prendere un caffè in terrazza, non lontano dal mare e circondati dalle tue piante, che spero si siano riprese. Riesci a sentire le onde del mare dalla tua terrazza?
Si le piante si sono riprese bene perché ho il cosiddetto pollice verde. Per l'ascolto del mare dipende dalla forza delle onde. Adesso c'è calma piatta non ci sono onde che sbattono sulla battigia in compenso si sta benissimo in acqua. Catedrala Sf. Andrei din Amalfi este un simbol al orașului și al fostei Republici Marinare. Așezată chiar în Piața din centrul orașului (Piazza del Duomo), Catedrala păstrează trupul Sfântului Andrei în Cripta care se află sub altarul central al Catedralei. Videoclipul surprinde frumos toate componentele Complexului Catedralei.
În lunga sa istorie, Catedrala din Amalfi a adunat simboluri religioase de o mare valoare, dar cea mai mare avuție rămâne Cripta în care se află trupul Sfântului Andrei, ocrotitorul orașului Amalfi dar și al României.
Aceasta veche catedrala este un loc plin de istorie fiind legata strans de Sfantul Andrei vreme de sute de ani...
Așa este. Trupul Sfântului Andrei a fost adus de la Constantinopol la Amalfi și așezat în Catedrală în anul 1208 de cardinalul Petru din Capua.
