You know Epictetus once said "If anyone tells you that a certain person speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you but answer, "He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone." I'd like to thank everyone for giving me all that practice.

I honestly had such high expectations for this game. I have read the books and, while I do like them, I never really connected much with the characters. I somehow expected I would get more invested in them in the game. I didn't. I managed about 20 hours and the entire time it felt as if I was doing a chore. The gameplay mechanics aren't exactly great, but I could look past that for the sake of the story; the problem for me was I did not feel any connection to and investment in it. It is very well-written, there is no doubt about that, but my lack of interest + my issues with the gameplay, and lack of intriguing things to discover in the world eventually made me give up. I wanted to love this game so much, I expected I would but, in the end of the day, it just wasn't for me, despite the fact that I love story-driven RPGs. Thank you for making this video and showing us a different perspective from the mainstream!

Well i didn't see anyone who actually liked the game in this comment thread. Just want to say this is probably one of my all time favorite games of all time and i think it's incredible in nearly any side it has. The story is interesting and written very well, characters are very compelling, the gameplay feels incredibly good and the open world is full of fun and interesting details and many many very well written side quests (let's not forget the 2 DLCs that were basically the size of a new game) so like i said: i love this game. I've approached this game multiple times because there are things about it I wanna like. But especially the bit about the world being uninteresting to explore and loot being useless is what pushes me away from it, I think. Also the pointless levelling system that ensures it's nearly impossible to get a weapon that gives you an edge, because every time you find something really powerful, it's too high lvl to equip. There is so much reading on the items and skills, so many stats, and it feels like they hardly matter.

For the combat, totally not my kind of shit. I usually don't like dodge simulator and I HATE the sign system, especially that shit ass Quen, it just break the game for real. I'm not a meta type of guy but not abusing of it feels like using a sword in a gun fight. In those type of RPG games, I like when I'm able to throw the stealth card like in Assassin's Creed Odyssey when you have an assassin build. Speaking about it, Witcher 3 just looks like a way better game than AC Odyssey but... Not as fun, and that's my problem. Witcher 3 is supposed to have amazing dialogue and well written character yet I can't think of a single one that hooked me more than Alcibiade or Socrate in AC Odyssey. Also I didn't felt free and that's what I love about openworld RPG, I like to RP while playing and I couldn't do it at all with Geralt.
I understand why the game is amazing and I'm even okay to say that its a master piece but it clearly not for everyone as people tend to think, including me.
In the same genre, I totally prefered Skyrim, AC Odyssey and Ghost of Tsushima for example, which all of them felt way more free in everyway than Geralt the Witcher 3
Ps; I didn't buy Cyberpunk yet, waiting till it's fully patched and maybe a better PC to play it in full ultra. But I'm pretty sure I'll love it, since it looks like you are really free.

As someone who’s only watched the Witcher on netflix the opening scenes and tutorial did not make me want to play it more. You kind of missed the point about the theme of monsters in this world because you're right, characters who think they're doing the right thing even when others don't, is a very powerful thematic tool and that is the idea which is at the core of the Witcher universe. The importance of perspective within the Witcher universe is embodied within the backdrop of this game's story, the war between the Northerners and the Nilfgaardians. At first, it seems like the Nilfgaardians are the evil aggressors within the war while the Northerners are the underdogs simply defending their lands, and to an extent that is true. However, it quickly becomes apparent that despite the Redanians being the defenders in the war, they are not much better than the Nilfgaardians as both sides continually demonstrate their ability to commit similarly atrocious acts. Both sides believe they are in the right and both sides believe the other is in the wrong and neither’s hands are truly clean.
That trailer you brought up is further proof of this moral grayness within The Witcher universe, as Geralt says "killing monsters", but that is not a definitive statement because Geralt's monologue about lesser, greater, and middling evils proves that he never really knows whether or not he is doing the right thing. Geralt’s hesitation before he decides to intervene is one which we the player constantly experience because we are often faced with a similar choice of whether or not to intervene, what side to choose, or to recuse ourselves from the conflict altogether. We are never choosing from pure evil vs pure good but instead between two entities that both have their reasons for doing what they are doing and we the player make our decision based on what we know/believe. You ignored how at the beginning of the trailer, the soldiers said that the woman was guilty of being a cannibal and a murderer, demonstrating to us she may very well be guilty of some horrible crimes. Perhaps he only sees three soldiers beating on one woman so Geralt chooses her or perhaps he believes she is justified but this does not mean she is completely innocent, only that Geralt believes she is. This dynamic of choice is within a lot of the quests in the game as we the player never truly know if we are choosing the lesser evil until after the decision is already made. We choose based on our perceptions of right and wrong just as the other characters within the story do.

@@themilosgrozni237 Fair enough. My bad if I misunderstood. In initially playing the game, I was pretty excited about it. A lot of my interest in it was because of public reception, but I also love the fantasy setting. It felt right up my alley. I initially was pretty into it, but, after maybe 5 or so hours, well, I just lost interest. Beyond that point, I kept playing for another 10-15 hours because of the whole “Everyone likes this game so it must be good”. I even spoke to my friend who was loving it and was saying things like “Oh once you get past the first area, it gets a lot better.” So that’s where that attitude came from.
For the record, a lot of this came from open world exhaustion. I’d somewhat recently played BotW, Horizon, and MGSV, and, while I enjoyed all of those, I also got really exhausted with them (Also the freedom of BotW kinda ruined other open world games for me.). At a certain point it felt like doing things in them was like checking things of a to-do list. Like responding to emails or something. I also didn’t like (to the extent I experienced it) the story. I spaced out a lot during the dialogue. And I thought the combat was okay, but generally unenjoyable. So, since I wasn’t enjoying story, gameplay, or exploration...I wanted to quit.

As someone who personally loves the Witcher 3, I'm going to break down your points and see which ones hold water imo:
    1. Combat not very good: One of your main points is that there's no difference between heavy attack and light attacks. As someone who has just restarted playing the game, I can tell you that this is incorrect. I've fully specced into the first light attack skill, and whilst my numbers get close to heavy attack damage, they don't meet it.
Another thing you mentioned is that '[The Heavy attack] is much less likely to be interrupted.' See, I always use the heavy attack as a first attack after I've dodged an monster, because I've stupid the game long enough to know when there will be a follow up attack or not, and therefore get a bit of extra damage in. Not to mention that you can cancel heavy attacks by dodging halfway through.
And yeah, you can just use light attack, quen and a short dodge... Just like how in batman you can not do any counters, or not use any special takedowns. You can use yerdn against fast and invisible enemies, Igni against large groups, Axxi to stun someone with a shield and Aard to get some breathing room
I feel like your worst point is 'Difficukt enough to need to pay attention, but too easy to be a real challenge'. Simply because that's also how I'd describe the Arkham Games combat on normal difficulty 85% of the time, even hard sometimes. The majority of the Arkham fights are easy.
As for movement, even though I have the game on PC, I have never, ever played it with a mouse and keyboard. Because you should never, ever play a game that is third person with a mouse and keyboard, expect maybe a third person shooter. Movement on controller is great imo.
And when you bring in sunset overdrive, this is where I start to lose you. Because you've picked up a game that is sold on a large, expansive story, and now you're admitting (edgily) that you're too cool for it. The point of the Witcher is to literally add a dower and realistic tone to a whimsical genre. In fact, that's what the whole of one of the DLC's is about.
I can't speak about sunset overdrives movement, but I do like the movement of the Witcher 3. Yeah, it's a little annoying that when I run and pick something up, Geralt runs a few steps. Personally, I just take it as realism, because irl you don't come to sudden stop when running.
As for Roach. Again. Try with a controller. It's much smoother, just like any third person game. Why? Because you can tilt a stick, slightly, rather than press a button. Is it perfect, no, but it's not horrific.
I don't understand how you hate the world and say it doesn't have a variety of things to do. Going back to Arkham, does it have a variety of things to do? Or do they just boil down to 'Go place, beat up people?'
'Even if you like the game, can you ever say you're excited to find some more boring gear'. Yes. Not all the time, but most of the time. A new potion recipe, a better sword, some pelts to sell or dismante, bomb ingredients, what have you.
Don't really understand your hatred for mini maps, but okay.
I also don't understand why you take issue with the first post-cutscene talk that Geralt and Vesimar have. They are monsters, they know their monsters, other people don't know monsters but think they do, therefore Geralt knows more. It's not like Geralt has no reason not to know this knowledge, he's a Witcher.
Also, your last point makes no sense. It's okay to have an animal that eats rotting corpses to prevent epidemics even if it also kills people? What kind of broken logic is this? he says it's 'useful' and yeah, sure it is useful, if you don't mind the risk of knowing you're recommending something that has a high chance to KILL people. This is similar to 'Let's recommend smoking, because it is useful to lower people's stress levels'. or in a more literal sense 'Let's inject people with this vaccine that we know kills 1 in 20 people' Your logic is genuinely broken and you're grasping at straws.
As for your second story point... You're right, you're not responsible for the actions of other people. You can feel a little bad about it but you didn't know. I don't understand what your point is here, it just shows that there can be consequences to your actions and sometimes you don't know what they could be, but it doesn't mean you should feel bad about them.
'Lack of humanity/some people aren't just monsters' My brother in Christ, have you ever heard of war and how it turns men into dogs. Sorry to break it to you, but Return of the King is an idealistic fantasy of what war is like. Do you know how many women are raped, boys killed, girls enslaved, in TODAY'S wars where we have more humanity than ever before?! And yet you question WHY that's less in a time where there's zelatory, betrayal, monsters and a war? People aren't often trying their best in war, they're trying to survive and are driven by emotion. I will admit that this is a decent point, the idea that Geralt shouldn't really be the one who picks and decides who died, and how hey, maybe that woman who was going to be hanged was actually a monster who did all that stuff. Geralt doesn't know, but again, to use your own words, HE'S TRYING HIS BEST. More so than others. In fact, there are multiple times where he does try to stay out of things (LIKE IN THE CLIP YOU WERE SHOWING!) and is forced to defend himself. In fact I can't think of a single time wher Geralt kills someone, unprovoked, without the choice being yours (Aka Whoreson Jr for example). He mostly kills in self defense
And yeah, Geralt cursed a bit, but not overly. He doesn't say 'shit' or fuck every 5 sentences. This is straw grasping at it's finest.
As for why humans (or should I say, some humans), I don't know either. And I've got over 200 hours. But I can make an easy assumption, based on what I've seen. They are different, therefore they are bad. That's what some people think. There could actually be a real reason for this hatred, but guess what. Some people are just discriminatory.
I don't understand how you can talk positive about sunset overdrive and Arkham Games and say that there's nothing interesting about Witcher 3's world. how is the Arkham world any more interesting than the Witcher 3 one? I'll give you a clue, it's not. That's why you spend the game flying over it rather than running around it.
And yeah, I really hope that someone does make the point better than you. Because I was really onboard with this whole essay at the start when talking about combat and even movement, because I can see how these criticisms work. But all your arguments regarding the story and world really fell flat imo.
At the end of the day though, that's your opinion, and I appreciate thsy you didn't insult fans of the game, because it's easy to do. Except you basically did nothing to hide your contempt for fans of the game throughout your entire video.

It's a dark fantasy theme. Humans can and mostly will be more monstrous than the actual monsters. And it's not pretending to be morally dubious, it actually is. Humans hate elves mostly because they're largely racist. And also because of past wars and atrocities and because of various elven terrorist groups you encounter in the game and all this isn't accounting the deep lore and history of the game's universe(which you said you didn't care for getting into).
The game doesn't exactly spoonfeed these themes for you because it's utilizing a story telling tool called "being subtle".
As for the combat, it's nothing it's not meant to be. The whole point is being prepared for fights and using your witcher tools to bypass the challenges. The game has a huge variety of monster encounters that you can tackle in surprisingly different manners. If you just choose to spam buttons and quen and get bored as a result that's on you. The platforming games you usually play actually guide your hand to specifically use different methods to get passed a level. The witcher 3 introduces these methods but never actually forces you to do them. Check out the bestiary you'll know what I'm talking about. And also the combat encounters with humans is actually really well represented. You're a highly trained mutated monster hunter and geralt is even exceptional among witchers. He's a prodigy. And most humans you fight are hotheaded bandits who learned how to swing a club and hold up a shield and the gameplay reflects that pretty well. You can still use the various bombs and oils and potions in these fights should you want to. Or you could spam light attacks and quen.
Also I'm a bit confused about your critique of the open world. You mentioned all the loot is boring? You find swords, armor, runes, crafting material for crafting the aforementioned items and junk to sell for money. It's not necessarily flashy but it fits within the atmosphere of the game. Every side quest you encounter in the world is well fleshed out often with different interesting outcomes that rarely plays out the same with another. The "twist" at the end of each one is what makes them unique. There are monster contracts also. There's a good number of them and not all of them play out as you'd expect. The nuance and surprising nature of these quests keep them from getting stale. In any other game these quests would be copy and pasted all over the map and completed with little to no context.
Look i know you didn't like the game. Most probably it's just not your cup of tea and that's completely fine no one expects you to like everything. But the whole pluralistic ignorance thing you mentioned feels a bit off. It's implying the game is actually bad and most people are afraid to mention it because of all the praise surrounding it. It makes you sound like you're disliking the game mostly because of it's popularity. The game is objectively good. Not because lots of people like it or are willing to defend it. And when you deny that the game at the very least has great writing makes you sound like a contrarian at best and pretentious at worst.

I was super hyped for CyberPunk, and now I'm a little worried. THESE guys are going to make an Action Shooter? They spent 8 years on it, I certainly hope its worth the wait. Well the last thing you said is actually what makes RPG's great. And about your concern for Cyberpunk (if you still didn't buy it and trying to make a decision). The game has RPG elements only in the gameplay side but the stories are mostly linear with exception of the last mission. But those RPG elements of the gameplay is the best feature of this game i think. You can be a Samurai, a Ninja, a Hacker, an Action Hero, a Call Of Duty style shooter, a Tank, a Stealth master and so on. And the open world is amazing in both sides: appeal and design. Appeal needs no words, this game has one of the best art directions i have ever seen and in the design part it shocked me actually. After you get the double jump feature in the game you can clearly understand that almost every corner of the city (except for very long Skyscrapers and some exceptions) you can climb anywhere you want if you find a way. And even finding a way doesn't feel unnecessary because anything you do you gain xp for that specific action. BUT i think you should buy Cyberpunk (if you want to) at least a year later when all the game and immersion breaking bugs are fixed and the community has probably done lots of mods and probably the DLCs have came out. Good day!

My biggest gripe about the Witcher 3 is the core mechanics of the game itself. Movement and combat is absolutely clunky and button mashy. Mash buttons and roll around until the thing is dead, boss fights have a bit of variation but same thing more or less. Great story line and interesting places but it lacks the core necessary to back it all up. It's like this beautiful castle built on a shaky foundation.

Rest of the video makes no sense, you're not giving facts...you're just talking...I understand the need for you to be in that 8% of people that didn't like this game, this video will get you lots of views just by puting 'I hate it' in the title. The fact that you don't know when to use light vs strong attacks kinda gives me a clue of how you've played the game. Some games are not for everyone, and i'm glad this is one of those games. You should stick to the more easy ones, with a little more liniar story.

There’s something wrong with the company cdpr. Notice how both games Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 seem to have the same air of hype around them? Except with Cyberpunk their marketing plan didn’t last long after release because they did not learn from the mistakes of W3. Cyberpunk had more competition than the Witcher 3 which they did not prepare for so they were floating on a cloud where they believed they did everything right. I just refuse to believe that the ratings are so high from genuine reviews.

I've also tried it multiple times and just tried it with the next-gen patch on Seties X and still can't get into it, gave up after 10 hours again. It has good graphics and good writing, the problem is it's way too much content and everything feels cluttered. Don't even get me started on the worthless alchemy and all the cluttered ingredients. A good RPG should have good writing but it should also have a good combat system that develops and evolves overtime.
In The Witcher 3 everything you get from the beginning of the game is pretty much the combat that you will have for the entire duration of the game, it never adds more intricate layers and becomes fun, it's extremely mediocre. If you look at Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen that just came out, that is what you would call an actual fun combat system. Even is Cyberpunk 2077 combat is always evolving. Sadly we live in a day in age where most people would rather just play a book.

So I’m aware of what good games are and of my convenience to play the Classic version in any form of Star Wars, as I’m aware that the Classic is superior. It is superior.

One thing that continuously gets to me w/ TW3 is the quests that trigger without asking. Like I was on Skellige, went to Kaer Trolde to see the blacksmith b/c I wanted to sell some of the (copious amount of) gear I'd picked up, and get some upgrades for my equipped armor. Instead of that, the gate to the keep opens, and I'm dragged into the banquet hall to help choose a new king of Skellige. I can't even go back to the blacksmith because he's despawned until I finish the quest. All I wanted was to see the blacksmith. You have barely scratched the surface layer of this game, you said you have 35 hours in total, on a first playthrough it will take nearly 100 hours to complete the game (Not counting DLC). The beginning of the game is the most boring because you don't fully understand what is going on and the rules of the universe. Once you submerge yourself a bit deeper into the world of the witcher you get a new perspective and realize what a great game this really is.
My point is that you can't really say you don't like something without having really tried it, you have barely played a third of the game and you have not given yourself the opportunity to get to know (or even meet) most of the characters that make this game so enjoyable.
Give it another try, play through it all (DLC included) and try to tell me it's still a boring and shallow game.

Here's a reality check for you, some people don't want to play a 100 hour book, on top of having a trash combat system that simply isn't fun. You like it, fine, then go walk around those empty baron fields and enjoy your strong and weak attack, and don't forget to roll out of the way and spam the same few signs over and over. I think it's the opposite of what your critic tried to point out.
It's here to make you accepte that you can't know the outcome of every situations, you act based on the information you have at the time and what you think is right,
    nothing more nothing less.

because I was an absolute fan of Prince of persia I and II when I was young and they were platformer with this kind of delayed movement, while I couldn't care less about platformer like Mario : it's just a difference of expectation, but that argument made me smile.

Err the Wticher 3 is NOT an RPG Game.
It misses first, the most important feature of an RPG by definition: that the player has an option to pick a character role to be.
There is no way you cannot be anything else than Geralt here, the entire game is built on him only. There is no different past/origin/character option...but him only. This kills the RPG definition.
On top of this the game misses the options that RPG genre was built on, to provide different ways to solve situations, for example one of the most critical limitations is that the game has no stealth. There are other limitations but anyway, the game is NOT an RPG, even if it borrows other RPG mechanics.

This summarises my feelings about the game pretty well. The combat just felt of to me. The basics of it are quite similiar to Shadow of war, which I really liked, but it's just not as good. Even in shadow of war, the combat wasn't the best imo. I just don't like it when your attacks have you stepping forward as if you were doing longjumps. In the witcher 3, I never got past the quest for the baron to find his wife and daughter because god damn was it boring. It was meant to be a twist that the baron was actually the bad guy, but I saw it coming before the first cutscene even ended. And I find it hard to believe that there would be people who didn't see the twist comming. I predicted pretty much everything that quest had in it. Then the quest witch the witches is also not very intriguing. And I totally agree with the loot thing. I don't feel vey inclined to explore and do quests unless I actually get something cool and useful out of it. But in reality, the only useful thing I got from side quests was xp and I only did side quests for xp so I wouldn't be underleveled.
It's a fine enough game, but not the masterpiece it's made out to be.

This game is so overcomplicated. They make it so hard and confusing to buy and sell, craft weapons, follow quests, craft anything, it just dosent make sense and just feels like your going backwards. I did a bunch of side stuff and collected everything I saw and looted as much as I could and still ended up with like 50 bucks and not enough food for health to even beat that retarded Griffin. Also dosent matter how much I do, I cant even level up to level 3 to where I could beat that thing. Also my horse only comes when it's called 50 percent of the time, and my dude just wanders off in one direction after I stop controlling him. I could go on and on but this game is just waaaaay overly complicated.

    • @kmonku4663
      @kmonku4663 3 года назад +2

Because its not skyrim. In skyrim you were supposed to loot tons of items and sell it. In this game your main income are quests, more precisely hunting monsters and negotiating highest reward possible. And when it comes to selling swords you must take the games story to consideration. The action of the game happens during war and obviously that makes swords maces and etc so common that they are almost wortless. In the other hand food is hard to get so its supoosed to be expensive.

    • @IrunahTv
      @IrunahTv 2 года назад +1

It sounds like you're trying to fit a square in a circle. The Witcher 3 may be many things but complicated it really is not. Quite the opposite imo as quests are really straight-forward and tell you exactly what to do and where to go almost every time. And calling a huge game like this overly complicated after just the first few hours is unfair.

Got this game for cheap on sale and went into it with high expectations because for years this game has had 10/10 reviews. Put about 50 hours into this game and I can’t do it anymore. I think the main problem for me is the gameplay, the combat, something about it feels so cheap - horse riding is a pain I’d rather fast travel than ride around, don’t feel the need to explore anything. Looting feels like a chore, the music is actually okay apart from when it loops about 20 times during a conversation with an npc. And the story? I mean there were a handful of times where i was interested but for the most time…Nah. Maybe it’s because my expectations were set so high, I’ve completed great games such as God of war, The last of us 1, that my expectations have been set so high when it comes to gameplay and story. Hope that CD Projekt red can come out with some other titles because I love the fantasy, sci fi genres.

A lot of your complaints with the dialogue and decision structure is a staple of the franchise, I know that doesn’t change anything from your point. Like the concept of greater and lesser evils are used every other quest and its about how action and inaction are choices themselves. Geralt throughout the franchise has this desire to stay neutral because he feels as if he makes the wrong decisions no matter what he chooses. The game never condemns you as evil however, and if you feel bad about a choice you made then thats more of you projecting your morality onto the game rather than it passing judgement at you. As I said though its a staple of the franchise and people will either love it or hate it, I love it because it changes how I view decisions . More, how could this effect the world later, and less of, what does it mean now?

movement and combat feels good to me honestly. Maybe its just the controller feels better to play with then the mouse, maybe the vibrations make the combat feel weighted for me? Good review though, I love this game to death but its interesting to see your view. Also you have probably heard this already but were you playing on death march cause I only enjoyed combat after changing difficulty to deathmarch, it brings out your strategic brain and causes you to use all the tools given to you: bombs, oils, decoctions as well as get good at dodging cause every hit hits like a truck.
