  • The Stoa of Attalus, in the ancient Agora of Athens, was a donation by the King of Pergamon, Attalus II (159 BCE - 138 BCE) to the city of Athens. It was two-storied, of Doric order, and was 115 metres long. It had 42 rooms that were used as shops. In north and south ends, staircases led to the second floor.
    The Stoa was destroyed by the invasion of the Heruli in 267 AD. It was completely restored between 1953-1956 by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, in order to house the Museum of the Ancient Agora.

    I was there! Visited it 17 years ago.
    My dream came true. I saw the Acropolis, Agora and, above all, Olympia.

    Visited it 5 years ago. Beautiful building. Felt unreal. Can't wait to visit Athens again. Corona ruined this year s plan to go back to Greece. Maybe next year.

    Were certain types of shops on the first floor vs. the second floor? For example heavier goods on first and lighter goods more easily transported up the stairs on the second floor? Any other differences in function between the first and second floors? Many thanks for the wonderful animation!

    Nice video. I wondered what stoas were. They were malls! The Stoic philosophy supposedly originated in them.

    What a magnificent video!
    It really seems to have traveled through time and to be present in that place.
    The graphic reconstruction is simply extraordinary; and the decision to assume, mainly, a point of view at eye level makes everything extremely suggestive.
    I tell you how we say it here in Italy: «complimentissimi» (which means many, many, many compliments)!!!!

    Έχετε κάνει απίστευτη δουλειά! Οι έγκυρες αναπαραστάσεις σας προκαλούν δέος στον τηλεθεατή!
    Θα ήθελα να μου απαντήσετε σε κάποιες τεχνικές ερωτήσεις:
    Πόσο είναι το συνολικό κόστος για την δημιουργία των ψηφιακών αναπαραστάσεων; Θα ήθελα να συμβάλουμε οικονομικά οι πολίτες για την περαιτέρω δημιουργία τέτοιων βίντεο. Ποια είναι η εκτίμησης σας για το κόστος μιας αναπαράστασης πολύ υψηλής ποιότητας; Άμα, για παράδειγμα, συγκεντρώνατε κάπου στα 5 εκατομμύρια ευρώ, τι θα μπορούσατε να φτιάξετε;

    Funny how architecture is something that got 'developed' over time. Well, everything was, I guess... Today we understand that all those columns one after the other is something quite boring and uninteresting. The Romans had the arch to make it visually more engaging, the Renaissance had giant orders to break the monothony of the columns (e.g. Michelangelo's Palazzo dei Conservatori). The staircases in this building could be larger and more open, so that people could have views 'while' they were climbing it. The building would also look more interesting which more visual, less hidden staircases. I still like it, but it's interesting to learn about this developments.

    the fist mall of history?

  • @MH-ms1dg
    @MH-ms1dg 3 года назад +3

    this is like someone from the future reconstructing a modern shopping mall with reverence for the architecture, but omitting all the activity which made the mall what it was... (I admire the reconstruction, just a thought)
    on a side note, what controls or aspects of the software do you use to navigate your visual construction like this? as if it were a video game?

    • @AncientAthens3D
      @AncientAthens3D  3 года назад +1

      This is a good remark and a very to the point comparison to a mall's function. Unfortunately it would make the video much more difficult to create. Concerning the navigation, it is a simple camera animation path, mostly eye level, giving a 1st person point of view experience.

    Όταν ρεντάρεις animation με πολλές οριζόντιες και παράλληλες γραμμές όπου η κάμερα πανάρει συνέχεια να το κάνεις με περισσότερα καρέ το δευτερόλεπτο και μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια γιατί αλλιώς "σπάει" το βίντεο και είναι κακό οπτικά.
