I had never heard of JD when I heard him & his band open for Robert Plant & Alison Krauss on Monday. Halfway through his first song, I knew I was going to be a fan for life! He's got it all--great sound, great songs, great voice and a great band. As for his guitar chops, it's enough to know that RP/AK chose him to be the lead guitarist in their band! So impressed, love every song of his I've heard so far.
I never heard of you until today on Outlaw Country Radio. I am a Grandmother in Ohio who usually listens to Christian Pop, but I have been head banging to this all night!
What I LOVE about JDs band is how simple the chords are. The music....it's simple, it's rock n roll, the bass is just perfect, everything. It comes out in his voice. Truly one of the absolute best and yet underrated bands out there. I wish they would come to SE Pennsylvania!
Thank you JD and the band, please do not listen to everyone. You can not bring everyone when you create something. Just follow your own path and Rock on ........ BIG Thanks from Sweden.
Man, these guys just get better and better. Had the pleasure of seeing them in concert back in March, and even met them after the show. Supremely talented and damn nice people to be around. Going to try to make it to the release party... but if that doesn't pan out I'll still be buying the new album as soon as it's available.
They played the venue I Engineer for in Denver last weekend, J.D. and the rest offered to lend a hand getting the opening band setup because things were running a bit behind. And on top of being gentlemen, they burned the damn place down when they took the stage! More excellent humans I've not met.
I have been a fan for 2 years. I finally got to see them live at the MN state fair labor day weekend. Awesome live band. Love these guys! Real rock and roll!
If you ever get the chance to see this band play live, you MUST go! I will be at the 11/14 show in Ferndale. I've seen him several times already and will continue to do so.
This new album is fire. I’ve probably played it now over 15 times almost non-stop. And this song is standout for sure. All songs are gems on the album.
I feel you I was listening to his Christmas music didn't know anything else and all of a sudden this popped up I'm digging it I will definitely be at his show I love the fuzz 😅
Just hearing this on BBC Radio 4 (live) !!! LOVE IT. Attempted twice a Shazam to no avail .. please tend to that such that others may discover this fantastic song !! Love, Ash.
Hey Guys, I first heard about JD when he did an interview with Terry Gross of NPR's Fresh Air talking aobut his life and his brand new Christmas album which I loved. My favorite Christmas music is from Socks by JD and the boys. Absolutely fun, wistful at times extremely catchy, wormy eary (is that a word I just invented? hahaha) and that of course led me to this release which is equally brilliant. I am going to catch JD and the boys this August opening for Alison Krauss and Robert Plant in Paso Robles, CA and can't wait. Lucky Penny and JD's style in general is (at least to my ear) different. Yes, it has pop stylings that make it easy to listen to and stick in your head but, he and the boys seem to have elements of rock-a-billy, rock and roll, pop and a little je ne sais pas in that mix to keep us on our toes. The end result is something I have never really heard before. In some ways it has kind of a punk streak a la Elvis Costello because of the intelligent song writing that both artists feature. JD is still very young and I can't imagine where his artistry will take him in say 20 or 30 years but, it promises to be quite a ride so thank you JD and thanks to your great band. I wish you and the boys and all your families nothing but, happiness, health and success in all your endeavors. P.s. We are all so lucky that the teaching thing didn't work out for you man! hahaha Cheers! Peter St. John Clovis, CA
This dudes skins are tuned perfect and he gave a lot for only having one tom-tom and one floor tom. Tasty is the right word. Nice to see someone who actually knows how to play instead of someone just beating the living shit out of them.
I heard this in the bathroom at the AMC movie theater on "AMC radio". I never heard a note from "Black Keys", but I guess since so many of you say so. I do hear a lot of Josh Homme, with the xylophone sound. I had no idea he had a vintage upright bass sound, which was really big, in the mid 90's, when a lot of us old punk rockers got into 50's music my folks listened to when they were teens in the late 1950's. Maybe he needed a "radio song", I think people that like this song wouldn't really like the "rockabilly" sound, they just wouldn't get it. I remember Reverend Horton Heat playing in 1995, and some guy comes up and asks then if they are into the Stray Cats, the Rev wasn't amused. Whatever works man, this is cool, but it looks like people commenting are really divided. SO BE IT.
[Verse 1] Jokers turn to Kings and diamonds to dust I tried to beat the house but every hand was a bust Another day ends, another begins Another night sleeping on needles and pins [Chorus] I keep rolling where the bad wind blows I keep running, but the trouble follows Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck [Refrain] Bad luck Bad luck Bad luck [Verse 2] My rusty old rings are coming undone Fraying at the seams every mile that I run Another bad move, another dead stop Another wrong turn on the way to the top [Chorus] I keep rolling where the bad wind blows I keep running, but the trouble follows Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck [Refrain] Bad luck Bad luck [Verse 3] I've been playing to lose and dying to win A compassionate heart without a dollar to lend Deep in the red between the white lines It's a long road ahead and a long one behind [Chorus] I keep rolling where the bad wind blows I keep running, but the trouble follows Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck [Refrain] Bad luck Bad luck Bad luck Bad luck
Okay I've been listening to the Christmas music and taking every one of those 🤗now I hear this and my mind is just blown💥💥🤗😳🤣 and you know what I thought if he plays any other kind of music it would sound exactly like this loving it loving it you have a new fan 🙉🙈🙊 hope you can do a show in the LA area soon 🤗I would love love to check it out good work my friend good work 😅
Just heard this song on the Five Guys channel, LoL. I usually know all the stuff they play, but was intrigued with this and had to look it up. Cool song.
We can dig it.Their sound is seemingly historic, reminiscent, familiar. Although original and clean, it is just dirty enough to not be deemed copycat. There seem to be some floral notes of Jelly Roll, Robert Johnson, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Winters, and the song TOXIC by...you know who...just some thoughts from the lush lands of central ny.
"A compassionate heart, without a dollar to loan." I hear you brother, nothing but bad luck. Amen.

This music has heavy shades of ZZ Top.
Just saw RP/AK last night. SO impressed with JD, looking for more stuff now!
@@tomswenson4447 Same. Saw Plant/Krauss in Toledo, Ohio last night (6/14/24) and J.D. brought the house down with his warmup act.
I never heard of you until today on Outlaw Country Radio. I am a Grandmother in Ohio who usually listens to Christian Pop, but I have been head banging to this all night!

I love it when I find a new blues artist in this century
@Ian L12 thank you, I certainly will!
I just heard this song for the first time ever today. Love it!
I just heard it for the first time today. That main riff has a great hook. 👍
Thank you JD and the band, please do not listen to everyone. You can not bring everyone when you create something. Just follow your own path and Rock on ........
BIG Thanks from Sweden.
Different. Want to hear the whole album.
Saw these guys with Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. This song in particular caught my attention and has introduced me to a new jandra of music
I just love him and every word he sings, he's unique despite the comparisons.
Man, these guys just get better and better. Had the pleasure of seeing them in concert back in March, and even met them after the show. Supremely talented and damn nice people to be around. This pleaser of a song gives me chills. EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for a simple man like myself.
I have been a fan for 2 years. I finally got to see them live at the MN state fair labor day weekend. Awesome live band. Love these guys! Real rock and roll!

Dammit. I live right near there and just found out about him.
This new album is fire. I’ve probably played it now over 15 times almost non-stop. And this song is standout for sure. All songs are gems on the album.

I heard this song play the other day when I was shopping in Burlington, had to look this song up, it got me jamming!
the fuzz box is badass
this is the classic line up, I can just feel it happening...sweet.
It does have a Black Keys feel to it, but it's original...and I'm diggin' it. Keep doing your thing, JD!
Yes, definitely Black Keys sound, but very good. I lke it!
I wonder if they have the same producer ?
I just said the same thing to my son! Spot on comparison.

More pure class from jd
[Verse 1]
Jokers turn to Kings and diamonds to dust
I tried to beat the house but every hand was a bust
Another day ends, another begins
Another night sleeping on needles and pins
[Chorus]
I keep rolling where the bad wind blows
I keep running, but the trouble follows
Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up
This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck
[Refrain]
Bad luck
Bad luck
Bad luck
[Verse 2]
My rusty old rings are coming undone
Fraying at the seams every mile that I run
Another bad move, another dead stop
Another wrong turn on the way to the top
[Chorus]
I keep rolling where the bad wind blows
I keep running, but the trouble follows
Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up
This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck
[Refrain]
Bad luck
Bad luck
[Verse 3]
I've been playing to lose and dying to win
A compassionate heart without a dollar to lend
Deep in the red between the white lines
It's a long road ahead and a long one behind
[Chorus]
I keep rolling where the bad wind blows
I keep running, but the trouble follows
Ain't no telling where I'm gonna end up
This lucky penny's been nothing but bad luck
[Refrain]
Bad luck
Bad luck
Bad luck
Bad luck

Heard this for the first time today and it made my day!
Great song! Love that the video was filmed at RCA studio B.
Sound and Image both work splendidly ty
Love that "Spirit In The Sky" riff! Why do people always have to compare musicians to other musicians? It is what it is and it's good.
