    I can't help but think of Breaking Bad when listening to this lol. One cook (PSA) guarantees 96% purity while another cook (BGS) can get 99% or better. It may not sound like a lot, but it's tremendous.
    Honestly, I think that if I owned a PSA 10 version a card, I accept that I do not have the "best" version. Pretty darn good, but not the best.

    Completely agree with this 👍 it’s part of the reason why I think ungraded cards and PSA 9 like cards will do quite well in the future. Cheaper, can be great condition still, and very low entry into the hobby. It’ll be wild to see if ungraded modern cards are even more valuable/rare in the future because so many rare cards get put into slabs. Just a thought

    Your points on PSA not attacking this different level of collectors is valid. I do see your point, however, I still like the black label. It essentially adds more rarity to the card. You can still chase the card but chase the perfect one. What is wrong with someone wanting to collect these higher grades? I don't see it as taking advantage, but more catering toward another market. Collecting is what you make it to be, and what you want it to be. Cheers!

    PSA hasn't done it because they have the market cornered. It would infuriate all previous customers who got 10's too. Now they have to risk reviewing their graded cards for a higher tier but also potentially losing that 10 to a 9 if they get a grumpy grader the second time.

    BGS black lavel looks the best right now. I'm also a perfectionist and my favorite cards needs the best slabs. Also PSA has their own bad reputation (damaging cards, poor grading, grading based offpackage etc)

    I'll take Beckett over PSA most days of the week. Coming from Weiss schwarz, i see something in a PSA slab and wonder why not Beckett? Usually something in a PSA 10 case was because they could only get a BGS9.5 with it.
    I suppose collect what you want though. The Black Label quality is generally much higher imo. As for the price? Thats the market to decide. 1.5x to 2x a BGS10 is about right. BGS10 being a bit better than a PSA10 maybe up to 1.5x or so is about right so the Black Label being 3x a PSA 10 isnt too far off. Its all very dependent on the card too but PSA10 moonbreons arent exactly rare. A BGS10 BL is.

  • @PokeRetroFan
    @PokeRetroFan 6 месяцев назад +4

    You said the two psa 10 moonbreons were perfect. You have to realize a psa 10 is graded on a scale from 94-100 in order to get the psa 10 grade I believe. So a psa 10 in MANY cases will not be a perfect card. There are thousands or tens of thousands of psa 10 cards with flaws. I’m not saying every bgs 10 is perfect either as I’ve seen quite a few with flaws such as clearly bad centering. Remember humans are grading the cards and they make mistakes often, Beckett just does a way better job than psa overall and this is well known and appreciated by the community. I’ve cracked Beckett 8.5 and it came back a cgc pristine 10, while I cracked a Beckett 9 and it got a psa 10. Beckett is better at grading. Are black labels worth the insane premiums? No! But I think it’s one of those things where collectors are just ok with it and have accepted it as the norm. Regarding the trade you mentioned tho, only a madman would have accepted a black label moonbreon over two Psa 10 moonbreons and the other terrific slabs combined.

      Value of BGS black label Moonbreon is $5000 population 118.
      Value of the 8 cards $4300. In US dollars. And high population count of the 8 cards. Then as you commented BGS has higher standards then PSA. And if he is an actual collector, then it means alot to him. And you are just an Investor/Marketer giving his opinion. So it means more to the actual Collector. Black label is basically a perfect 10. In his mind also he can always buy another PSA 10 because there many floating around at card shows. And dealers are always willing to haggle because the dealer has to make money. But a BGS black label there are only 118. Just my humble comment and opinion.

It’s everyone’s own choice to purchase such a high quality. There is not a big difference but this is the point, this 1 % of quality difference is the point why u get a black label. This is very rare. Best looking slap and quality. BGS all days 🙏🏽

    Black labels are a super interesting piece of the market and I really enjoyed your breakdown here!
    I don’t know where I sit with them to be honest. With the Umbreon VMAX for example, there are more than 11 thousand PSA 10 examples. That’s just wild.

    Such an interesting concept. I never even thought about it but it’s true. Beckett does provide a level of objectivity considering they use tools to grade instead of eye testing like PSA, but a 6-10x markup is absurd. Why is a black label Umbreon worth 2 PSA 10s + 6 other cards? Why is a 1500$ PSA 10 a 10000$ black label? It’s an absurd mark up that when you truly break it down, makes little sense

    PSA wont make a new tier b/c they cant get away with it, it would lower every slab in the market if they did that. Look out how beckett try to change their scale. But I wonder would perfect be even worth it at all, let assume ai take over. Now human aren't doing the quality control it be ai, so almost every card could turn out to be perfect right out from the factory.

  • @AArdW01f
    @AArdW01f 5 месяцев назад

    I think people who are buying modern pokemon cards as collectors items are completely insane. The only reason they print nothing but special release charizards and eveelutions is because the people who care about this stuff are in their 30s + now.
    There is not going to be a future generation of adult nostalgic for when these were passed around on the playground.
    Charizard had value because so many people have core memories of people hustling a 1st edition base set charizard on their home town playground like it was the nuclear launch codes.
    The people who buy this stuff chase that dragon and they engage in a gamblers fallacy level of self talk about how buying new cards that are designed to prey on them is a logical course of investing action.
    Its not.
    BGS black being the most stringent standard is just an accessory to this logic (a small group of people convincing themselves that chasing that dragon of collector prestige over the horizon is worth the value they are sinking into it).
    Nice video

    People that pay 200-400% more for a card graded by a company that uses human grading just as PSA does are being scammed. If I was a betting man if PSA took the same route and started putting "sub grades" on their labels people would want a larger premium on 10''s. And save your nonsense about "well Beckett is way more strict on grading" blah blah...ITS A HUMAN GRADING IT! The room for error is still there regardless of the company name on the slab, you are paying more for a Beckett black label over PSA 10 just because of marketing and the bs you read on how they grade cards on their website.

    • @hillboy1611
      @hillboy1611 6 месяцев назад +1

      Of course they will be practically the same cards. They made some pseudo rarity above and so that's even more rare and therefore more expensive. Honestly genius marketing move, they're like how much can we squeeze out of this Lemon😂.
      I agree, at some point it makes no sense cause the room for graded by humans will always be there. Like one person will award a black label, another won't. I hardly believe if 10 people grade the same cards surface, that all will give 9.5 and noone a 9 or 10. Even tough I don't know their grading system that well. Who even does of the consumers? Probably 1%.
      If someone introduced machine Grafing automated by a computer, this would actually make sense and be a sensible next step. Then you know it's actually a fair and even assesement each time, and the premium is 99% warranted, cause a machine will be more exact. But we don't have this yet.

      @@hillboy1611 Actually we do have automated grading by a computer. Check out the company "TAG". They just started grading Pokemon cards back in November. I do not agree when you say BGS is a great grading company. To me they are the exact opposite - the ones with no ethics, focusing on making money over quality and their black label is the representation of that. I have a screenshot i can share proving they are manipulating the BL market heavily.
    I have also submitted 3x the same card with different grading tiers and they came with 3 different sub grades each times (I scan my cards before any submission to prove the state of it, in case of any damage). They are so inconsistent! I will never grade with them again and sold all my bgs slabs even the BL one.
    Regarding the crazy deal, I would have taken all those slabs for that BL all day (much more liquid and stronger investment)

      @@phillips.collectibles of course : I like your other analysis videos.
      You know that with BGS you cannot have sequential as your cards are being dispatched for the grading process in order to have a fair grade (that’s their argument). But when digging in the pop report, I found out that there were BL cards with sequential numbers up to 16 in a row (sometimes 3, 5 …) : which 1 is not possible as explained and 2 even if it was an order there is 0% chance to get BL 16 times or whatever number in a row. That’s why I say it is rigged.
