  • The town on a large tombolo and a spectacular sandbar / Walk around the island village East China Sea Kamikoshikishima (Kagoshima Prefecture)
    Kamikoshiki Island
It is located approximately 26km west of the mouth of the Kawauchi River, on the north side of the Koshikishima Islands in the East China Sea. The east side of the watershed is the former village of Sato, and the west side is the former Kamikoshiki village. The fisheries industry is centered around puri and millet sandfish fishing. While working to improve its infrastructure from a fishing industry that involves catching fish to one that cultivates it, the island is also focusing on tourism as an island where you can enjoy marine sports such as board sailing and diving. In December 2001, the surrounding coastline of the island was selected as one of Japan's 500 Important Wetlands, and in March 2001, the island was selected as one of Japan's 500 important wetlands. On the 16th, Koshikijima was designated as a national park. It is connected to Nakakoshiki Island on the south side by Koshiki Daimyojin Bridge and Kanoko Ohashi Bridge, and in 2020, Koshiki Ohashi Bridge spanning Imuta Seto, which separates it from Shimokoshiki Island, was completed, making the entire island one.
    village
A high-speed boat makes two round trips and a ferry makes two round trips from Kushikino to Koshikishima, and the order of stops at each port differs depending on the flight. The first flight in the morning is a high-speed boat that takes 50 minutes straight to Kamishiro-ri. The village is located on the north side of Kamikoshiki Island, and consists of a sand bar called the ``Tombolo topography'' where the two islands (Kamikoshiki Island) and Tomiyama are connected by a sand bar created by the coastal current, and the base of the sand bar. There is Satominato in the middle of both. The base of the sandbar is known as the ruins of samurai residences, and the stone walls of the village at the foot of the area can be seen. Old houses like those in Chiran are not often seen, but for a reason unique to the island, they do not need to be modified to accommodate cars, so they remain in their original form.
    west beach
The sandbar area is a flat village with the sea on both sides, and the west side is called the Nishinohama district. In ``Japanese Townscapes'', there is an article titled ``Shinogoya on Koshikijima'' that introduces independent pillared straw-roofed huts that line the beach. This type of case where people build huts together at a location far from their homes can be seen in places like Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is said to be for fire prevention reasons. However, not a single Shinogoya remained in Nishinohama. In ``Japanese Townscapes,'' it was written that it was planned to be restored and utilized as part of the Nishinohama Green Park Plan, but although the green park was maintained, Shinogoya appears to have disappeared. The village of Nishinohama receives strong winds from the sea, so it is protected by sand control forests and stone walls along the coastline. The wind blows through the streets leading to the coast, so houses facing the street have their walls raised to the eaves. It is designed to be integrated.
