“But I’m training hard to be one…” Amity felt a sliver of desperate hope rise up in her chest, surrounded by doubt and the need to curtail expectation. Turning, she saw a woman in strange clothes, but with the chocolate eyes and hair of the girl she loved. “I promised I’d come back,” the woman whispered, and in her smile Amity saw *her.* Dashing forward, she tripped on a stone and lunged, catching Luz Noceda around the middle in a hug she never wanted to let go of. A pair of strong arms wrapped around her, one of the hands finding the back of hers. A little pink ring appeared around their wrists, and faded away. “The oath is unbound,” whispered Amity, “you came back.” Whimpering in joy, Amity pulled back to get into a proper hug and back onto her feet, finding she had to look slightly down to see Luz’ eyes now. “Does this mean I can come home?” Luz breathed, brushing her fingers along Amity’s longer hair. “You’re not mine to keep,” Amity admitted, thinking of all the people who would want to see Luz, “But I doubt that’ll stop you.” Luz wrapped her arms over Amity’s shoulders, interlacing her fingers a little behind her neck. Bringing her face closer, she smiled and let her eyes close. “You’re right. It won’t.”
