Wow this is amazing timing as I just got engaged over the weekend and was wondering about throwing a party! Thanks Jamie! (Edit: Also thank you to everyone for your congratulations, it warms my heart! Wishing you guys the best ♥️)
Defintely recommend doing one! We did one for ours (we hosted) and it was a great practice for the main event. Held it at a restaurant during October in a small town famous for being haunted. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it really helped me realize what my strengths and weaknesses are, and what I will need help with. So glad I had the chance to figure that stuff out well before the wedding. Also congratulations! :)
We planned our own engagement party, but with us being musicians, we opted to put on a concert for everyone instead of a traditional party. That way, all the tips we get go toward the wedding. 😎

Just wanted to let you know how sweet and supportive you are Jamie! I recently came across your channel and I've been binging your videos every day for about a week :) absolutely love your content, your energy and the kindness you radiate.
One of my good friends had an engagement party awhile after they had been engaged with just the wedding party. It was a great chance to meet the grooms side of the party and who we’d be spending time with throughout the wedding planning process!!
I am beyond thankful that I got engaged prequarantine. Our friends all met up at the local brewery we went to on our first date and celebrated together💍😁❤
I just got engaged 8.14.2020 after almost 11 years together. These videos have been so helpful. It feels very overwhelming sometimes with all the planning that needs to be done. Thank you Jamie!
For my engagement party, I ended up wearing the colour that my bridesmaids will wear and the dress was in the style that my wedding dress is (short version of course). It was so fun to wear on the day
Last year I went to an engagement party for one of my best friends. It was right after the proposal and the groom invited me through facebook messenger! It was hosted at a local coffee shop and was a very sweet time celebrating with the two of them and about 15 other people!
I just got engaged on july 3rd so this is awesome timing! I'm trying to figure out how to navigate wedding stuff amid Covid.. I've been married once before and it was a quick courthouse thing so my fiance and I want to get everything just right ^.^ we are planning for 2022 ❤
Can I just tell everyone here DO NOT HAVE A SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT PARTY. I got surprised for mine and 1) i wasn't even warned to bring a nice outfit 2) There were loads of people invited who I didn't know and/or liked 3) It was open bar and everyone got hammered and humiliated me. I always thought my engagement party would be an engagement announcement. Invite close friends and family to a nice restaurant (say it's just them coming) and put sealed envelopes on the table. At some point in the night I ask them to open the envelopes and they're wedding invites.
Thank you for making this video. I felt like I needed to make something formal. When all I really want to do is a pool engagement parry with pizza and burger and drink ❤️I really need this video thank you so much
A little late for an engagement party (got engaged Memorial weekend, and here we are at the 4th of July), but I found this video as well as your whole channel so helpful for my own wedding planning. I can't wait to see what else you have coming soon!
Congratulations!!! If it makes you feel better, I got engaged in April 2019 and we still haven’t done an engagement party because of various scheduling conflicts and because I want to wait until my brother and sister in law (who is also my MOH) are able to visit from Hong Kong to attend. The best thing about being engaged is that the engagement and planning process is about the couple and the family coming together, not about doing things in a certain order or time.
We had our engagement party about 2 months after engaged. It was hosted by my fiancé/ husband’s parents at their house. Ours was a brunch style. We only had us, our parents, siblings, grandparents, and our bridal party but they didn’t know! We used our engagement party to ask our friends/ siblings to be in our bridal party. I gave my girls navy blue toms (my mother-in-law painted white flowers on them after we made sure they fit) and my fiancé gave his boys small coolers with their names on them filled with their favorite beers. In their bags, everyone got a card asking them to be a bridesmaid/ groomsmen/ maid of honor/ best man.
Just found you girl and let me tel you I am going down the rabbit hole today😂… thank you for all of your great info and recommendations they truly are a God send 🙏🏻🥰😘..
My engagement party happened like six months later, and it was mixed with a Christmas party. I only invited a handful of people that aren’t attending our wedding. I actually put them on the waiting back up list.
"Sometimes it's super necessary..." I laughed so hard! Got engaged in January & were planning on having a party in March. We're maaaybe going to have a party in October & are getting married a year from September, rather than this September.
We hosted our own engagement but our families chipped it. We sent our emails out using Paperless Post, which was a nice middle ground. It was held at a function centre were we had food catered that we warmed up. Our families supplied dessert and I made a cake. I also work black!
We aren’t having an engagement party but it actually seems like the perfect event to invite people you wish to celebrate your engagement with that you won’t necessarily have present at the wedding. I’ve never heard of anyone assuming that being invited to an engagement party was a gateway to being invited to the wedding.
Yay excited for another video! we didn't have an engagement party (we got engaged last October) there were so many holiday parties and I was busy with my grad program but I might be having a bridal shower hope you make a video about that :)
Once things start calming down after the move, of at least when you run out of pre-recorded videos, you should do one on how to set up a setup/tear down crew. You talk about it a lot, but logistically, which vendors would typically help, with what, and do you have to hire outside help? I’m still left with so many questions on how to do this
Hey Rachel, It really depends on the scope of work. Set up would typically involve your florist, rentals (tables, cutlery), dance floor, catering, cake, entertainment (dis/live band), videographer and photographer. For breakdown it would be just about every vendor coming back after the wedding is done to collect their belongings. I.e. the florist it would be their vases. I hope this helps!
Not JESS A Planner Thank you, it does and it doesn’t. What about DIY? Would that need to be friends and family? What vendors would even be worth considering to help coordinate that piece?
@@rachelechols5041 For DIY, if you have friends/family members willing to volunteer their time (during set up and breakdown) have a list of what items go where. Jamie can you talk about surprise weddings? I know people who have invited people to their engagement party and then surprised their guests by telling them it’s their wedding. Thoughts on this topic and tips for how to pull it off?
I feel like planning an engagement party for the same day as the proposal could go poorly. Like what if the person says no? 😬 This could just be me with all of my awkwardness and anxiety, but day-of engagement parties and massively public proposals stress me out.
Many couples discuss marriage in advance, it's only the when and how of the proposal that's a surprise, so in that case having it on the day is ok (personally, I feel like u have to have discussed marriage beforehand, I thought everyone did that. Just my personal opinion obviously idc what other ppl do)
Sandy Christine fair point. I’ve seen lots of failed proposals online, and I get really bad secondhand embarrassment which triggers my anxiety, so that all makes the whole idea a little frightening. I do hope that people discuss marriage beforehand, especially with public proposals, but I know couples who didn’t and just spontaneously got engaged.
proposals should be a surprise but the engagement absolutely should not be. couples should have thoroughly discussed marriage and their expectations/desires, so that popping the question is just formally acknowledging what they've already talked about
We are having our engagement party 10 months after we got engaged!! We got engaged in October 2020 but lockdown finishes July 2021... better late than never I guess! 😆🤷♀️
Could you possibly do a video for a wedding shower? Trying to plan a backyard drive by wedding shower because of the pandemic but wanted to know more of the how to do’s especially during a pandemic.
I was thinking on valentine's day make dinner and dessert for my boy's parents then tell em then next week tell my parents and do and make the same thing then just have a mini friend party at a park get all our frinds together
Oh wow. I didn't know it was this big of a thing to throw engagement parties in the US. I can't remember a single engagement party in Brazil that I've been to. Usually just pics or videos of the proposal and the wedding invitation are enough.
Those are the exact arrangements that I’m considering from something borrowed blooms! It pains me to see thousands of dollars of flowers thrown away at the end of a wedding.
Do you think waiting awhile after getting engaged (closure to wedding) is ok to still have an engagement party? Due to covid we couldn’t have one right after but would still like to celebrate our engagement with everyone eventually.
Now I want an engagement party and we are married now😂 We never had one cause most of my husbands family either lived 8 hours away in Port Lincoln or lived in Queensland. So we didn’t see the point. 😩
What is the point of an engagement party? Is is like just getting together to eat and celebrate and talking and stuff? Do ppl play games and stuff? I never heard of this before 😯❣️
We go engaged in December and wanted to do a party in March, but carona happened. Not getting majored until next July, when would be a good time to have an engagement party? Especially now?
I’m from Poland and my fiancé is from the US I live in the UK and that’s where we plan to live and we’re pretty sure our wedding will be in Poland bc it works out sooooo much cheaper but I’m so nervous about his family not being able to get there 😫 I’m thinking maybe we should do an engagement party in the US and invite all his friend and family that we want to invite that way if some can’t make it they still celebrated with us in some way. Does that sound like a decent idea I’m really stressing 😥
Did you go to college? I’m about to be a senior and wedding planning is something that I think would be really cool to do. I think I’m going to do esthetics but I also really like planning and wedding things so. I’m just looking for some info about everything.
we're getting engaged soon and ive always wanted an engagement party with all our college friends at one of those speakeasy jazz bars (we're swing dancers so we love early 20th century stuff!). but with this pandemic and closed bars looking like reality for the rest of the year idk if that will ever happen :(
In need of help! Im in Australia and I’m getting married in 8 weeks. They have announced that you cannot mingle or dance at weddings. If this doesn’t change do you or anyone have any suggestions for entertaining guests! 💕
@jamie this comment was a bit too critical. We know you’re busting your butt to give us consistent content. Don’t feel insecure about your content it’s great and we love you! ❤️
I want to have an engagement party but I don’t know how. My parents are not happy with my engagement so they won’t host or come. I live in an apartment so it’s too small my in-laws also live in an apartment. I don’t wanna spend money on a venue and definitely can’t afford a restaurant. So I wonder if it’s even worth it for me and that makes me sad.
Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear this. I would suggest looking at Airbnbs that allow events/gatherings. Peerspace or Giggster are also great to find places and sometimes you can find some hidden gems that won't break the bank.
Not that I've heard of? IME, engagement parties are literally an excuse to get together, congratulate the engaged couple, admire the ring, and talk all things wedding. Guests aren't obligated to bring anything but themselves, and their well wishes. But then again, I could be wrong as I am no wedding planner?
Jaime, I love and appreciate your videos, I really do. But, I recall a video some time ago when you talked about how you didn't like artificial flowers - but now you're allowing them to sponsor your video? What changed? Did you opinion change on fake flowers? Or, does it depend on the event? I promise, I don't mean for this to be a hate comment (It's not 🧡). You're one of my favorite RUclipsrs and I find your content both entertaining and informational. I'm just genuinely wondering if your opinion of fake flowers has actually changed, or what's going on. Thanks!
What I recall from other videos is that she wanted to break the belief that fake flowers are cheaper than real ones. The cheaper ones look really fake but the beautiful fake ones are just as expensive or maybe more than real ones.

@@sandhyachristine7173 This.
Always surprises me when a proposal "fails".
Like did y'all never discuss this beforehand LOL
proposals should be a surprise but the engagement absolutely should not be. couples should have thoroughly discussed marriage and their expectations/desires, so that popping the question is just formally acknowledging what they've already talked about
can you do a video on the steps to postponeing your wedding!? 😔🤞
Greate video but I would liked you to start with a Why. Why have an engagement party? Why do people have them?
We are having our engagement party 10 months after we got engaged!! We got engaged in October 2020 but lockdown finishes July 2021... better late than never I guess! 😆🤷♀️
Could you possibly do a video for a wedding shower? Trying to plan a backyard drive by wedding shower because of the pandemic but wanted to know more of the how to do’s especially during a pandemic.
Check out our new custom garlands... would be great to dress up the backyard or front porch for a drive by shower!
I was thinking on valentine's day make dinner and dessert for my boy's parents then tell em then next week tell my parents and do and make the same thing then just have a mini friend party at a park get all our frinds together
This has now made me want to buy a white pantsuit
Hello Jamie. Can you do a video on flower girls. Or having odd bridal party. Erin
Oh wow. I didn't know it was this big of a thing to throw engagement parties in the US. I can't remember a single engagement party in Brazil that I've been to. Usually just pics or videos of the proposal and the wedding invitation are enough.
just fyi, the something borrowed blooms link isn't in the description!
She fixed it :)
I love how you say person who does the proposal and not groom! We love inclusivity
Welcome to Texas!!!
Those are the exact arrangements that I’m considering from something borrowed blooms! It pains me to see thousands of dollars of flowers thrown away at the end of a wedding.
Yay! We can't wait to be part of your special day!
I was thinking of having a big engagement party, getting married at the courthouse then having a nice honeymoon. Probably would be cheaper! 🥰
Do you think waiting awhile after getting engaged (closure to wedding) is ok to still have an engagement party? Due to covid we couldn’t have one right after but would still like to celebrate our engagement with everyone eventually.
TOTALLY!
YES! 😊😊😊
Now I want an engagement party and we are married now😂
We never had one cause most of my husbands family either lived 8 hours away in Port Lincoln or lived in Queensland. So we didn’t see the point. 😩
Lol, what about a vow renewal?
Not JESS A Planner i only got married the 1/feb/2020. But one day. Lol
Can you wear a crown for your engagement ceremony?
Well the floral website wasn’t linked!!

It's cool but a bit weird considering your other videos about faux flowers
@jamie this comment was a bit too critical. We know you’re busting your butt to give us consistent content. Don’t feel insecure about your content it’s great and we love you! ❤️
I always thought the "engagement party" right after the proposal was a "she said yes" party. I thought they were two different things. Im so dumb lol
I plan on going to Costco for food lol
Unfortunately we can't have any parties right now 😭😭😭😭😭
But thanks for the tips!
Planning my wedding has made me hate my wedding I’m over it I’m doing it all on my own. What is your advice?
Oh no! We can help make flowers stress-free
Something Borrowed Blooms are y’all in the Galveston TX area
@@redpanda_ann We are located in Lafayette, LA but would be more than happy to ship your blooms right to you!
Are guests supposed to bring a gift or money envelope to an engagement party?
Not that I've heard of?
IME, engagement parties are literally an excuse to get together, congratulate the engaged couple, admire the ring, and talk all things wedding.
Guests aren't obligated to bring anything but themselves, and their well wishes.
But then again, I could be wrong as I am no wedding planner?
@M C thank you
Jaime, I love and appreciate your videos, I really do.
@@JamieWolfer thanks for your reply and understanding that I had zero intention to be offensive or combative! 🙂
Y’all I didn’t even know engagement parties were a thing
First!!!
Hi Jamie. Is there an email addresses that I can contact you through please? I have a few questions I would like to run by you!
