Still waiting to see someone make a video with bats made of exotic hardwoods. I don’t think Ash and Maple are the best, they’re just the best for production at scale. How sweet would it be to see bats made of Purple Heart, Cocobolo, Rosewood, etc. There are tons of wood turning channels on RUclips that I’m sure would love the opportunity to make such unique bats and partner with you guys on a video.
I was thinking they could turn the stock bat until the barrel was about fungo thickness, and glue on a hollow purpleheart cover-- but I can't even imagine the amount of work that would go into it.
Neat idea. Based on the Janka hardness test, which measures the force required to embed a 0.444-inch steel ball into the wood to half its diameter, the typical hardness of a baseball bat is about 5500 to 6500 N. A bat made out of Australian Buloke (Allocasuarina luehmannii) would have a hardness of 22500 N. If you don't understand the units, at least understand that is nearly 3.5 times harder than the hardest standard bat!
A pro player on average orders 120 bats a season. Now multiply that by a couple thousand for the whole nation. Can that exotic forest that only grows every 50 years or longer handle that? Before you say “they’re stronger they’ll last” remember metal is stronger than wood and even those bats break after repeated use.
@@cantprocess You must have missed this part "I don’t think Ash and Maple are the best, they’re just the best for production at scale." The idea was to make one bat of rare wood types for a testing video, not thousands for MLB players.
Eric’s first swing with the concrete broke away all the unnecessary excess concrete, and left basically what Tosh had on his bat. all thats left is to sand the concrete so its smooth and now thats gonna hit NUKES
The old days, Major leaguers used to score/key up their bats to harden the bat. Not really surprised that Eric's bat did better. The concrete harden inside the scored grooves of his bat. It is so much fun watching these guys make content. A little side note with Cole. The improvement for Cole's performance is that he was able to generate a faster bat swing since he lighten up his bat. He does not have to struggle with the forces of inertia as much if he was still using a stock bat. Bat speed typically improves EV.
Scoring up wood does not make it harder the scoring of the bats in the old days was about causing more friction on the surface of the bat causing crazy spin and also better grip if done on the handle. There are ways to harden wood none involve scoring it almost all are about pulling more moisture out or applying a type of coating to it's surface or a coating that can penetrate the wood. And the only thing about the concrete that might have helped is it being able to pull more moisture out of the bat hardening it up. The concrete in the scored grooves was nonexistent cause it turned to dust. And also his increased EV could easily be because he was just hitting better that day or swinging harder.
Sadly.. I agree. Last one where they were just having to keep away from cops because of street racing. Don’t care for all the crazy big stunts. Liked the street racing

I'll say maybe Fast & Furious 4 was the last okay movie of the franchise. Fast Five is cool because of the nostalgia with everyone coming together from all aspects of the franchise, but anything after is just horrible
Lots of people talking about Eric's bat, but can we talk about how Cole tried to drill into solid maple with a giant drill bit on a little electric drill without drilling any pilot holes first? (and that he didn't think foam would expand; "f*ck the instructions" I guess)
I'm from Seattle and go to M's games often (even though they are the worst professional team for the last 20+ years) so, I think it's really cool to see you guys batting with T-Mobil park on the hit track!!!

Eric next time you cork a bat, drill into the center of the bat like cole but instead of foam you can put concrete into the center and then put caulk over the top to protect the concrete. 👍
We did this, a colleague used fiberglass moldable soccer shin guards. He had an exit velocity avg over 110mph up from 92mph reg avg (all of us were college players… once upon a time).
@Eric, you should have gotten some sand paper for roughing up your bat instead of rubbing it on concrete my boy! Just an idea for future ideas just in case. 👍

Just so that you guys know in the future, you drill in with a smaller bit and go bigger and bigger!! Also that's a concrete bit but idk how much it effects it
Easy solution to making it heavier. Drill out middle, add concrete, seal end. Then it doesn’t ruin your hitting surface and won’t break apart when used.
Maybe use some epoxy and dig out a few slugs from some 12ga shotty shells. Gunpowder in the mix is optional, the best option in fact I would imagine. Make it happen fellas!!
