What viewers have to understand is that the PM has shown courage because the Tejas is a single engine aircraft. The last time a politician flew in a single engine jet was 5 decades ago in MiG 21 (in the US). Truly a significant show of trust in Make in India.
That engine is American not indigenous so why are you so proud?

Lack of expertise in developing the technologies locally.
Even F-35 is not 100% indigenous , many of it’s part were produced by partnered countries..it doesn’t mean that USA can’t develop those parts.. Since it’s join fighter program some of the parts were developed by partnered countries.
Keeping that in mind Hal has 60% of the components locally designed and 100% assembled up here, So definitely not sure about your perspective by for me and many it's a Proud moment ❤️
