One of my tactics as a Japanese fighter is to use the fact that my planes have terrible energy retention to my advantage. If I have someone on my tail, I'll immediately climb up, while cutting off my engines. This reduces my speed to basically nothing. My opponent usually flies past me if he doesn't ram me or get a lucky shot first. And when he does zoom past me, I'll turn my engine back on, and start firing. So, it's a convoluted way of Top-gunning it, if you don't have air brakes.
if you play arcade mode you can use your flaps to slow down even more, i set them to landing mode by pressing the landing gear key and then flaps key. on american planes it's so efficient that i can dive without gaining speed
Great guide. However with the current state of WarThunder, the matchmaking system is really cruel. You can do your best with the corkscrews and the stall baiting, but when you're matched and your best plane is a P40-E and there are enemies flying around with P-63's, it's really down-putting. Not much you can do, except hope the pilot is a complete moron.
Well the only way i succeed at getting enemies of my tail is going 0% throttle and stalling, they usually have no idea what to do as they're speeding under you.

For me, when I'm in the game and being enemy chasing. I will look around to find trees, if there a tree I will go through them (not crashing) and my enemy will crash
The most satisfying overshoot I had was with a fellow Bf109, I had an E3 variant. It all started with me role playing as the sneaky boy Erich Hartmann diving from 3k to some poor dive bomber at 800m. Long story short, I had a Bf109 on my tail before I can click the mouse so I used that speed I had left to try to outrun him/her. Sadly I can't and with the E model's wing loading It was frustrating. However, it seemed that he was too. After racking all sorts of maneuvers I went all in after noticing that he's always at 300-400m by diving and going ballistic. He followed and I took a high G turn with what I can pull off before killing the throttle. And to my surprise it worked. He over shot under my plane at just 100-200m above ground that I had the instinct to shoot. I missed and had to wait for another 20 seconds before knocking him out of the sky. Most satisfying gameplay I had in RB but other than that experience, it kinda sucks.
Thanks a lot man, this has really helped me with air to air combat against my enemies in War Thunder and now I am able to dodge from enemy fire when I am being attacked by hostile aircraft.
Definitely really smart moves, what makes them so effective though is that you are good at watching your enemies movements - something I have a really hard time doing. being able to look back while controlling your plane at the same time puts all the controls in reverse, aka super confusing.. Skills man!
in WT after getting a FW190 with 2x 30mm cannons, I got a BF109 G10 with 3x 30mm cannon and 2x 12mm guns.... wow it kills b17's in 2 seconds and it loves 20000+ ft . I'd recommend this fighter over anything else on the German side
I know wiggling like that in a realistic battle just means fish in a barrel. Also his climbing doesn't work in all planes either. Get off Arcade and play with the big boys.

The spazz is easily countered. The player tends to generally head in one direction, so rather than try to follow the plane, shot down a straight alley and they'll wander in/out of your fire. Great vid tho!
+Divad Mlap Was also disappointed that these were tips in AB, especially the cover thing doesnt work because in RB you will be fighting at a 3 km altitude...

at 6:48 I do that maneuver sometimes and most of the time it works. trottle down to 0% flaps down completely, nose up a little and let your enemie go in front. trottle to max, flaps up, aim and kill
@@TheStig_TG Excalty it depends on what plane you use against another plus you kind of have to know the other planes specs. Im a veteran with American planes there great for boom and zooming but only try manuvers against someone using the same plane as you. Every other nation out turns/ out manuvers your fighters naturally. Do not use manuvers against something that's better at turning then you. I'm literally close to spading the entire American Aviation tree. Jets are a pain to grind. Its cringey seeing these videos on how so many people are talking about learning manuvers when 100% of the battles are about learning the planes your going against and knowing there weaknesses and strengths. Just doing a manuver with any plane isn't going to cut it. Know the plane your going against figure out if he goes faster than you and stores more energy and if his plane is great at that but sucks at turn fighting. If someone else's plane is great at turn fighting your not going to out manuver him. All in all manuvers are very situational depending on the planes involved and banking on enemies being stupid or making mistakes. I'm tired of videos never sharing that fact.
Yeah none of these techniques work in American planes....every faction on the battlefield can out turn, out climb, and outgun you. Even when playing boom and zoom 99% of the time i get taken out because Russian and German planes climb faster and have higher top speeds, on top of better turn times.... This game needs a major balance overhaul.
Adeum Deus They have the planes set to what people actually flew. US are known for bombers and as in the game US bombers OP. The other nations have there own perks as well. Japanese TnB/BnZ. Russia BnZ/SnF occasionally Turn and Brun. British (mainly the spits) TnB. Germany BnZ/SnF
+kavi chauhan YAK 9K. The yak 9T is better though and it also have an amazing cannon. a little smaller but much less recoil and the plane overall performs better so if you want to try it out i suggest trying the 9T. It's an absolute beast in arcade mode. 9T has 37mm and 9K has 45mm.
Yaks are death with wings. The 9T has more artillery than some tanks, and they're fast. Russia is the most forgiving nation to play. I'd say Japan takes the most skill.
I play as Japan and USA, mostly. Easiest nation, my ass. Japan's planes are made of tin foil and balsa wood. I haven't touched Germany, though. Nothing about those planes appeal to me.
That's why you gotta keep a look out for enemies before they come, and btw, always try to predict them coming for you if you're destroying ground targets

I always find if you fly past them at top speed look behind you to see which way they are turning to get into position and turn in that same direction while climbing now they have to reposition again while loosing speed after you make the second pass look back again while doing a dive in the opposite direction of which they are turning ao you have all the speed while they are trying to regain it andthe only way they can regain it is flying away from you in a straight line which makes them an easy target or diving into your crosshairs

***** Lol dude... Remember that a stuka was a ground attacker, and should be used as such in the game. Ground attackers are supposed to NOT stand a chance against regular fighter planes, such as the yak. If you managed to win a dogfight against a fighter, than he did something terribly wrong. A stuka is and always will be an easy target for a fighter pilot! If you want to fly it properly, let the fight between fighters develop while you're way back, and then go attack ground targets as far away from the enemy as possible. Even then, if you get jumped by a fighter, your best chance for survival is doing a head-on. If both of you survive, don't turn against him, just dive away in a straight line for your airstrip and hope that he doesn't get to you in the mean time!
What I usually do is pull up and hit the brakes. This allows me to stall before the enemy and get away. Also I might get some shots to the enemy plane if it passes me before I stall
Very useful video , it can really help especially at 4:35 , I was looking for a simple way to kill enemies that have a better energy state and are attaking me .. basically force them 2 overshoot , it can work even with the worst turning rate boom & zoomers (fw 190 ) if the maneuver is executed properly (spirals , barrel rolls ... ) . How can we expect reloading a 30mm mk 108 within 10" at 3:27 ? Is it ur crew ? Is it still possible 2day ?

about 15 minutes ago, I had a plane on my tail. I could not dogfight cause of my turn time, so i started going through the trees with my plane sideways. That will lessen the amount of space that needs to be open to get through, and eventually, the enemy fighter crashed and i was on my way, but dont try it if you are not good at flying.
I always decrease my accelaration every time i'm turning left to right to shake my enemy idk but they just overtake me everytime and then increase throttle pursuing them.
Krebs is using good and fast planes, witch is fine, but a tip is to fake a crash if your not in a fast plane. stall your engine and fall until they leave, than go up and get them.
I've found it much better to play as British when flying around in tight areas because of how nimble they are. Sure enough they can only scratch the dudes but using their flaps and gears at once as gotten me a good few kills here and there.
I'm a stunt guy so if I'm being g tailed I find mountains or big objects and nearly clip them while I fly away safe my enemy usually goes around the obstacle
Wish he'd try these in realistic battles, a lot of these things you can't pull off very well. This is in Arcade which makes spazzy maneuvers like that workable.
So how do you get enemies off your tail when: -They are not going fast enough to make them pass in front of you. -Your team is not in the situation to help you. -The opponent has a better turn rate, speed and climb rate.(unlike all the opponents this video mentioned, unless you were helped by team mates) You can't get them in front of you because they are not going fast enough, you can't run away because they have a faster plane and you can't out preform them in a vertical climb.
How would you climb like that and still be able to see the plane behind you? Because the mouse is used for turning, and I know you can use page up/down to use your flaps, but is there another way to do it? Or is it just all mouse and he held C to look behind him?
The first battle i played in war thunder was an arcade battle. Flying the I-15, i got something like 8 kills, did not die, did not even get shot at, then never played an arcade battle again.
But how do you lose someone more maneuverable than you. such as when I come against a yak-9 while flying my p-47 loaded with a bomb and rockets for ground attack.
I was just playing a match in Arcade Battles, and I said in chat (after trying and failing at all of these maneuvers), "This game makes me want to jump off a bridge, yet I keep playing. Send help." One of my teammates replied: "I know some good bridges, and will gladly join."
Keep in mind that spazzing out only works in arcade and against noobs who try to shoot the targeting reticle. The plane itself hardly moves, and the changes it does make are increasing the profile of the plane. Anyone who's played a couple of rounds of RB will tear you up.
I have "top gunned" it and had it work beautifully, but if they aren't going fast, you are roadkill. Last ditch because you lose all energy to boot. I never use a vertical corkscrew, such a great maneuver, thanks for reminding me.
is it a good idea to use low rank planes when i alredy have high rank planes? one of the planes i get the most kills with is i-16 type 27 but i have unlocked yak-3p and other advanced planes , i dont know if i should get rid of i-16 or if i should get rid of yak-9T
Laszlo Szabo the i-16 is the Fokker Triplane of the game ; very versatile and a big punch..but not top fast or able to reach the bombers at high altitude. I also keep it, simply to have the option of throwing in this type of plane when the situation calls for it. (e.g. my bomber got killed before it cld throw its bombs by a agile FW190..then I scream for revenge; and the revenge comes in the shape of my I-16
i got another trick. if you'r in a light plane with fast turning tail wing an a wery quick turning vertical fin, if you press Q until you can't turn more to the left, the press E til you can't turn more to the right. keep on doing that and you will lose a lot of speed realy fast and you'r plane will be all over the place, so they can't hit you
Really nice! I just started playing this game yesterday, after some struggle I now manage to score top 3 on almost every match :P last time I got killed once and killed 9 while doing 9 assists
I just fly towards the nearest mountain and swing upwards before crashing , fly up in the air and drop down again to land a few shots and fly at really low alt.
vertical corkscrew - always stall before my enemy does and i get killed right after i started the corkscrew mountains - not possible in air rb spazzing with mouse / parkinson - i get almost all the time 1-shoted out of my cockpit

I play as Japan and USA, mostly. Easiest nation, my ass. Japan's planes are made of tin foil and balsa wood. I haven't touched Germany, though. Nothing about those planes appeal to me.

The warm milk baby bottle tier physics and aim indicator? Arcade isn't fun because it takes away all skill and the necessity of actually having the learn the subtleties of each plane.
I always find if you fly past them at top speed look behind you to see which way they are turning to get into position and turn in that same direction while climbing now they have to reposition again while loosing speed after you make the second pass look back again while doing a dive in the opposite direction of which they are turning ao you have all the speed while they are trying to regain it andthe only way they can regain it is flying away from you in a straight line which makes them an easy target or diving into your crosshairs
This game is horrible when it comes to new players. Im trying to play as a stuka but as soon as you get someone on your tail, YOU CANT DO SHIT.
Here's a tip, cut the engines, climb up, they go past, put the engines back, now you're tailing them.

You just have to do it quick enough, also search up "Target Selection guide for War Thunder" That should help you not to get into a clusterfuck of planes and be gangraped by YAKs.
***** Lol dude... Remember that a stuka was a ground attacker, and should be used as such in the game. Ground attackers are supposed to NOT stand a chance against regular fighter planes, such as the yak. If you managed to win a dogfight against a fighter, than he did something terribly wrong. A stuka is and always will be an easy target for a fighter pilot!
If you want to fly it properly, let the fight between fighters develop while you're way back, and then go attack ground targets as far away from the enemy as possible. Even then, if you get jumped by a fighter, your best chance for survival is doing a head-on. If both of you survive, don't turn against him, just dive away in a straight line for your airstrip and hope that he doesn't get to you in the mean time!
Just play air ab until you get good at at and when someone gets on your tail just do a loop or an immelmann.

What I usually do is pull up and hit the brakes. This allows me to stall before the enemy and get away. Also I might get some shots to the enemy plane if it passes me before I stall

Very useful video , it can really help especially at 4:35 , I was looking for a simple way to kill enemies that have a better energy state and are attaking me .. basically force them 2 overshoot , it can work even with the worst turning rate boom & zoomers (fw 190 ) if the maneuver is executed properly (spirals , barrel rolls ... ) . How can we expect reloading a 30mm mk 108 within 10" at 3:27 ? Is it ur crew ? Is it still possible 2day ?
I like to go as close as I can to the ground. It causes people to either crash, or turn off cause they don't want to fly that low. works really well

about 15 minutes ago, I had a plane on my tail. I could not dogfight cause of my turn time, so i started going through the trees with my plane sideways. That will lessen the amount of space that needs to be open to get through, and eventually, the enemy fighter crashed and i was on my way, but dont try it if you are not good at flying.

I always decrease my accelaration every time i'm turning left to right to shake my enemy idk but they just overtake me everytime and then increase throttle pursuing them.
Krebs is using good and fast planes, witch is fine, but a tip is to fake a crash if your not in a fast plane. stall your engine and fall until they leave, than go up and get them.
in my spitfire mk II b I have a habit of using my landing airbrakes to pull incredibly tight turns to lose people tailing me

I've found it much better to play as British when flying around in tight areas because of how nimble they are. Sure enough they can only scratch the dudes but using their flaps and gears at once as gotten me a good few kills here and there.

What I do is I just slow to idle and put on the flaps/airbrake. They just fly right by me and it works like 3/4 of the time.
I'm a stunt guy so if I'm being g tailed I find mountains or big objects and nearly clip them while I fly away safe my enemy usually goes around the obstacle
One that worked for me was flying slowly near the tops of trees, as someone is following you, if they are tunnel visioning enough they will crash.
I find that last one the most effective out of all of them
Everytime I try to do a vertical corkscrew the plane turns horizontal. How do I make it go vertical while doing a corkscrew?
Wish he'd try these in realistic battles, a lot of these things you can't pull off very well. This is in Arcade which makes spazzy maneuvers like that workable.
What about on ps4??? I tried this but it doesn't seem the same as what u do
So how do you get enemies off your tail when:
-They are not going fast enough to make them pass in front of you.
-Your team is not in the situation to help you.
-The opponent has a better turn rate, speed and climb rate.(unlike all the opponents this video mentioned, unless you were helped by team mates)
You can't get them in front of you because they are not going fast enough, you can't run away because they have a faster plane and you can't out preform them in a vertical climb.

How would you climb like that and still be able to see the plane behind you? Because the mouse is used for turning, and I know you can use page up/down to use your flaps, but is there another way to do it? Or is it just all mouse and he held C to look behind him?
The first battle i played in war thunder was an arcade battle. Flying the I-15, i got something like 8 kills, did not die, did not even get shot at, then never played an arcade battle again.

To look at the enemy while flying, you use the lock bottom that locks on the enemy, or the one you manually control the camera?
What I do is when I’m going against lower tier planes, I go into a vertical climb, they stall, which gets me on their tail.
How do you make the climb & have a prefect control...I've tried it but isn't working
I weave in and out of trees and buildings, this often makes the enemy crash or just give up.
Yeah, a lot of these things you just can't do in RB

I was just playing a match in Arcade Battles, and I said in chat (after trying and failing at all of these maneuvers), "This game makes me want to jump off a bridge, yet I keep playing. Send help." One of my teammates replied: "I know some good bridges, and will gladly join."
Keep in mind that spazzing out only works in arcade and against noobs who try to shoot the targeting reticle. The plane itself hardly moves, and the changes it does make are increasing the profile of the plane. Anyone who's played a couple of rounds of RB will tear you up.
I have "top gunned" it and had it work beautifully, but if they aren't going fast, you are roadkill. Last ditch because you lose all energy to boot. I never use a vertical corkscrew, such a great maneuver, thanks for reminding me.
is it a good idea to use low rank planes when i alredy have high rank planes? one of the planes i get the most kills with is i-16 type 27 but i have unlocked yak-3p and other advanced planes , i dont know if i should get rid of i-16 or if i should get rid of yak-9T

the i-16 is the Fokker Triplane of the game ; very versatile and a big punch..but not top fast or able to reach the bombers at high altitude.
I also keep it, simply to have the option of throwing in this type of plane when the situation calls for it.
(e.g. my bomber got killed before it cld throw its bombs by a agile FW190..then I scream for revenge; and the revenge comes in the shape of my I-16
i got another trick. if you'r in a light plane with fast turning tail wing an a wery quick turning vertical fin, if you press Q until you can't turn more to the left, the press E til you can't turn more to the right. keep on doing that and you will lose a lot of speed realy fast and you'r plane will be all over the place, so they can't hit you

i went 16-0 with my bf 109 e-1 today... #1 out of everybody in the match it felt so good
I just fly towards the nearest mountain and swing upwards before crashing , fly up in the air and drop down again to land a few shots and fly at really low alt.
