Today I am super excited to start this Cafe Racer motorcycle restoration project. Restoring this motorcycle has always been a dream of mine, and this motorcycle project was a total steal at $700. The bones on this motorcycle are great, so watch along as I restore my Cafe Racer!

I'd be quite interested to see more progress on this project.
When I was younger, I had 3 different Honda CB750s. I rode a CB900 once and wow that was a monster. Plus it had the toe/heel shifter!
Cool project.
I'm really excited about it.
Holy cow! This is going to be a great build series! We can't wait to follow along to see the finished product. Great video as always Anne!
Thanks so much y'all! I'm extra excited about this one!!
This is going to be very exciting! And as always, I'm excited for the next series of videos !! Thanks for sharing!
I'm excited too!
I’m also building a cafe racer, so I will certainly be looking forward to future videos on this project. Mine is an ‘82 CB750F, I bought it non-running, total project bike and the electrical system is something I have yet to really dig into. Thanks for sharing this, and keep up the great work!
That is so awesome! A 750 would have probably been a tad better for my size, but couldn't pass up this particular bike when given the chance!
Really cool Anne, looking forward to following along! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!
Awesome, looking forward to the journey!!!
Me too!
OMG I can’t wait to watch this episode! We have a 1980 CBX 1000 that we have been restoring! Ann your channel and your personality are awesome!!
Yeehaw! I'd love to see some pictures of your project as well! Thank you so much for the encouragement!
I love this! Eagerly awaiting more!
I can’t wait to see the next cafe racer conversion video once you get your new workshop set up! I love motorbikes and have always wanted to learn how to work in them 😊
Woohoo! I can't wait to follow along with this build!
Oh man I'm so excited!!
Did this 15 years ago on a 79 KZ650, really makes the bike a whole new experience.
I'm excited about it! I'm not really into cruisers, so it will be fun to have a project to zoom around on while I'm working on the truck restoration.
Looks like another interesting series coming up, can't wait for them all, good luck,
Thank you! I'm pretty excited!
Anne, you totally Rock!!
I like it!! Use to ride when I was around your age & younger. During the 60's on my Harley. Looking forward to seeing you ride.
Can't wait to get this ol gal back on the road!
Nice. Love Cafe Racers. Especially Ducati
I'm a big fan of cafe racers myself :)
Very excited about this series as well as the truck! I ride a 1999 Yamaha Vmax 1200cc and can't wait to see what you do with this conversion!
Bob Watts best bike I ever owned was a 86 Yamaha Venture Royale an I believe same motor thats in your V-Max. What a great motor, an bike! Guy riding venture pulls up to me an says they met once a month, come to venture meeting so I do! They ask me to put my bike in local bike show with some of theirs, so I do an get Third place out of 168 bikes! It was nice bike!
That's awesome Bob! I'm excited to get the bike back on the road!
Looking forward to seeing this build.
I'm so excited about it!
Hell yeah! I’m doing the same thing with the same bike (and I also have a charging issue as well)!
lol, you too?!? Mine's an '82, same colors as this even , or they were. Apparently this whole CB line from Honda was notorious for the charging system going bad. So I've got the three parts in a box downstairs waiting for my buddy who is motorcycle mechanic to put them in. Then there's the valve cover gasket, a couple other little oil leaks here and there . . .! But it IS a very nice bike.
I got one of these bikes not too long ago (Mine is an '81) from a guy who went down on it and threw it into some trees at about 50mph. I just finished fixing it up and got it on the road but I'm waiting to finish my car before I start to tear it apart and make it into a cafe racer. These bikes seem really solid and are decently quick for what they are. Best of luck with your build!
I already loved your channel for your gardening, your love of animals and of course your carpentry/fabrication skills. Now, as a longtime biker myself, I love you more! :)
Glad to hear it!
Super cool project 😄
Café racers are the best
I have this exact bike w same problem word thanks for clarifying that. I want to get new carbs for it too but golly they're spensive
Anne, I can so see you flying down an Oregon State Hwy, goggles on patented hoody, and pony tail in the breeze. Awesome!FR
I'm excited to get her back on the road!
@@AnneofAllTrades I caught that "I'm"- you go girl! FR
Just when I thought you were the coolest person on RUclips, you go and one-up yourself. Now you're the coolerest person on RUclips!!!
Nice video Anne! and Congratulations! on the new cafe racer and Happy Birthday! Thanks for sharing with us.👌👍😎JP
Thanks JP! Adam and Isaac really knocked this birthday out of the park!
😎
Easiest way to check the stator of voltage is to put that meter on the battery when the bike is running to see if its bad. I own a 07 cb919. I'm also a motorcycle mechanic.
this video really hits me in the feels. over the summer i bought a 78 cb 750 ... the previous owner said "oil leak" was super excited to get a wrench on it, but being in nyc, storage and space was costly. turns out the leak was a massive hole in the engine, had to sell it. So that dream... has to wait awhile. Really hope your restoration project goes smoothly. It is a simple joy to get dirty, turn a wrench and work on an engine/machine such as a bike. best of luck
mannnn that is such a bummer. I had a project like that recently that was a major buzz kill. Hopefully this one goes a little smoother.
Happy Birthday, Anne.
Thank you!
Just when you thought this channel couldn't get any better. Boom a truck and bike restoration
boom :)
That's a cool build. I recently bought a 95 cb750 nighthawk to build into a cafe racer. But this thing had been chopped and built into a scrambler. Dirt bike tires, handle bars, both fenders. Tank off of....hell i don't even know lol. It's so much fun to ride, short pipes, it screams. I couldn't bring myself to change it. I named it Mad Max. Now im looking for another to make into a cafe racer lol. Good luck with your build.
This is a fun bike to work on. Pretty heavy though, lol. I am working on a series turning the 1983 CB1000 Custom into a cafe racer! Same bike but 1000cc! Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
My first motorcycle was a 1972 Yamaha XS650. I bought it after it sat for 10 years wrecked for $100. I rebuilt it and modified the motor for more power, I thought of making it a Cafe Racer. Keep up the good work!
That's awesome! Amazing you got it running again after it sat that long!
Great video Anne. I look forward to upcoming videos on this. My dad had a cb900 that he bought to fix up and sell. Before the 900 sold he picked up a cb750. I grew up riding dirt bikes and actually raced motocross at a local lions club track for couple years when I was 13-14. Naturally I got to ride both of the motorcycles that my dad bought which was fun to ride something different that was also bigger.
That's awesome! a 750 would have been more my size, but the 900's are so cool, and we got a killer deal on this bike, so win win win.
Can't wait to see how the bike turns out.
Me either!
Very cool! I’ve been wanting to do something like this
You should! It's a lot of fun so far :)
This should be a fun build for you!
I can't love this enough!
me either!
New to your channel, so this is going to be very old and probably very frequently said. But it’s awesome to see someone really be so open minded and want to be as well-versed in the trades as they possibly can! Especially motorcycles, the greatest vehicles on earth! And men find women that ride and are competent wrenches super attractive!! True fact!
Go, Anne, go! 🚲
Wow going to look great when done
I'm so excited to see it!
Nice bike Anne cb 900
Killin it!
Congrats... I have the same dream, but first I gotta finish this 120 year old reed organ I'm restoring... 😬😂... Good luck and enjoy 👍
Adam of no trades lol poor guy. A WARM HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you're family and friends from all of us crazy CANADIANS
haha he picked that moniker himself. Happy thanksgiving!
Cool project,
Whit
Hell yes! Build it!!!!!!
Just found this video today! Did you ever make other videos on the progress you made? I couldn’t find them
Same question I have the same bike and wanted to see the finished bike
Awesome project! I personally dislike the parts cannon method, but hey it works.
I would love to see if you finished, i love bikes and me and my brother we want cafferacer as well
Alas, we moved across the country unexpectedly right after I filmed this. I ended up trading the bike for a new wire harness for my 1953 Chevy truck
@@AnneofAllTrades Okay, so i hope you will find new bike and start again :) I just get piece of apple tree so i gonna try spoon as you doing.. Try that once, i have just knife for spoon from china.. So its not gonna be perfect, need to sharpe it :D Thx for your work
I converted the same bike, 1980 CB900c, after 25 years of ownership. Frame off, complete tear-down. Engine disassembled and professionally rebuilt. Carbs completely professionally rebuilt. Powder coated all frame and sundry parts (not tank). New trans gears and sub-trans gears. Everything. You are going to be amazed with your bike resto! Yours looks to be the '81-'82?
Anything since this video? I'm restoring/rebuilding a CB900C as well.
I'm old so I get con-fuddled easily.👴 I understand you have a "Anne's Arc" of animals, a "garden" that would make any famer proud, a (very, very -cool) Chevy truck, you weld, wood work and all the other things -so now you want to take a motorcycle and turn it into a café? 😲 Is it going to be for just breakfast and lunch? where do you cook? -oh, the exhaust-gotcha; won't it be sorta small to be a café? 🤔-Well, gotta go, brain is tired out. p.s. You do great things with great enthusiasm and sprit. 👏👍
hello anne, i greet you from germany. great video, very funny and good. greetings Garelli
I’ve always wanted to do a cafe racer project, this was perfect timing. Also, it looks like the end screen elements need to be dropped in.
Thanks for the heads up! RUclips has had a bug with the end screen cards for the last few montjs
Have the exact same motorcycle!
That's awesome!
I wish I could share photos on YT. In 2017 my wife and I went to the theater and parked nears us was a spectacular café racer. I told my wife that if I ever got a motorcycle this would be what I want. Of course living in the LA area I won't be getting a bike anytime soon. I value my life.
Send me some on Instagram @anneofalltrades! I love racers. They are so cool.
I love you Anne but the thought of taking that classic bike and chopping it up makes me cry a little on the inside.
I’m taking a bike that doesn’t work and giving it a second life where it will be enjoyed and regularly used, I don’t really see the problem...
@@AnneofAllTrades build a seat from scratch, or use one that's not mint! sell the mint seat on ebay
This is awesome! Any updated videos? I’m in the process of building my 81 cb900c and it’s going good so far
Happy Birthday! (Belated) :)
Thank you!
Nice. I ride ADV (tiger 800) but considering looking at something inexpensive but fun for zooming around with my sport bike buddies.
I'm excited to do a little zooming myself :)
Way too nice a biketo chop up. But I like where your going with it.
I just bought the same exact bike and I’m having the same exact problem. No charging for the battery.
I found it funny you have a Chinese sign in the back saying Please Don’t Smoke. :-)
I spent much of my young life living in China ;)
Anne, your project reminded me of my 71'-750CB. Get call from Mr. Honda Japan, who is this really? He called me Master, an asked to use my bike to build 100cc oversized piston system for Honda shops! He changed everything including paint! My friend an riding partner was cop in city I taught school, so he told his chief about speed of this bike for their bikes on force! So cops oranges cones part of 205 Hwy an did 150 mph speed runs! Beat couldn't do that today!? But bike needed aviation gas to keep this motor running right! So Mr. Honda took bike back an de-tuned piston system, from 12:1-10:1, an that bike I took around America! So Good thought in your build, You keep amazing me Darlin!
That's quite a story!!
Anne of All Trades I wanted to share that bike trip after Mr. Honda returned my bike. Started in Oregon City to Oregon Coast, down Coast redwood Forest (you'd like that), then dirt mile racing at Sacramento on to Ontario Motor Speedway bike racing, down to Disneyland, E. to Grand Canyon, E. Amarillo, Texas, Memphis, New Orleans, Daytona, Phily (Freedom Hall for Independence), DC (Smithsonian Institute), Indianapolis Speedway, relatives in Nebraska, Yellowstone, Salt Lake City, Pendleton, saw lovers in Salem, back home to Oregon City! Great Trip!
Love to see your enthusiasm. I'd have approached the charging issue from the other end, battery backwards. It's much more likely that the reg/rec would have burnt out rather than the rotor (very unusual). Then the stator much more likely than the rotor. Replace the lot and you'll probably fix it but me, being tight, wouldn't just throw money on parts.
I tried replacing the regulator before we filmed this actually, hoping I could drive the bike into the shop for the first scene, but it didn’t work. You can’t actually see it in the video but the rotor is completely shot. Between those two, it only makes sense to replace the stator while I’m at it, because new parts are likely to blow it anyway, or worse, the other way around.
@@AnneofAllTrades Fair comment. Rotors don't fail that often but if the stator did it can damage the rotor as well. So you've definitely done the right thing.
Good luck.
All right people! Everyone seems to know what a cafe racer is but me. Can somebody make me a little less ignorant? ( Caution: this is a huge undertaking)
Do a little googling and you’ll find some great examples. But in short- “A café racer is a lightweight, powerful motorcycle optimized for speed and handling rather than comfort - and for quick rides over short distances. With bodywork and control layout recalling early-1960s Grand Prix road racing motorcycles, café racers are noted for their visual minimalism, featuring low-mounted handlebars, prominent seat cowling and elongated fuel tank - and frequently knee-grips indented in the fuel tank”
Anne of All Trades ...Well thank you Anne! I was going to let one of your viewers answer as I didn't want to bother you cause God knows you have enough on your plate without me asking stupid questions.
NICE PROJECT! Electrical parts will cost more than you paid for the bike!
That’s why you’ve gotta start with a cheap bike ;)
Ditch the field excited alternator and go with a modern upgrade (permanent magnet). Regardless what you change out in the existing system it will fail again.. I can have a new cover made for you that accommodates GSXR stator.
watched and was looking for more and cant find
Currently doing the same to my CB900C. Same color and problems lol 😂
I had one for touring in 1982. oh how i envy you
Oh fun! So you had one while it still ran ;) Hoping to get this gal back on the road soon!
vroom!
Still have the oem gas tank
Hello Ann,
Just the one video!?
👍👍👍😁
Personally i like Cafe Racer Dreams #5
Wow... where's the end result ?
Still working on it. These aren't one week kind of projects ;)
I found this video looking for CB900C videos. Did you ever do anything with it?
...i forget... yes i love you..
Bike engine run but bike not run how about clutch/gears too! Anne, when you tell biker bike starts but doesn't drive, we think, moving forward as gears, chain, drive line not electrical if it staets! Great Job have to make space for music!
Hope it's some simple problem like the gear shift not being linked to the transmission rather than a failure in the transmission itself.
Transmission is fine, the bike doesn’t run because the charging system doesn’t work, as I mentioned in the video ;)
Helz YEAH!
😀
cafe racer, isn't that a slower street version of like moto gp, the ones max biaggio and valentino rossi rides, the lines are the same, though.
did you say "adam of no trades"? LOL does he have his own youtube channel?
That's his instagram handle ;)
He picked the moniker himself ;)
😊❤
6:28 THAT LOOKS LIK THE ALTERNATOR COVER???
What’s ended up happening???
You on a 900! Be bad fast!
Did this build not materialize?
Are you looking to sell the current gas tank cause im doing a restoration and if the gas tank is in good shape, would fit my bike perfectly.
Yeah I’d be happy to. Shoot me an email marketing@anneofalltrades.com
Anne of All Trades Ok, sent!
You're like the ideal woman. I like the "Adam of no trades" moniker too. I rode a bike like that in 1984, as well as a 1000cc version (which was noticeably stronger) and it was a lot of fun. Does it have the 2speed final drive?
He’s a clever guy. I laughed when he came up with that one. The 1000cc is a monster! Yep, only available on the 900 for two years. It’s a pretty special bike.
Is there anything you don't do?
Oh there's plenty I don't do, and I'm not good at a lot of this stuff, but learning is half the fun!
@@AnneofAllTrades Right on I enjoy following along and watching your videos. Thank you
👍🏻😀
So was the bike more work than you expected?
No, I moved across the country, started building a shop to work on it in February of 2020, then this happened: ruclips.net/video/gg631TW__qg/видео.html
all good things take time. Some far more than you ever expected.
I JUST Found this exact bike for $450 running. Is this a good deal? The owner claims it has 10 speeds... is this true? I wanna make a cafe racer out it ! budget style
Yeah that’s a great deal. I paid $600 for mine not running. And yeah technically it does have ten speeds. Do some research on it before you buy it
Your “get my hoodie” link isn’t working :(.
Unfortunately the company went out of business.
Sad.. I keep clicking on the link hopeing it was fixed..:( I wear a lot of hoodies in the shop and that one looked Awsome.
wait.... air suspension?! is that an after market thing or was that stock back then?
Aftermarket - The factory originals were oil filled shocks with coil springs. At least they were on mine in '85
Air suspension was stock on the 82 CB900 Customs. Another unique feature is the rear drive, essentially making it a ten speed.
🖒🖒🙌🙌
This Adam person you speak of, does he really exist?? Lol. Never seen him in any videos
Haha! He doesn’t like to be on camera.
