Just a note: Never dup an object. Just click on an object, hit edit, give it a new ID and when it says make new instance select YES. I found duping the object can lead to durty edits and the main file being edited some how. It is much safer to select edit on an object, give it a new ID and selecting yes to make a new object from there.
For everyone watching who cant figure out why the merchants dialogue won't open; you just need to set a time in your faction, don't let it stay at 'from 0 to 0'
Thanks, following Bethesda's wiki, I failed to get my merchant working, but a few things you mentioned I tried (a couple of checkboxes), and I tried re-adding the faction (noticed it was ranked at -1 for some reason, not sure if that was relevant), and got it working. Couldn't have done it without your help, it was driving me insane!
Dont want to tel you how to your job BIS, but if you put an "idle maker" in the area near where you placed the merchant, link ref them, edit the idle marker(should be a blue marker btw) and on the patrol put say 20 secs, and repeat this process for another one, your merchant will always be near the marker, or counter...just an observation, i watch all your vids, and its great that someone is explain the kit properly!!! thanks!
When I created my own in a dungeon, I had a game load glitch related to the investor perks from other holds that would not allow the game to start at all. Unless you're making a small plugin, my advice is to copy the chest, delete everything in it and start from scratch. Now I have a smith and an apothecary.
Not looked into this since I'm mostly focusing on trimming my mod list down at the moment, but you may want to look at either a Jarl or Steward's merchant settings since they're usually the ones with houses for sale and the key might be in there, that or maybe the fence, possibly.
Hey, thanks so much for these helpful videos. After watching your videos, I just made a new NPC . His name is J'skir, he is a Khajiit mage and is both a follower and a spell merchant. He lives with me and my spouse in Hjerim (Windhelm house) and even has his own bed. He eats 3 meals a day and goes to bed at a certain time. Anyways, I just thought I'd tell you what I have done so far. Thanks again for the help. Subscribed! :D
BestInSlot, please answer. I have the same issue as many of your viewers have. The occurring problem is that our merchants are set up as you did in the video, but simply say: "Yes?" "Can I help you?" "Huh?" But don't have any dialogue with the player. Thanks in advance!
dragonkingxv yeah i got mine to work at first but i tried to make another one and it won't work I've watched this video so much i could type out his instructions it still doesn't work and i don't know why.
Thanks this will help me, can you upload a video on how to create a custom faction/guild, because I want to make m own faction/guild that you can join and then use the quest tutorials you uploaded and make a custom guild with a quest line.
@975football Its the exact same process as making a dungeon except you build the dungeon interior as a house and the exterior you choose something that looks like a house or put together something that looks like a house.
Some of the voices don't work for merchants. If you search in the filter box of the Object Window: voicesblacksmith Then you double click on it and you will see all the voices compatiable with a blacksmith vendor. This also works for the different types of vendors too.
So I followed this video as best I could, trying to add a Merchant to my Lakeview property. I double checked all the settings shown in this video and she wont open a dialog to allow me to buy from her. All I get is the basic "What's up?" line from her, no option to buy. I'm lost, anyone have any suggestions on what I'm missing?
Holy shit I have the same problem. I got it right for one merchant when I first watched this, then I tried to do it on my own for a second merchant. I had that problem at first but then I fixed it somehow. Then I tried to make a third merchant and I've been having the dialogue problem for 3 hours now. I swear it has something to do with the chest that you copy for merchant inventory.
Have you tried different voice settings? Some of the voice settings are not ready with proper dialog for vendors/followers/other types. It can often be solved by simply changing the voice. Now that in mind, that happens with other choices too and simply choosing a different setting for several options corrects these issues.
@Rxmonste Wired. Logitech. I can't see anything wrong in the settings. But I don't think I ever use the the middle mouse button in any other program so it might be mechanical. (Scrolling works though as I said.)
Exactly? They are in the void so players can't take the items, on the PC you can use the console command "TCL" to get to the chest, or on another game console you can try to glitch out of the cell to the chest.
it would be awesome to see how to input voices in the game, the FUZ file is a combination of an mp3 and lip file and finding a proper program to do it is a pain
I've been following your videos, and love them. I have half a spiral notebook filled with notes from them. But, I can't get my merchant to work for some reason, even though I'm following your instructions to the letter here. I thought it might be because I was in a custom home, so I created a quick test character and put them in Fletchers in Solitude. No go...
I landed on these tutorials because I'm trying to make a non thieves guild fence. Anyways I skipped to your episode 7, and then did this episode. will be going back after I get this working. I created the merchant according to your tutorial fine, but then I went back and checked "only buys stolen items" and now I lose my dialogue with him. What can I do?
So I used, NewFollower from the previous video to make him a fence instead. But now when i go to sell stuff to him there are two of him, one that doesn't do anything but talk a little and one that acts as a fence. Why is there two?
I followed the tutorial to the letter, but when I activate my custom merchant, he just says "Need something?" And nothing happens. Any idea what's going on?
I had that problem before, then I just realized that I just didn't wait until 8:00 or whenever the store is supposed to open. Even when it is 8 sometimes it doesn't work, but I resolved that by waiting a while more until 10:00 and then he sold stuff, not sure if you have the same issue, but hopefully this helps.
***** it works i figured it out basically you make the individual items not have access with the user and make it owned by that npc and when he sells you that good it's a transfer of ownership so it's now yours. tl;dr- make the item only belong to the npc so it's not view-able in his inventory.
How to add merchant advertising talk? For example Arcadia in Whiterun and Madesi in Riften advertise their potions/jewels when player passes by. I experimented by adding different factions and still they are quiet. I copied Khajiit Caravan Merchant and he does advertise his goods.
In your vid you mention that the Not sel/Buy for Belethore is ticked but after looking myself it is actually not ticked at all { at least in my game } because instead of making a blacksmith I wonted to make a merchant that sells bits and pieces
Since the NPCs won't wander outside of whatever cell you place them in without an AI package that says otherwise, it's perfectly fine not to assign one. Don't worry about it.
Did you put in a navmesh? incorrect placements of navmeshes will make the npc stand only where there is a navmesh even if its outside the building in the void.
not surre if you still do it but can you show a video on creation kit as to how to add fog on 1 specific item in the world date (tamrel) i made a boat near riverwood but i want fog around it, cant figure the shit out rip
Nope, in Oblivion they were still in the void. Though I do remember something like that from Morrowind... But that might be because I haven't played it since it first came out.
Making a house cell and being able to tell the game that it's one of the player's houses, and being able to tell my spouse that we're moving there. Plus... my followers aren't coming in/out of newly created cells. I don't know if I have to tweak with the doors, the cell, or the navmesh :(
Yes, unless you change the voice, then it can break. Overall, you can add your custom faction after removing his original (not the JobMerchantFaction) and alter his AI Packages to do this.
How do you set a merchant to only sell any item(s) so designated, ONE time only? IoW, make certain items unique and once sold, they dont respawn. Thanks.
New to the CK eh? You can indeed, set that flag.... FOR CONTAINERs only. You cannot flag individual items within a container to not respawn. Containers reset when the cell does, and so their contents. There are ways to this I have learned, but they are rather involved. Your 'suggestion' is neither helpful, or even remotely informed.
Does not work anymore. My Merchant only keep saying "du hast hier nichts verloren" (german, means "leave! You shouldnt be here", if i press E on him. No Dialog Box opens.... PS: Solved! The problem was that i created a own house which i duplicated from "BattleBornFarm", i could not wait inside of this house because the message (sry, translated from german to english so its not original message) "You cant wait while you are break in a house" Can someone tell me how to make it so that the house belongs to nobody and i can wait inside of it ?!
English: At the top, left side of the screen is the World tab; next to Navmesh, open that tab up and click the Cells choice. Third one down. It'll open a window with every cell in the game, find your custom cell and click it to display its information. In this window is four more tabs, one is called Interior Data, clicking this you can set the cell name, ownership, and more options. Hope this helps! (I'm still learning German, I apologize.)
@975football Making a house would be the same as making a dungeon. Just grabbing different pieces, I would think. Check out his other tutorials and you should be on your way.
Hi. I got a project idea, but im very new to modding. You know that Sentence in the lower right corner in inventory that says Gold 21. I want it to say Septims 21 instead. Could i get some help?
Would it be possible for my merchant to read a book while standing still during the time she is selling her wares, and if so, what package am I supposed to use?
i got one tiny problem that just came up i made mila a mechant and it works just she is selling the weapons i put in her invontory as well as the items in the chest. how do you make it chest only? as am going to have other characters sell weapons. i guess for now i'll make the weapons cost too much since they arent supposed to be for the player anyways.
I tried it and got everything to work BUT what the vendor will buy and sell in game. When I walk up to the vendor in game it will give me the option to see what he has for sale but in the menu I see his name and my name but he sells nothing and I cant sell him anything, my inventory doesn't even show up in that menu. I tried setting the Location to "near self" and tried linking the chest using "near reference". The only difference is that this vendor is in an outside cell. please help!
How do you make and edit a worldspace and landscape? I'm trying to rebuild Solstheim, but am a little confused about making new world spaces and creating/editing landmass.
Hey, great tutorial, but when I make my new NPC (I edit Alvors base and just delete his AI packages and faction) and I add my new faction as well as the merchant faction and place him in game with an AI package telling him to stay in location, whenever I walk through the door to the shop he is always stand RIGHT by the door with his arms raised as though he's about to box with someone. . . he still lets me talk to him and browse his wares. How do I make him stay behind the counter without boxing
I've got my merchant working, and she buys items from me and the gold does appear in my inventory, but when I buy anything my gold goes away like I bought it and yet I don't receive the items(s). Any suggestions?
I did everything you did. But I placed my merchant in my custom built building and no matter what I do they aren't appearing can someone please help ??
My vendor disappears after about an hour of being there and doesnt come back. also i can interact with him but cannot trade with him all he says is stuff like "make it quick" and "whats up".
Just a note: Never dup an object. Just click on an object, hit edit, give it a new ID and when it says make new instance select YES. I found duping the object can lead to durty edits and the main file being edited some how. That's why Talos created xEdit
THAT's what "Dirty edits" are? What's even the point of that Delete option?
For everyone watching who cant figure out why the merchants dialogue won't open; you just need to set a time in your faction, don't let it stay at 'from 0 to 0'
I've made and uploaded two mods to steam today because of this series
what are they?
Corruption Gaming we shall never find out
I appreciate you making these videos. Me and a couple buddies are working on making a whole new world in skyrim.
Thanks, following Bethesda's wiki, I failed to get my merchant working, but a few things you mentioned I tried (a couple of checkboxes), and I tried re-adding the faction (noticed it was ranked at -1 for some reason, not sure if that was relevant), and got it working. Liked, Commented, and Subscribed. Thank you so much, I've been making a mod for Skyrim and now I finally have a merchant that sells it. Again, thanks.
wait that explains why there are random chest of loot in the ground
Yeah.
Excellent, really useful and clear tutorial. I've used a few of your guides now and they're always great. Nice work!
Dont want to tel you how to your job BIS, but if you put an "idle maker" in the area near where you placed the merchant, link ref them, edit the idle marker(should be a blue marker btw) and on the patrol put say 20 secs, and repeat this process for another one, your merchant will always be near the marker, or counter...just an observation, i watch all your vids, and its great that someone is explain the kit properly!!! thanks!
you're my favorite guy! NOW I CAN BUILD THE MANSION!
Easy to see you've put a lot of time into this. Well done.
When I created my own in a dungeon, I had a game load glitch related to the investor perks from other holds that would not allow the game to start at all. Unless you're making a small plugin, my advice is to copy the chest, delete everything in it and start from scratch. Now I have a smith and an apothecary.
Thanks! Not fully watched it yet, but I love your videos and I've been finding them very helpful!
Your videos are really very helpful and I appreciate them enormously.
Lighting or quest are the next tutorials that I'd like to see
In an earlier vid you said you'd show us how to make armor into an armor set.
Worked flawlessly :) Thank you very much for your tutorials!
Not looked into this since I'm mostly focusing on trimming my mod list down at the moment, but you may want to look at either a Jarl or Steward's merchant settings since they're usually the ones with houses for sale and the key might be in there, that or maybe the fence, possibly.

That's cool
I wish I had my own NPC too
Your tutorials are really informative.
Kudos.
Thank you very much for making this video, helped me out a lot.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
wanted to do this for some time now.
GREAT VIDS.
Keep 'Em coming :)
Thank you again =) Next you should make a quest and dialogue tutorial as they go in perfect together
I really want to see you populating youre dungeon with monsters and add lightning
Great videos as always!!
Cheers from holland!

+Zek457 He's right cuz some voices dont support the dialogue needed for a merchant's voicelines
try to disable and re enable
Thanks a lot for the On self thing, it wasnt working for me neither when i tried other options... keep up your good work
Thanks this will help me, can you upload a video on how to create a custom faction/guild, because I want to make m own faction/guild that you can join and then use the quest tutorials you uploaded and make a custom guild with a quest line.
no dislikes! look like your tutorial is 100% helpful, which it is :)
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for all the help!
@975football Its the exact same process as making a dungeon except you build the dungeon interior as a house and the exterior you choose something that looks like a house or put together something that looks like a house.
"We don't do navmeshing, thats boring" So fucking true, fell asleep 3 times navmeshing..

Can you make a series of Tutorials on how to make a city with all the components?
quest making is the next tutorial I would like to see m8
i always wanted to see a video with less than 1,000 views then look five days later and see 22,000.
:)
Really good tutorials, can you do one which goes into making more complex npc's??
I can't say "what do you have for sale" to him
@Rxmonste Wired. Logitech. I can't see anything wrong in the settings. But I don't think I ever use the the middle mouse button in any other program so it might be mechanical. (Scrolling works though as I said.)
I made an argonian merchant who sells almost every type of item in the game.

@975football He kindof did when he made the aboveground dungeon entrance. But oyu still have to find the right pieces
I've been following your videos, and love them. I have half a spiral notebook filled with notes from them. what if i want to edit a blacksmith like adrianne ? the chest is inside her house and it dosen't seem to work when i add stuff for her to sell.
How do I make my own playable race? EX. When I first start the game and choose my race it will show up or if I pull up the race menu etc.
I thought you said "We need to great a faction which makes our vendor a bender xD" nether the less great video +like
Many thanks about this tutorial !
@ForAdventure I only say this because it didn't work before, with only the skyrim file, but with update.exe, it worked.
Great tutorials btw.
@975football houses work exactly the same as making a dungeon bro, you just don't fill them with traps and enemies lol
How to add merchant advertising talk? For example Arcadia in Whiterun and Madesi in Riften advertise their potions/jewels when player passes by. I experimented by adding different factions and still they are quiet. I copied Khajiit Caravan Merchant and he does advertise his goods.

Hey i was wondering, I have a fence, would it be possible to make it so that when you join the thieves guild you get a discount?
Isn't a High Elf in Blades Armor kind of Ironic?
Can it go wrong or something if you add him to a blacksmith trainer faction?
basing on your knowledge would it be possible to create a npc, an altar or anything like this where you could unlearn some of your perks?
Could you do a video for adding traps to the dungeons.
My npc wont show up in game and my mod is active! pls help
edit: i re-ran the game and it shows up but the dialog wont show up if i press e on him
Could you please make a >>Making a Quest
Making a house cell and being able to tell the game that it's one of the player's houses, and being able to tell my spouse that we're moving there.
Plus... my followers aren't coming in/out of newly created cells. I don't know if I have to tweak with the doors, the cell, or the navmesh :(
@TheSmasherAsher surely that depends if you're editing something that inherits from the contents of Update.ESM
Really helpful!
I noticed when u were Selecting a race I saw "Horker" does that mean you can have a hooker with a SHop keeper's voice that u can buy stuff from? :D
nice thanks for this video. Is it possible to just duplicate belethor and just change the appearance and job type?
Yes, unless you change the voice, then it can break. Overall, you can add your custom faction after removing his original (not the JobMerchantFaction) and alter his AI Packages to do this.
How do you set a merchant to only sell any item(s) so designated, ONE time only? IoW, make certain items unique and once sold, they dont respawn. Thanks.

can you please make thesevideos more frequently!
If i leave the buy/sell list as none does he buy anything?
Do how to make a Quest tutorial! :> Sure dear esther is nice but we need you in Creation kit!!!! :>
Does not work anymore. My Merchant only keep saying "du hast hier nichts verloren" (german, means "leave! You shouldnt be here", if i press E on him. No Dialog Box opens....
PS: Solved! The problem was that i created a own house which i duplicated from "BattleBornFarm", i could not wait inside of this house because the message (sry, translated from german to english so its not original message) "You cant wait while you are break in a house"
Can someone tell me how to make it so that the house belongs to nobody and i can wait inside of it ?!

Glad to be of assistance.

@975football Making a house would be the same as making a dungeon. Just grabbing different pieces, I would think. Check out his other tutorials and you should be on your way.
@araluenranger12 you can use an xbox controller for pc
What if i want a follower with the ability to conjure a dremora merchant for me?
i did this and it worked but how do you get them to go home and eat and then bed or talk to outher npcs then back to work

do you know how to make a trainer?
is it just to choose that as a class and give them the faction?
Can you show us Houses, cities and world-spaces?
Can you show how to put enemies into the dungeon we made?
