In English seismically is pronounced size-mick-lee. But it might be easier to say "active earthquake region". I've lived on Crete for 15 years and I've felt only 3 earthquakes - just a very slight rocking motion.

As an expat in Greece, I'm telling you that there are excellent Greek online stores with fantastic prices. Please do your research. As expats, we must support the local market and even more, the local physical shops.
The internet speed is important these days. Different providers deliver different speeds, depending on the area you live in and where the antennas are located. If there is a hill or buildings blocking you and many other things influence the speed. I live in a village on an island. I have wireless mobile data. I changed provider and thus improved the speed x 4. Then I put an extern antenna on the roof and connected it to the router with a SIM card and limitless data. This increased the speed still x 2. Now I have a download speed between 130 - 20 mbps. Best very early in the morning and when there are no holidays or tourists around. The tourists seem to stream a lot. The upload speed seems to be much lower then the download speed in Greece. Unproportionally so, most often.
@@Sunpire In general Cosmote has the best coverage in Greece. Especially on the islands. I had Vodafone before, but it was extremely volatile, and with a bad signal at best. NOVA was even worse. I tested it with a SIM card. By the way, I am not a fan of any of these companies with their money grabbing practices.
i work few times from greece in a village in thessaloniki and i use a mifi with an unlimited internent for a month from cosmote and although its not as fast as uk i can work without issues, also do video calls and meetings with no problem and thats in a village.
You have to choose a beach that is protected from the wind. On a small island that is possible, on Crete it is not that easy. The northern Meltemi wind rules most of the summer. Unlucky for an island like Crete, where the most resorts are on the northern, quite straight coast. Not many bays to seek shelter in.
The extreme weather is here in Connecticut, USA too. We have more bugs now especially ticks. More windy. We get bad air from Canadian and western USA wildfires. We also have some areas with flash flooding. We have more thunderstorms. I think my cats would like the weather in Greece better. But my dog probably likes it where I am now.
@@Sunpire I don't know yet. Still researching. I lived in Greece when I was 3-4 years old. Otherwise USA. I speak, read, and write Greek at elementary level. Also some Spanish. I am dual US & Greek citizen. I have relatives all over US, Greece, Australia, and UK. I feel like I don't belong anywhere. If I were to go to Greece, if I were to go to an island Crete is on my top ten; however, even on Crete it is difficult to decide where to reside. Because I love animals it may be good for me to go near Lerapetra where Jutta and Takis shelters are. But that is hours away by vehicle to the western part of Crete where you are. The benefits of Crete to me are the sea and sun. The negative is wildfire, water scarcity and stress, earthquake, and immigration where they may want to steal or harm me due to necessity. War is always a concern too. The weather and war seem to be affecting all of us on the planet. Again, thank you for your videos. I enjoy them.
I have a cosmote mobile plan so with it you have the options to get another 3 sim cards for 5g internet . it costs like 3 euros a month and you have unlimited speed. So try get a 5g router with a sim insert and you will be happy.
Yes I am from Australia and the internet speeds have shocked me. I try to do all my work in the morning, before I go out - in the afternoon, here on Syros in the summer, it slows down to be almost unworkable at times.
The one with the African dust was once in 5 years but now it is 5 times in a year!.. (Southerly winds and it is not a phenomenon of Crete but up to Thessaloniki now) ps: Cockroaches and mopeds are fast in Greece, not the internet!.. 😁
I would say 5G w unlimited data is a solution but yet it doesn't give you a quality answer to your upload needs. Have you thought Starlink? Residential plan is 40eur/mo at "Unlimited high-speed, low-latency internet". You can always have two non-contract 5G connections for backup and when out of home. And you don't need a land line.

When i was on crete, i had a cosmote mobile sim for internet, worked really well almost everywhere.
Cable/fiber is a different option :)
I second that. Greece has 5G so a wireless connection is best. Greece is not known for her fiber connectivity..😊
We have a sim card inserted into a router, but for WiFi, this option is not that good. For mobile on the other hand, does the job and more.

I think we should try the antenna thing that you said next. Maybe we can improve our speed. Is the upload that bothers us...
