Like many of you, this mix changed my life and the direction I went musically and socially… for the better. Listening to it again now as I make my children breakfast.
This mix, along with Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco, Todd Terry's Live At Hard Times, and Coldcut's original 70 Minutes Of Madness, changed my life forever. There were plenty of other notable mixes, such as both MF's and DC's other recorded mixes, like Connect, About Now, San Francisco Sessions, and a few others. But no other mixes ever came close to doing anything to me on such a deeply philosophical level as these 4 mixes.
Lemme stop you right there: don't EVER compare Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco mix to anything else; that was the greatest house mix ever recorded & widely distributed.
To me one of Farinas best mixes ever.so smooth and slick. Saw him several times live and even got to chat with him.very down to earth and friendly fellow.when house used to be a love thing,an spiritual thing❤
Absolutely.. me as well. I remember listening to this a lot on the way back from a dope ass Midwest party. Usually anywhere from a 2hr - 5hr drive back. Where I live is right in the center of Chicago, Twin Cities, Madison, Green Bay, Milwaukee Rochester (mn), . Fuck I miss those days.
I agree the sound brings back some of the Best Nights out in SAN Francisco and the Great VIB OF THE CROWD AND THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WHO YOU MEET DANCING TILL THE SUN COMES UP!
My all time favorite mix CD, favorite track is and will always be N"aked Music NYC - It's Love (Joshua's Mo' Luv Vocal Mix)" damn I used to loooooove vocal house so damn much.
This was such a great time for west coast house/tech/trance, one of my older freinds came back from San Fran in '96 with some tapes that blew our Iowa minds, and I never looked back. RIP moonshine and all the fantasic work they did. United DJ's of America was sold all over the country, no doubt it helped break open the sound in the late 90's!
Everybody should check out Dimitri from Paris " Night at the playboy Mansion". It's the set that he played at one of Hugh's famous Playboy Parties!!!!!
I used to spin tracks off of this vinyl as it had all the complete songs. Mark Farina has always had a great ear for great tracks. I remember watching him DJ the sunrise set at JuJu Beats. Magic! Thanks for the upload.
wow, how fortunate you must have been, in New Zealand the greats still resonate, Derrick May (Detroit), oohh cant remember a time where there was a presence in my country. Dj Sneak would have been a great catch to come over!, I dont get it, these cats would have a massive hit up, be welcomed respectively, have a pad to crash at and smoke some of the finest weed NZhas to offer, which is probably better than anything they have ever had!!! Yes very real!!!
23 years old, man...still so soooo good... such memories. I enjoy playing this for the next wave of ravers, laughing that it is almost as old as they are. Farina is the king.
Yes, thank you. I remember listening to this and was blown away by his use of EQ. Little did I know the impact he would have on the DJ scene. Hands up!!
Haha I still have all these tracks complete on the vinyl 3 record set... in mint shape! Still got my Tech 12's too. Never gonna get rid of those gems...
OMG !!!! I would dance to this whole cd NON-STOP!!! My sister sent this to me and now I am looking ALL OVER TO BUY THE CD..STILL HAVE A PLAYER IN MY CAR!! ROAD TRIP MUSIC WHEN I GO BACK TO BROOKLYN!!! WORK OUT MUSIC RIGHT NOW !!!
My memories are flooding back, to when I FIRST heard this played, by a ol' co-worker. I immediately bought my own CD, & I cannot count, how many times I've played it since.!
Thanks so much for uploading this. Only mix I have ever bought in 3 formats - cassette, CD, and vinyl. Unfortunately I only have the vinyl these days so finding this on YT is a HUGE bonus!
I think it was Mixmag, one of the dance magazines at the time, in their review said the "mixing was average" for this. Stopped buying magazines after that.
Back in the day, my buddy bought this CD for his girlfriend mistakenly, thinking it was something else. She hated it, and gave it back to him, and this introduced us into to this type of house. My world would never be the same. This is, to this day, one of my favorite house mixes of all time. Imagine just stumbling in to this type of shit nowadays lol.
I got 2, on my cell phone.! The few songs at the beginning, Hooked Me(as well as, the few at the end..). As well, with middle, too.! Its good to see it 'preserved', on RUclips. ;)
Funny story, so I got this mix off Napster, so I considered myself public enemy #1. Everytime I listened to it I thought they were gonna break through the windows and bust me for piracy which made this mix gold to me. Its still is a treasure! Fact: Till this day Lars from Metallica is still mad 😂
does anyone remember a late 90's farina set , maybe even 2000 , that had a track w/ female vocals , the lyrics went like "I'll get over youuuuuu, yes i will. i'll get over baby, i'll get over baby." been searching for years!!! anyone?
Haha, sounds familiar... Ive been looking for a Jeno track for years, it was a Blue Tape, and had the track with female vocals, "Me and My Girl, keepin each other satisfied.." Dope beats of course... Tape got stolen, like all of my music did at that time...🌼🤟
lovely, i was privy to this as a 19yr old, my 9 year old daughter and I have this album running in the background whilst we are playing kinect, I am quietly introducing a better music listening model then the one she is currently listening to!!!. Crack up now shes into the the Lindt 33% cocoa range with the toasted hazelnut.!! Oh shit what am I going to do !!!
Kendrick is one of the most talented hip hop MCs in the last 5 years. The greatest musicians and singers have cooperated with him. Do you know how Herbie Hancock is? I hope you do, otherwise you should check him out. Iif Herbie Hancock, one the greatest jazz musicians who's been killing it since 1965 acknowledges (and cooperates with) Kendrick, I think that he deserves some respect.
🤔 You mean the sound pioneered by Jeno Garth Markie and the Wicked Crew that all flew over from England? Or you mean the Hardkiss brothers that flew over from back east? To create the “San Fran” sound. What an ignorant and elitist comment. Leftists always claim to be inclusive yet they consistently show to be the the most fascist with their fabricated cult realities of how the world revolves around them.
It’s clowns like this who will also claim “borders” don’t exist and all illegal immigrants are instantly American as soon as they cross an invisible line…
Still loving this in 2023
And 2024!!
Like many of you, this mix changed my life and the direction I went musically and socially… for the better. Listening to it again now as I make my children breakfast.

Agreed! This and cosmic disco are permanently etched in my mind and soul.
Lemme stop you right there: don't EVER compare Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco mix to anything else; that was the greatest house mix ever recorded & widely distributed.
Wow what a classic. The San Francisco Sound. Bulletproof parties.... damn those were incredible times for House Music in SF.
To me one of Farinas best mixes ever.so smooth and slick. Saw him several times live and even got to chat with him.very down to earth and friendly fellow.when house used to be a love thing,an spiritual thing❤
My first House Mix CD. Brings back so many memories....

Crustation- flame (borderline insanity dub) as an opening track is the bomb ... that baseline 👌🏽

Crustation, still one of the best tunes around with farina putting his mark on it😉 what a flow and that beat.
Farina, the baddest bad of our time...
This mix is called Frisko Disko. I don't understand why the name keeps changing.

Mark Farina - Live Hf 8/2000
Haha, sounds familiar...
Ive been looking for a Jeno track for years, it was a Blue Tape, and had the track with female vocals, "Me and My Girl, keepin each other satisfied.."
Dope beats of course...
Tape got stolen, like all of my music did at that time...🌼🤟
Sounds to me like Gus Gus - VIP, perhaps the MAW remix, as that one keeps the vocals prominent.
Yeah....thats an ian pooley track called ironically" ill get over you" its a red n white sleeve...

Nothing to do with san Francisco. This is Chicago. Just because a d.j moved from Chicago to san Fran. Dosen't make this the sound of san Francisco
You're putting us to sleep over here on the West Coast, Mikey.
Interesting you say this cuz I realize I like Mark’s "Chicago" sound more than his other styles. Seasons has the Chi vibe too. Well to my ears.
