- Long Wave is not an advertised feature of the HanRongDa HRD-747 radio.
Medium Wave has a built in ferrite but Long Wave does not. However there is a trick you can do to pick up long Wave. This video shows you how to do it.
The Antenna used in the video can be picked up online from a Greek company

Thanks also for the video..
I'm in Australia. I just purchased the 747.. From AliExpress (15/04/22) it will probably take a few weeks to be delivered..
Happy Easter..
I got a Retekess TR110, and when I plugged in the LW/MW antenna that came with the Tecsun PL-368 and tuned to beacon LLW on 254 kHz, it overloaded with strong local MW (AM) stations like AM 790 WNIS-AM and AM 1050 WVXX-AM over here in the 23462 listening area in Virginia Beach, VA. It seriously needs a low pass filter for the LW band or it could use a tunable LW-MW loop antenna that resonates on the LW frequencies for it to make it work effectively. The tunable loop antennas work great with this radio, but the broadband loops and active antennas, you will need a low pass filter to block out the strong MW (AM) local signals.
Yes, I have an external mw lw antenna from tecsun. Thank you for the information and video. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you very much, still learning this radio.
Tecsun external lw and mw antenna will work too, normally used on one of their other radios
Valuable video, thanks...
Dan are you thinking of buying one
Unfortunately SSB does not work on mine. I ordered Raddy RF760 from Radioddity. I told them about the issue, they sent me a replacement and same story. There must be a batch of defective radios on LSB and SSB. I will post a video on RUclips soon to demonstrate the bug on both radios :(
Only works on SW, unfortunately
Can you also test PMR446 (US and Australian Amateur band), Canadian FRS/GMRS (462/467 MHz; Fire Brigades in the UK, Police radios in Russia, Commercial Radios in Australia), North American NOAA Weather Band (162.4 - 162.55 MHz) Taxi Radios in the UK), Aussie UHF CB (476-477 MHz, Police Radio in the US).
Do you have the airplane tickets? Ill gladly do it if you supply them. First class preferable.
@Francis are you being serious or kidding?
@@sunnylm2045 serious
Please active link for outside antenna.
Its in the description.
Could you please give the specs of that amazing external ferrite antenna?
Its just a Variable Capacitor/inductor tuned circuit that covers the Long Wave band.
There is a Greek company that makes them.
They also make a Medium Wave version too.

@@millinchip2 Thank you! It is a well known circuit indeed, but looks well built.
Thanks for the video. I also have that antenna, both for MW and LW but I would like to know what kind of cable to connect them to the radio (connectors and cable). Thank you!!
Cable with 3.5 inch mono jack connectors either side. I think they have to be mono., i.e. just two connections.
@@millinchip2 Thanks for the reply ,, the cable is therefore a simple audio cable? Not coaxial?
@@TiZi8008 Yes but only the mono audio type. I don't think a stereo one with the 3 connectors would work.
Thanks for the video, just wondering did you find any FM break through from around 25MHz onward? I have the retekess tr105 have that problem.
No, I did a scan of that band and got nothing.
Hello I'm in Dublin have the malachite 10v3d it's like a. Hi end hf receiver I tested it against a ftdx 3000 equal porformance I'm thinking of of the 767 are you near Dublin 7
Yes I am in Dublin 4. I am not a HAM guy. I just collect and fix radios.
@@millinchip2 what sort of radios
@@martinryan5069 Mostly higher end tabletops like 70's Roberts, Sony and Panasonic. I have fixed Telefunken's and Nordmende's too. It's not a business as I already have a day job. Its just a hobby.
@@millinchip2 good I have a Philips d 2999 and a Panasonic Dr 31 and a keen wood r 2000 nice to know there is very few people that fix old radios in lreland buy the way if your selling that hrd 767 let me know please
@@martinryan5069 If you are talking about the Hanrongda HRD 747 No, I kind of like it too much. But you can get one on Aliexpress for around €80. They will inevitably come down in price too if you wait a few months.
Bad assistance. Not receiving Air, faulty antenna
It's almost impossible to pick up longwave on a portable radio without a fairly sophisticated antenna designed for that purpose. I'm guessing they disabled the LW band function unless such an antenna is plugged in so people didn't think that the LW band on the radio was defective.
I wish it would pick up 160m!
