I have a 2018 Giulia QV. Had I’d it for 18 months so far and absolutely love it. Only two complaints r the shift lever(cheap feeling) and the hood latch. Nice to see Alfa upgrade the shifter. Don’t really care about a touch screen but most people do, so also nice to see an upgraded version. Would like to see more interior options in the US, but all in all I think the Giulia is the best choice in the category. It doesn’t look like anything else and the design is timeless.
Totally agree with you, on every aspect. I didn't go for the QV, I settled with the Veloce in pretty much the same configuration as shown here (with this incredible Misano blue paint and yellow calipers, stunning, can't get enough of it). 18 months also and a little more than 30000 km. No issues at all... apart from the fact that I want to get at the wheel again as soon as I step out of the car! :-D Quite a paradox this Giulia: everyone loves it but no one buys it (well a few lucky or smart people do fortunately), starting with the Italians. I drove to Milan last December and as soon as I crossed the border into Italy, I swear to God I didn't see any Giulias AT ALL (quite a few Stelvios though). About time Italians remember they're better off with a car industry before it's too late. I hope the partnership with PSA will give a positive impulse and get this brand to the top again, where it definitely belongs.
I think they should have updated the face. It looks a bit awkward to me, the face they teased for the stillborn GTV and the face on the Tonale both look better integrated with the car.
It's very refreshing to see you reviewing an Italian car, especially the Giulia! I really like the exterior design and it looks fantastic in this blue!
I had a 2018 Misano Blue sport ti and loved it. Just replaced it with a 2020 Alfa Red sport ti and the improvements to the interior, damping, solidity and stereo (I have Harmon Kardin in both, 2020 is noticeably better) are all greatly improved. Love the car!
Really nice review, I am also the lucky owner of a 2019 Veloce 280hp model, in blue montecarlo colour. Great car to drive, every time you reach your destination you cannot wait to jump in the car again, that after you turn your head after it at least 5 times as you walk away:-). Really glad with the decision made over the traditional german competitors.
This week a guy made a huge mistake in traffic I had to brake hard, I forgave him instantly because he was in this Alfa and not in the typical German cars.
Best car in its class. Best car I've ever owned (in 40 years). Only real complaint with mine, and it can clearly be seen in this review also, the fender well gap is a little excessive in the Q4 version. Especially for such an otherwise sleek and beautiful car.
However, a small digital screen is a plus. Otherwise it's hard to adjust the speed appropriately in front of a radar. The difference between 95 and 96 kmh is €90 in certain countries.
Hi Thomas, another great and objective review, I watched the previous one several times when doing the research before buying my first Alfa Romeo. I bought the 200 HP petrol version 2 months ago, the one you also recommend and I can say I love every moment I spend in the car. It is a perfect choice for me, I can go to work, bring the family from A to B with style but when I finally get out of the city then it really comes to live.. Driving it is really fun, the direct steering , the superb suspension, the always ready to rock engine changes one's navigation preferences and you start to prefer routes with more curves :D I knew the - for me minor - compromises I made when buying the car. You also mention the somewhat smaller legroom in the backseats, I find the shape of the hatch is not optimal when you try to fit in more (even cabin) luggage, consumption can rise up significantly in city traffic. The one thing you mention but I didn't recognize is the overreactive steering, except in strong crosswinds, where other cars can also behave frantically. One more thing I only realize in city stop and go that it is hardly possible to stop the car smoothly - it really doesn't want to stop at all :D All in all, It was the best decision to go for the Giulia, this makes boring city rides acceptable and driving in the countryside a fiesta. It fulfills everything that you'd expect from an Alfa Romeo: style and driving fun, a great interior and stunning performance under the hood, I caught myself looking for weekend programs for the family in the countryside just to find an excuse to get out of the city and drive :D
@@Cliffracer46 Yes I bought it new. The parts have a premium feel and touch everywhere it matters, everything you touch during driving are manufactured of high quality materials and in good quality. The steering wheel, doors, door handles, climate control knobs all have an excellent feel, even the much criticized infotainment knob has a good touch - I guess it was improved since 2016 without waiting for the facelift. The styling of the interior is for me the most beautiful available in sedans anyhow (the designer who integrated the screen into the dashboard should be crowned :) but the leather and the stitching makes it even more stylish and exquisite (as the family council vetoed the sporty black interior I preferred, I've chosen a business look with Montecarlo blue and walnut package with beige leather). But as some reviews point it out there are some less obvious places where quality is less premium. The hood opener e.g. as Thomas mentioned, is not a massive piece, the boot door doesn't feel massive either, you probably read about the infotainment (which is nicely improved in the coming facelift) but that's all I found in 3 months. You might have a bit more premium feeling in german cars overall (you can simply feel the decades they've put into development) but in return you get a more boring and less stylish interior in an Audi or BMW. As for the technics there is even less that I would like to see improved. Only BMW gets close in driving fun but no other car gives you a comparable feeling when driving. The suspension is simply the best I've seen in this segment. The Giulia goes in curves like a train. Despite the superb stability in curves it can swallow bumps and potholes (and there are a lot of them in Budapest) like a boss. I have 18" alloys maybe the 19" is a bit stiffer but these ones perform amazingly in curves AND give you comfort in normal traffic. I drove a Volvo previously and I felt a pain in every pothole I didn't manage to avoid. The Giu just flattens out any road without loosing grip. The ZF gearbox performs really well, if you pick the magic D mode then it is also very quick, in N mode I still use the shift paddles in rare occasions, because the car jumps even better if you prepare the right gear in time (or maybe just because the shift paddle is simply fun to use :) But again in normal driving conditions the gearbox is so fast it will fulfill every need. The engine is strong from low revs already , 200 HP is enough for every situation (and much of it comes early) be that going from A to B or occasional fun driving in the country side. It is suprisingly quiet for an Alfa too - I could get used to more engine sound too... Wind noise is ok (though there are better isolated cars on the market) until 170 kmh then it starts to gets louder . Minor detail as I mentioned above is that it is hardly possible to stop smoothly at the traffic light. I'm learning how to decrease the push on the brake a bit just before stopping.but this should be improved IMO. The only thing I really cannot understand is the missing ability to switch off traction control. It is one thing that there is hardly any situation you would want to do this but in controlled environment I can imagine that some Alfa drivers want to have some fun e.g. in a snowy parking lot. It needs really extreme conditions and the magic D mode to get at least 2 seconds of drift out of the Giulia. The other thing is that I was already in a situation where the only chance to get up on a snowy road was to switch off traction control and slowly work up my way with spinning wheels (ok it was a front wheel drive an RWD has probably lost already when you stop). Now so far I can say the Alfa managed every challange flawlessly in the first snowy week (and belive me, road cleaning in Budapest hills is not especially quick) and there were a couple of steep hills I managed without any problem. Maybe Alfa says when a good winter tyre is not enough it is time to take out the snowchains... So all in all I really love this car, I made a lot of research before buying it and it was the perfect choice. If you don't want to drive a car everybody else does, you love to drive and you don't want to miss premium interior and style - there is no other option. This is my first Alfa Romeo so I'm not a real Alfista yet but as it stands I will quickly become one...
@@Cliffracer46 I realized I didn't answer you last question. Regarding tight streets, the RWD has suprised me with short turning radius, I managed to turn in places where I didn't expect to manage it
I'm 1,85m tall, my brother is roughly as tall as me and owns a Bmw 3 series. When i sit in the back behind him, the available room around me looks more or less the same as in this car. It's a D segment after all, not an E.
Every petrolhead has a soft spot for Alfa Romeo and it seems the Giulia is a real contender these days, particularly for those who want something different. I owned a GT years ago and it certainly wasn’t faultless, but it wasn’t a total disaster either. Mostly it was little silly things, apart from suspension issues that is. The interior quality was actually very good on the whole, soft touch dash etc. The seats were an issue for me: too narrow on the hips and legs, which meant agony after driving a while. Beautiful looking car though. I just hope the dealer service has improved since then. I’d certainly look at a Giulia if I was in the market for a sports saloon, even though I’m a big fan of BMW these days (though not their latest styling). Great review, great car (in a great colour🚙😉😁) and great scenery. Bravo, Thomas! Happy Christmas to you and all the Autogefühl team 🎅🏻🎄
Autogefühl yes that’s right, there are a lot of example of model year cars that are called facelift, as you said on the video “you can call it a facelift even when the styling isn’t updated”.
Mind: no - this is for true for any car over 20k euro. If you pay this much for a car (over 40k), at least get something fun and cool like this. So this is more "mind: yes" than most cars which cost more.
With regards to paddle shifters: my last 2 cars had/have them, but I very rarely used them. Usually, I put the car or the gearbox in sport if I want to drive more aggressively, but usually the gearbox knows better and does its job.
Nice car, fun to drive. Attractive shape, great colour! Shame it's so cramped in the back - and quite pricey on the UK configurator, especially if you want some extras (adaptive suspension, BLIS, ACC); and I couldn't find a HUD, a heated steering wheel, 3-zone, memory seats, all fabric seats... At 21:50 - phew - what happened! Great scenery - and a slippery looking road! Excellent video and views looking forward. Many thanks Thomas. Greetings to Jonas.
+Alina Lindt - Hi, I do not own, or have been in this type of Giulia - lovely car - but at 17:15 Thomas finds it not so roomy, and it looks like a low looking seat base, with knees raised. But you are lucky to own such a nice car, with great character. Cheers.
john collymore it’s a compact sport sedan, not an SUV. I’m 5,7 and got no problem fitting:) Seat height can be adjusted accordingly, it’s not that complicated. I like that it’s not stretched at the back - that makes a car more maneuverable. If you ever decide to get a Giulia, go for a Giulia Ti Sport (or better) an AWD (Q4) with an active suspension and a soft damper function. Totally different driving experience and unbeatable comfort. I am very happy with the car except the leather seats. FCA should switch to cruelty-free materials (like Tesla and others) or at least make them an option for customers who care about animals and environment.
I really wish that there was a SportWagon version of the Giulia, I'll tell you, more people will be interested and will make more people buy the car, a very neglected modern car which deserves more attention for its personality. I don't understand why FCA had to cancel the SportWagon... Love this channel!
Because it’s a sports car that is made by the same maker that designed the Ferrari 458. It’s supposed to be an entry model to race/dynamic level. The thing is that you don’t take into consideration that the wagon would add and extra 200kg maybe to the car. Then you have the longer axel and all the problems that come with it. You need to understand that a wagon is not a sports car. Next thing you’ll try to do is the same every second BMW Wagon owner tries to do and that is to use it to race cars specifically designed to have sport/racish dynamics. I hate it when people that drive these wagons try to race me every time they see a sportscar on the road. They put themselves in danger and their families (because in 80% of the cases they are driving someone, have an improperly secured load in the back and so on). So, no you don’t need an almost race car that is a SportsWagon. You have Volvo for that.
@@asleekgeek What about the Audi RS6 Avant? Porsche Panamera Turbo Shooting Brake? Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake? I could go on and on but what im trying to say is, is that they need to at least fit in a market, and that they will buy more of that variant. Now, I can't confirm of people have died from a high power wagon. But the name "Sports wagon" has been used by Alfa since the early 80s, and I just wanted to see them bring back the name for what is known as the fast, stylish, Italian wagon.
Nice to see Thomas being critical about quality, as always. I hope Alfa takes note - they should have let you beta test the car before releasing it!! ;-)
The quality of the Giulia is really good. Its probably the best quality car Alfa ever made together with the Stelvio. Even german cars have more technical issues.
We eat healthy food most of the time but there is that day when there is the lust for the fast junk food . Same with Alfa . We buy those quality faultless German saloons most of the time but on a given day an Alfa with all its drawbacks becomes the choice . Nice car
@@dylandiabolik5750 We have a household of 4 German cars including a 2017 BMW . Only the Mini Cooper had minor issues but Alfas are known to be so fun yet very unreliable . Any car can have faults . If you car had some it doesn't mean all BMWs are faulty .
@@doublefault8850 According to UK's what car? reliability survey (2017) of 14,000 car owners of cars up to 3 years old, Alfa came in 5th after the usual Japanese cars, except Honda, which came in 6th. Audi came in 12th, BMW 17th, VW 22nd and Merc 23rd
@@dylandiabolik5750 Do you really believe those surveys ? Media is biased sometimes . I have a Giulia of 2018 model. I love it because it has a beautiful and cool design, on top of that agile steering response makes me feel fun to drive :-) Whereas the quality of interior parts and infotainment technology have some rooms to improve, comparing to German cars. *PROS* Exterior design, Cockpit + steering design, Driving + engine feeling. *CONS* Infotainment technology, quality of interior parts especially control dials.
sean oliver I haven’t had a big trouble except a battery. Fortunately, Alfa Romeo dealer in Tokyo acknowledge the unreliability of their battery so I could have gotten a brand new battery replaced as warranty.
@@beanie687 if you think Alfa is unreliable then you live in the 70's. Alfa ist not more or less reliable than any german car (especially Volkswagen). If you wanna know: i own a Giulia Veloce 280HP for about a year now and i had no single issue in 30.000km, a friend of mine had to sell his 40k€ Mercedes after 8.000km because he was worried about his pocket after the warranty is over. I hope this answered your question. AND same thing with japanese cars, dont think german cars are the only reliable cars on this world.

@@beanie687i took german cars for comparison because for most of the people german cars are unbeatable in that. I know, Alfa messed it up 20-40 years ago but since the late 90's you don't have to worry about that more than in other cars.
I have and Audi A7 and a Q5, but have been looking at the Guilia ti Q4. I can't imagine not having AWD in my cars. Especially one that I will be throwing around the curves. Will I be disappointed with this car, coming from an A7?
I cracked the windscreen on my Giulia Quadrifoglio by adjusting the rearview mirror with one hand and slipping the screw! I was convinced someone had thrown a bottle at my car overnight by the tech knew straight away!
@@autogefuehl I did join your channel, you do a good job commenting. I appreciate it particularly because I am in a process of finalizing specification for a '21 Giulia I will soon order. Was almost set on Veloce Q4 with 210HP diesel, but your comment about turning circle cast some doubt for me. What is your opinion regarding the standard seats vs. sport seats in leather. Thanks.
I own a Giulia Veloce (the same petrol version as in the video) since May 2018. Always drive in D mode and I'm definitely not driving as I should at my age (lmao): average consumption is at 10 liters / 100 km. My previous car was a BMW Z4 with 185 hp and I did pretty much the same (with minus 100 hp). If consumption is an issue, this type of car ist not the one you should buy. There are enough Hondas and the like on the market that do that job better. Those customers are really not AR's target group. Discussion closed.
Can you compare it now after you have driven Alfa Giulia Veloce with G20 330i ( I have allready watch original review from 2018) in terms of drive, steering feel, acceleration and overall feel while driving. Danke
Saving light! Someone's a trance fan maybe? Anyway, kudos to Alfa, they heard the reviewers/clients and fixed what was wrong. For some might not be enough, but for me, with this "facelift", it's now the best in class. A good balance between analogue and digital inside, a beauty outside and a exciting driving machine. Cheers.
Hi, At the press launch inItaly, the launch versions were in an amazing Junior GT Ochre Yellow colour, as Alfa-Romeo have no real market presence anywhere, despite them being truly great cars; WHY DON'T THEY WAKE UP AND RELEASE THIS COLOUR TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THIS STRUGGLING BUT INCREDIBLE BRAND? If you have a press contact at Alfa-Romeo; please ask them? Great review
If Alfa Romeo have nailed the reliability and quality issues then definitely worth a look...and remember German cars are not as reliable as they make them out to be...
I would love a Guilia but only with a massive discount or perhaps lease. I def. want to test drive one & I hear amazing dynamics. The newer Supra (2021) is cheaper than the GV and going to have similar power.. so it's a tough decision if you don't need back seats.
At 19:15 what is with the speaker not being protected by some sort of cover? Isn't the Harmon KArdon system supposed to be premium? If it is, please protect it.
Hallo Thomas. Lg

Good fair review. I test drove the 280 veloce in 2018 and thought it too smooth, boring and too conformist, ended up going for the VW Scirocco R 280 as it was raw and characterful, especially the power delivery and exhaust note. It is incredible that Alfa Romeo came up with such a flimsy device to release the hood . If only they could have a look inhouse where the humble Fiat Punto has such a sturdy device and seamlessly done to open the hood from inside the car, What a shame
nowadays really no point to manuals, because this automatic is so bloody good one, it was different thing 15-20 years ago when automatics sucked big time
Andys This is an idiotic take, manuals offer a sense of connection than automatics can never replicate. You obviously don’t have to get one, but you can’t rationally dismiss their market altogether.
No AWD currently in the UK (except Quadrifoglio) so many of us who do big miles in poor road conditions, which are common in much of the UK for many months can’t give it serious consideration against an xDrive or fwd/awd Audi etc.

One more thing I only realize in city stop and go that it is hardly possible to stop the car smoothly - it really doesn't want to stop at all :D
All in all, It was the best decision to go for the Giulia, this makes boring city rides acceptable and driving in the countryside a fiesta. It fulfills everything that you'd expect from an Alfa Romeo: style and driving fun, a great interior and stunning performance under the hood, I caught myself looking for weekend programs for the family in the countryside just to find an excuse to get out of the city and drive :D
Great customer report! 👌
Did you buy it new? How is it technically? Do the parts feel cheap, or well made? Do you have any problems in tight streets?
@@autogefuehl Danke, danke :D
@@Cliffracer46 I realized I didn't answer you last question.
Regarding tight streets, the RWD has suprised me with short turning radius, I managed to turn in places where I didn't expect to manage it
These are great vehicles. I own one and am very happy with it. Great review Thomas.
Good review, shows Alfa Romeo is listening to their audiences.. Great to have a car with a difference, now for the new QV😏
The mechanical Alfa is other level❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm 1,85m tall, my brother is roughly as tall as me and owns a Bmw 3 series. When i sit in the back behind him, the available room around me looks more or less the same as in this car.
It's a D segment after all, not an E.
New bmw 3 series is better
Best car in class just became even better.
You''ll forgive me Thomas for skipping directly to the driving part! 10/10 review. Happy holidays to you and the whole team!
same to u !
Merry xmas!
Thanks for the review! The facelift is coming in 2021, I think that this one is just a new model year (but with an updated interior)
Well u can call every update facelift or not, just depends :) but we ll keep u updated!!
Autogefühl yes that’s right, there are a lot of example of model year cars that are called facelift, as you said on the video “you can call it a facelift even when the styling isn’t updated”.
👌
Mind: No.
Heart: Yes!
Mind: no - this is for true for any car over 20k euro. If you pay this much for a car (over 40k), at least get something fun and cool like this. So this is more "mind: yes" than most cars which cost more.
Wife: "hmmm ok" so im getting mine next week!! :D
So the headlamps are actually better than LED !
All versions of Giulia are wonderful to drive.
where the hell you need led lights anyway, if you live in Europe we have street lights here anyway.
I'll definitely be jealous of the steering but I'm glad I have a Monza red Giulia that is no longer available.
With regards to paddle shifters: my last 2 cars had/have them, but I very rarely used them. Usually, I put the car or the gearbox in sport if I want to drive more aggressively, but usually the gearbox knows better and does its job.
Thomas waking up his kids every morning holding that microphone:
“Good morning guys, this is Thomas with Autogefueeel”
😂
Nice car, fun to drive. Attractive shape, great colour! Shame it's so cramped in the back - and quite pricey on the UK configurator, especially if you want some extras (adaptive suspension, BLIS, ACC); and I couldn't find a HUD, a heated steering wheel, 3-zone, memory seats, all fabric seats... At 21:50 - phew - what happened! Great scenery - and a slippery looking road! Excellent video and views looking forward. Many thanks Thomas. Greetings to Jonas.
👌
“Cramped in the back”? I have a Giulia Ti and have no idea what you are talking about. 😂 Both exterior and interior are awesome and functional.
+Alina Lindt - many thanks for the info. Cheers.
I really wish that there was a SportWagon version of the Giulia, I'll tell you, more people will be interested and will make more people buy the car, a very neglected modern car which deserves more attention for its personality. I don't understand why FCA had to cancel the SportWagon... Love this channel!
👌😎
I hope Alfa takes note - they should have let you beta test the car before releasing it!! ;-)
because hes german guy
The quality of the Giulia is really good. Its probably the best quality car Alfa ever made together with the Stelvio. Even german cars have more technical issues.
We eat healthy food most of the time but there is that day when there is the lust for the fast junk food . Same with Alfa . We buy those quality faultless German saloons most of the time but on a given day an Alfa with all its drawbacks becomes the choice . Nice car
Faultless german cars? Seriously? Don't be ridiculous, I drive a BMW and it's everything but not without faults!
@@dylandiabolik5750 We have a household of 4 German cars including a 2017 BMW . Only the Mini Cooper had minor issues but Alfas are known to be so fun yet very unreliable . Any car can have faults . If you car had some it doesn't mean all BMWs are faulty .

Good video and good landscape!!!
I have a Giulia of 2018 model. I love it because it has a beautiful and cool design, on top of that agile steering response makes me feel fun to drive :-)
Whereas the quality of interior parts and infotainment technology have some rooms to improve, comparing to German cars.
*PROS* Exterior design, Cockpit + steering design, Driving + engine feeling.
*CONS* Infotainment technology, quality of interior parts especially control dials.
How's the reliability?
sean oliver I haven’t had a big trouble except a battery.

I own a Giulia Veloce (the same petrol version as in the video) since May 2018.

Actually it’s almost the same one as in the Ferrari 458 I think, even the seat ( the sport version and the materials used - it’s almost entirely made out of carbon fiber and aluminium)
And the separate winter tyres I have are 17” much thicker and narrower. I think they just got it like that from the dealership for the test
Another great review, Thomas! Quality control of an Alfa. ThAt’s one reason I am still keeping my c63s 🦅🦅🇺🇸
is this in Austria?
The rear view camera of my 2012 F30 has a much higher resolution... But that's about my only complaint ;)
So Alpha refuses to make a 340i/S4/3.3LG70 competitor with this car??!
what ???????????
there is Quadrifoglio version that trumps all of those cars u mentioned.
Where is it? This Veloce, that couldn’t outrun a bmw 330i?
Idimi Dodjimi the Quad is a M3 AMG competitor bro ....you catch my drift?
to bad all press cars have that dull black interrior, just driven one with those lovely beige interrior - one has to love that car. It is such a nice relaxing place to bee :)
Oh is the beige interior also available without leather?
@@autogefuehl no, but why would you want to be without leather?
Italian made leather seats last ages - my seats in the delta are 10 years and 277km old. Not done any special cleaning still look stunning, no cracks or false color... Same i can say abou the eige seats on my previous alfa 156....200k km... nothing wrong with them.
Thanks for the reply! I used to buy leather seats as well before I learned how cruel the industry is and how much harm is involved for animals, humans and the plant :( Then I went in-depth on the topic... check out what the leather industry is trying to do:

@@autogefuehl well well.... i see your point, but you are driving a car with a petrol engine... a high powerd too.... but ok fair point :)
i dont buy new cars and drive them.for at least 5-8years so i guess i inflict less harm lhen guys buying new every other year...
Has nothing to do with the engine actually. Indeed buying used cars is more eco-friendly
This or a 330i?
compare it here: ruclips.net/video/iKHxuvG-X9g/видео.html
This! Where I live (german Alps) the performance of the Giulia is better than 330i xDrive with M Packet (I have a Veloce Ti Q4, 280 PS). Of course both are amazing cars, but when I tested them in the "Deutsche Alpenstraße" the Giulia won. My Giulia is new but before this facelift, and has the lack of the Infotainment. However, for me it's not important because I had a similar Infotainment in a BMW Serie 6 GC from 2014 and I hate so many screens in cars 🤣
that's a proper Alfa part right there @ 9:25
9:40 yeah, it's important to have the engine latch handy to show your "friends" ...
At the service facility 🤣
And Thomas blue
Handling might be influenced by the tyres! Especially in winter
More horsepower is always better.
