Black out your windows at night. Again burn your wood at night.
First have 5mil black plastic to cover all your windows and fire up the chimney after dark only!!

When I grew up I was taught to survive. We grew up in the Nuclear Age, we learnt survival techniques and how to do nany things, like light fires, make candles and lamps out of what was around. The skills are there for those who have switched off the TV and taken back their minds and lives.

We will have to change our sleeping habits. Going to bed when it gets dark and getting up when the sun comes up worked for hundreds of years. We will be telling our grandchildren about how we had a tv that we could watch late into the night. Campfires for special occasions and cooking will be the light.

Our ancestors worked from sun up to sun down. Gardens, animals, cleaning, canning, whatever it took to survive Get as much home canned and you won't have to worry about a refrigerator.

Hi JR. Although, my area didn't lose power, the news mention over 10000 without power. S FL recieved 13 inches of rain with steady 35 to 50 mile an hour winds, with gusts above 60.

Thank you JR for your Survivalist Updates. I remember years ago they predicted a second ice age freezing weather in the very near future. Solar for your electric devices without conveniences is the option now. Wood burning stoves for heating and cooking in cold weather, holds the fuel cost down. Only time will tell. Lone Bear.

I just had a transfer switch installed for my dual fuel generator. I'm working on a stand alone solar unit in my work shop with a set of panels and an inverter I have to connect into the transfer outlet. I'll buy a few deep cycle batteries to start, then expend the system next year
I think that a total blackout of lights and cell phones would be Gods gift to America!!
I think it is important to know how long you need to power your refrigerator/freezers. My research shows that if you are not continuously opening/closing doors, a refrigerator needs to run on a 1:4 hour ratio whereas a freezer's run ration is 1:8 hours. My plan is to try to only open the doors towards the beginning of the 1 hour run cycles. If you feel these ratios are too low, you can always adjust. But not continuously running generators/solar batteries, you can extend your stored power options by quite a bit.
How do you determine when the cycle begins?
One important thing about solar generators is that they keep noise discipline, where a running fuel generator advertises to all that it is there, kinda like saying steal me, so don’t forget generator security when running especially in a crisis!!! One should consider building a generator house in the backyard, far enough from the house, so as not to worry about the Carbon Monoxide poisonous gases it’s exhaust gives off, with a cement base, and steal ring, so you can chain your generator down, vented so the generator can breath, but covered from the elements.
JR, if I had multiple solar generator units, I would emp proof the best and newest, not the oldest.
I have just gotten a nice one and once I get it tested, I'm going to build a faraday csge for it. For now it is in my detatched garage where there is no power, so it should be at minimum emp risk for now. Thanks again for what you do!
Great informative video! Kickstarter and sales are lovely when it comes time to buying solar stuff. Used them to invest in an AC200MAX and Everfrost cooler. Both of these have been useful on several occasions, including one last month. Had lost power in my kitchen and had to wait three days (happened Friday afternoon and nobody would be out until Monday) for an electrician to get out to my house to fix it. With having these two items and max to near-max of solar input to go with them, I kept the kitchen functional. You never know when something will happen and you find yourself needing things like these.
Check out the BioLite stove! Cooking from sticks superheated with it's own self charging fan and will even charge a cell phone. Had for several years and works great!
Noce video JR. I also have an Eco Flow Delta Max w solar panel. Great unit. Fyi, I think the whole home gensets can also run on propane. My dad has one with a dedicated tank which should provide 200 gallons of fuel. Don't forget oils and filters for you gennys.

Hello, I also have a generac. It was a very good investment for short term, I agree. I also have a kerosum heater, and Mr.Buddy propane heater. I live in upstate NY. A one day ice storm knocked out power for thousands of people, some for 4 days. We never know what is going to happen here.

Rocket stoves can be made from 4 identical sizes of wood wired together with the inner corners cut out. They will burn for hours.

How do you feel about kerosene heaters /cookers?
He has endorsed their use in past videos. Of course with a strong emphasis on the safety concercns of bringing any flames into your home. Not the least of which are protecting them from rambunctious kids and pets, the extra ventilation required along with CO moniters.
For myself, I have 4 kero lamps and a 10,000 btu heater. That combo won't totally heat my house but my goal is to keep my pipes from freezing. At max use, they will use about 6 gals a day and I only have 7 gals on hand, so I need to upgrade there. At least kero does have a good shelf life of about eight years, I hear. That's pretty good, except I'm not sure how to rotate it out other than by using it.... My heater isn't really designed for cooking too, but it could be called on for some small scale water heating and with the right pots and pans, cooking too, but I'm not depending on that and have other resources for cooking. I hope that's helpful to some degree. Please, before buying and using any kerosene fed units be sure to read and fully understand their safe opperation and also learn about using and obtaining the proper fuel for them. Be safe out there.

JR. I just have to say this. "You are the "smartest prepper on you tube! I so appreciate all of the tips and ideas you share". Your videos certainly make me think about what other things I need to add to my preps and some things I should have not bought. I have a question , I have a solar generator and a Honda 2200, inverter I have not even set the Honda up. ( lots of trouble for me). My question is this, Can I use the gas generator to charge the solar generator or should I sell it and invest in more panels and another solar generator? TIA if you have time to answer. I regret I followed some of the wrong "preppers". They have mostly become "salesmen" now. : ( I appreciate that you do not have commercials in your videos! Great video!
Hi Margo! An inverter generator should work well for recharging a power station. I prefer to have both panels and a fuel-based generator for keeping it powered up. Panels can be used as the primary method, while the gas generator can be used as a backup.

These solar generators are still a bit out of reach for most.
While I can't say the solar generators are cheap, they are becoming more affordable. I bought one last summer after almost two years of skimping and saving. By watching sales, I saved $500 on a $3,000 unit buying it during an Amazon prime sale. So pick out the one you want, start saving and when you get close, watch for sales. These upcoming black friday sales are looking pretty good if you are ready for it. Good luck to you!
