- When Morehouse cancelled football this season, our coaches were forced to think outside of the box to make sure we continue to use dance as our vehicle of expression. So we decided that a virtual season would be the best way to do that. We present to you the first episode of our virtual season.
The summer of 2020 has been wrought with injustice and pain. If you are a follower of our Instagram you know that we are not new to standing for the rights of Black people and Black women in particular. The case of Breonna Taylor has been a theme in our posts. The Black Woman is the most disregarded disrespected, and forgotten human being. After the unsettling news that the family of Breonna Taylor would not be receiving justice for the loss of her beautiful soul, this performance is dedicated to her. She is not just a hashtag. She is not just a trend. She is a human being who was taken from this Earth from the unsettling evils of police brutality.
This project is meant to illuminate the Black woman, and how she is transcending force. There is nothing that we cannot achieve. And as Spelman women, we are invoking our choice to change the world by using our artistry for the fight of Black women everywhere. To all HBCU Dancelines: The fans are looking for creativity for the 20-21 season. For example: Introducing the Team videos, Alumnae dancers and current squad member Collaborations, Showcases, on campus performances. Collaborations with other dance teams on and off campus are highly recommended. We are asking all Dancelines to Dig Deep to come-up with Creative Pieces that show Versatility. The young ladies from Performing Arts HS, High Schools with Dance Programs and others from Studios that put on Productions should be fully utilized during these times. This is a great start in addition to the mcdt virtual coming out video.
