I always love a good embroidery update! Wow, I want to read Dolly’s book as well Good Material, and sounds like one you won’t stop thinking about it. Sounds like she captures raw emotion and human vulnerability in an incredible and genuine way. And yeah that is something it feels like we can’t do much about the phones!! Doppelgängers sounds good!
Thank you so much! I started to get tempted to stop embroidery and get into felting flowers onto sweaters but I am trying to stick with the embroidery for now 😅
Love your finished embroidery project! Your autumn leaves one is delightful, too! You've probably already thought about painting dabs of leaves on the path. Maybe a few birds as well? Wood would (!) be a gorgeous medium but not the right scale. Or a bench with wood slats? Or a few little stones?Easier said than done (for me, anyway). Looking forward to your progress! Forgot that I mentioned NetGalley embroidery books I've enjoyed which you may, too, if you can get them in Spain. One is Beautiful Botanical Embroidery by Alice Makabe. I will look through NG for others. I haven't read any of the books you mentioned today. But I've read some wonderful ones lately, too. November was a stellar reading month.
Birds are a great idea! I didn't think of using paint for the leaves on the ground but that might be an interesting way to mix up the mediums a bit. A bench is a good idea to add something to the path but I'm not sure how to replicate the wood look. Thank you! I will look up the Alice Makabe book! What was your best November read?
I have a copy of Darker Shade of Magic on my shelf and, like you, don't like the thought of reading it and waiting around for the next book - so I'm holding off until I can get my hands on book 2 and 3. I am not a big fantasy reader, but I do enjoy V.E.Schwab. I just read Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg (author of The Power of Habit - also good). I think you would like it. Your comments on Doppelganger reminded me of it because a later section of the book talks about how people with polar opposite ideas about gun control were able to have real discussions and actually become friends even though they didn't agree on that issue. Lots of great stuff in that book.
Yes! I really prefer binging a series to waiting ages between books. I have Supercommunicators on my list! I put it on my list after stalking your Goodreads 😅 I really appreciate anything that helps people have meaningful conversations or promotes understanding between people that have very different ideas.
Great wrap up! Love the autumn leaves! - Okay so I still have Glorious Exploits on my TBR but it was interesting to hear your thoughts. I was going to try it via ebook (usually I do NF as audio, F as ebook) but I will try it as audio per your recommendation. - I looooooved Good Material. I don't think I had read a lot of breakup books and idk, I listened to this one in audio too and the narration + humor was so fun balanced with the heartbreak and angst. It will prob make a best book of the year for me! - Listening to you talk about Doppelganger made me want to pick it up again.... I DNFed it earlier this year at like ~20% b/c I felt like the connections to Naomi Wolf were kind of tenuous at best, I didn't really like the concept of doppelganger as her central theme. But it seems like she touched upon way more than this....
Thank you so much! I would love to hear what you think of Glorious Exploits. I don't know if it was a timing issue on my end or if the book had more issues then I could pick out. The audiobook did help to get the Irish accent! Good Material was great and I am so glad you enjoyed it as well! I do think that the weakest part of Doppelganger was trying to tie it back to Doppelgangers the whole time. It wasn't a perfect book but it was very thought provoking for me so I was so glad I read it. It did end up all over the place on topics.
Good review as always and yay for finishing the embroidery! I have an arc of Glorious Exploits that I've been meaning to get to, so I'll be curious to see if I feel similarly to you about it. I've been debating reading Darker Shade of Magic because I hated The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue so much that I wasn't sure if I wanted to read Schwab again.
I have started and given up on The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue a few times but have never actually gotten through the whole thing 😅 I would love to hear what you think of Glorious Exploits! I still can't really tell if there was something wrong with it or if it was just my problem that I couldn't connect with it.
I would love to hear your thoughts on it. It was so hard to film the video because my thoughts were so scattered. I filmed it once and it was all over the place. Then I wrote notes and filmed it again. Still couldn't quite get my thoughts together 😅
I'm curious about Good Material because it was making all of these Best Books lists, but I'm not into romance! Even some literary romance is too much for me, but I might pick it up based on what you said
Yes! When I saw the title of your video I thought you had read the same book for a minute 😅 I don't think Wolf really counts as a doppelganger but she did manage to talk about lots of literary doppelgangers as well in the book!
Very interested in whether Doppelganger touches on consumption and climate change, since Ania and I are considering reading one of Klein's newer works next year, after buddy reading No Logo, and finding it so rich for a CLimathon discussion! Seems like themes are all over the place!
The themes in Doppelganger were all over the place but it did touch on consumption and climate change! That has been such a focus of Klein's and I think she couldn't avoid it in this book. There are so many good topics in the book for discussion even if it is a bit scattered.
I'm sorry Glorious Exploits didn't work for you! It will probably end up being one of my faves, but I also see what you are saying about it. I saw the book in a slightly different light (seeing the humanity of people with whom we are at war, if that makes sense), so the issue you had may not have stood out as much to me.
Glorious Exploits doesn't sound like a book for me but I'm loving the googly eyes. 😂 Does your library have books in English or do you have a different way to get them?
My library hardly has any books in English so I have 2 library cards from the US. Luckily I can use them to borrow e-book and audiobooks 😊I usually have 20 holds going at a time 😅
I read Naomi Kleins book doppelgänger but honestly that title didn’t really fit. It was so misleading. The book was interesting and had some very good food for thought but the two Naomi’s are not doppelgängers at all. They virtually have nothing in common except the same first name so I think a different title does the book would have been more fitting.
I do feel like that was the weakest part of the book. She kept trying to bring it back to doppelgängers and it didn't always fit. But there were so many ideas that made me think and that sparked discussion that it was worth the read.
Glorious Exploits is on my priority list, you are the first disliker I've seen! That is a bummer, but gives me some things to be aware of and set my expectations going in. Doppelganger has only become even more relevant, yikes! It provides so much to think about.
I hope you enjoy Glorious Exploits! I may have picked it up at the wrong time or something because it just didn't work well for me. Doppelganger was so interesting!

Thank you so much! Good Material was a great book! I think you would really like it. It had that lovely balance between humor and insight
OOh, I love the landscape embroidery! I think it's a success! 💖
Thank you so much! I started to get tempted to stop embroidery and get into felting flowers onto sweaters but I am trying to stick with the embroidery for now 😅
I cant get over the cover of Glorious Exploits lol, great vid
It is an amazing cover 😂

Really good review of Doppelganger, I'd like to get to it soon!

I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you get to it! I struggle to enjoy romance as well but managed to like this one 😊
Weird that we both read doppleganger books, although I don't think Wolf counts as a doppleganger 😆

That makes a lot of sense! I think the book may have been a case of wrong book, wrong time for me.
