Hi there, My name is Steve. I am from Edinburgh but now live in Fife. Thought i would share some of my experiences with you. I lived in The Castle from 1996 till 2000 when i served in the Army. I stayed in what is called The New Barrack Block although it's not new. Goes way back when it was a Hospital for sick Soldiers. I never liked going downstairs to our Mess. Always felt a presence there and indeed witnessed exploding Lightbulbs several times behind our Bar. On Greyfriars, i walked past it one afternoon down to the Grassmarket on Candlmaker Row and whilst at the bottom of this street i had the most horrific feeling of what i can only describe as evil.I felt as if someone was trying to becon me in through the metal fence. Very scary experience. I did walk back slightly to see who was there as the feeling was so strong i thought someone was there and being a Military Police Officer at the time i thought someone may have needed to be confronted. I looked through the fence and saw nothing but a large set of steps. The feeling disappeared. If i am ever there again i won't walk on that side of the road. Very overpowering. Thanks, Steve.
Very very interesting there is a old church down there, which had been turned into a clinic for drug addicts, now sure how long it had been one , but i can agree with u theres a weird feeling , its also an awkward spot to get any sunlight as its in a sort of summit.
I went into the Southbridge vaults when I was in Edinburgh and you could feel that there was a presence, I have never been one to believe in that stuff but thought a tour like that would be fun. But standing in those vaults, it was just so eerie and the air was so dense, I can't even describe it, but since then I 100% believe that ghosts etc. exist. Definitely recommend going there if you're into spooky stuff
The bruises and scratches is from under the South bridge in the vaults. Happened to me after the tour went back to the hotel and had four scratches down my back. Very strange phenomenon.
As a uni student my son led guided ghost tours of Edinburgh including in underground tunnels -- until a pregnant woman saw a ghost and fainted. They had to carry her out, get her to the hospital and that was my son's last day on the job. Too dangerous.
Scotland 🏴 is the most amazing, stunning and beautiful place I have ever lived in my life. The people of Scotland 🏴 are the most helpful and loving. The water of Scotland 🏴 is the best water I have used. It’s my dream to come back to Scotland again 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'm Scottish and think Edinburgh is wonderfully gothic. Parts of it are very old. The castle was built around the 10 hundreds and ofcourse has been added to through the years.
I'm Edinburgh born & bred & in my opinion even through the day Edinburgh is a very beautiful gothic looking city, sure we have some places that's not so nice as do all towns/city's but it's number #1 town to visit in Scotland for a reason. The history of Edinburgh is so rich &although iv lived here all my life I love seeing people get excited when visiting our town👌👀👻💀
definitely has the eerie feel at night, went on one of the underground ghost tours, only saw part of the southridge vaults, but it was very quiet and spooky!
Years ago i went to Mary Kings Close. Just before we got to a certain part I could smell cattle dung very strongly, my daughter who was with me could not smell it, asked the guide and he told us they used to keep cattle in the net building he was going to show up. Up to that day i had never been there or read up on it.
I'm going here soon and heard that this place was spooky. I enjoy the idea of a good ghost story but I'm also a wuss (weird combo I know). I really enjoy how you had a more upbeat tour of these haunted places. Thank you for this!
Aw, so glad you liked it! Edinburgh definitely has a spooky vibe but if you're gonna be around for the summer months it will be less so because the nights are actually really short up north around that time .)
I visited the grave of Greyfriars Bobby in 2000 with 2 friends and we got a couple of photos taken. After I got them developed i noticed that the ghost of the dog had appeared on my jacket in the pic and you can see the little apparition on the negative as well.
I would not recommend going to Greyfriars at night...a little sketchy with the homeless guys and the junkies there, and there is definitely an ominous feel to it.
I never knew you could come to this cemetery whenever! At first I was like 'whoa, cool' immediately followed by 'not that I'd like to come here at 2 am, no sir' ... >__>
How brave to go on Greyfriars Kirkyard after dark, I think I would be to scared for that! When we were in Edinburgh last week, we experienced something strange: we went around, passing Norloch house. For a moment we just stood there at the fence, looking around an making jokes about the hugh amount of ghost stories belonging to nearly each corner in Edinburgh, when suddenly a strange noise appeard, just like a strong hissing sound. Admittedly, we were a bit frightened and walked away :D It did not sound like a cat, and we hav to say, in Scotland it is more likely that it was a ghost, lurking on us! I googled the Norloch place after that and find some gruesome stories about it...uuah! I also wanted to thank you for the great Video! :D Speaking of the topic: maybe it would be cool to see, what's going on in Edinburgh on Halloween, what kind of things the people are doing and what food is popular in this time of the year etc. I really enjoy that kind of stuff ;) A lot of greatings from Germany! :)
Oh wow that's one spooky experience! Good things you weren't alone, haha. To be honest Edinburgh doesn't really have THAT much going on for Halloween, which is a bit of a bummer, but I'll keep my eye out and if there's anything exciting going on in 2019 I'll try my best to make a vlog about it! .)
Really? That would be so nice! :) Oh, I would not have thought that there is not so much going on. I heard, that there is a kind of procession or parade at that time, people gathering and then walking up Calton Hill (or was it Arthurs Seat? I don't know), carring torches, making weard stuff..but maybe that was something else and not Halloween - I'm getting really confused by all this stories, haha!
I'm going to Edinburgh in a few months, so my watching this technically counts as "research". Great video. I'll have to check some of these places out.
Interesting question - I'd guess a big part of the concept is that everyone can tip based on their own financial situation and level of "impressed-ness" by the guide. So it's hard to give a specific number! I can't imagine any amount will lead to the guide being offended as long as it comes with a kind word. Personally I'd probably be thinking around the £10 mark if I enjoyed the walk (about an hour long city centre walk that is), or £15 if I thought it was absolutely amazing?
