On a small farm, in the dense thickets of burdock, mother duck found a cozy place to build a nest. She began to wait when the chicks hatch. One sunny morning, the eggshells cracked, and tiny fluffy ducklings appeared. There was only one egg left, the largest, which did not want to crack. The duck began to worry that something was wrong with him. She sat down again, and decided to wait a little longer. Mother duck gave away all the heat that she was capable of. She thought that this chick should be the most beautiful, since she has been hatching him for so long. Soon, a nestling hatched from the last egg, but it did not at all look like the other ducklings. It was much larger, and its feathers were gray. Mother duck was upset when she saw such an ugly son. But she hoped that someday he would become like his brothers. The remaining ducklings laughed at him. They considered him ugly, and did not want to play with him...
