      @@hakunamatata6488 In order to make any actual money on interest you’d have to have a LOT of money in the bank, and if it is in the bank (for the average person with little money) there is the risk of spending it on things other than what it was intended for. In this case there would be a risk of over drafting which would cost a lot more than the interest you would accrue keeping it there. If it’s tucked away for each specific bill/purpose and deposited as needed it seems it would be a lot easier to manage.

    My parents were born just before the Great Depression when all the banks shutdown and all monies were lost. As a child, I watched as my parents together sorted out his pay into labeled white envelopes... mortgage, utilities, car, groceries, taxes, insurance, school (8 kids). They paid bills in person...no checking account, no credit cards. Both died debt free with prepaid funeral and burial plans. Times have changed...

      My parents did the same and managed to send 3 kids to college. Mom would say to us it doesn't matter how much you make it matter how much you keep. Another was if you can't afford to buy it than you don't need it. Credit is only for those who can afford it. Pay in cash or you will be a slave.

      I knew a lady when I worked as a teller at a bank. She worked as a waitress at a big hotel (at the time) in Toledo. She started saving 50c a week. Once she had 100$ she bought a bond. Then started saving 2$ a week. Within a few years they had enough to put a down payment on a small bar. Long story short, in her life time she became more than a millionaire. This was in the early 90s that I knew her. She never bought stocks. She bought bonds, usually hospitals, and rentals. All of that started with 50c a week. (Realize that 50c a week was actually a lot in the 40s).

Made grocery list and stuck to it, but made weekly menus. No stopping for drinks or chips. Took water flavors and peanut butter crackers from home with fruit 🍎 It became fun seeing one hundred dollars grow to 150 to 200. It was a game and the stress was removed. If I had to go to some place I made a route and got rid of unnecessary trips. Budget included items also like household cleaning supplies etc but I looked out for sales. Before you know it I had quickly saved over 10,000. Comparative shopping etc even if on SSI or Disability or Food Stamps you can do this. Just have to structure a bit differently 😊😊

I give myself saving goals and dates and when I reach them I get such a rush of satisfaction! it also makes work so much more enjoyable when I can literally count each day and hour as a monetary figure knowing that by day's end I am that much closer to the goal!!!

      Yeah, especially putting in the $100. When we needed to save up fir something like car repair or new appliance, we sold things we no longer were using regular and we put ever $1 into a jar along with coin change. If it was a larger amount needed we put in $5 and we went on a No Buy time until we had what was needed. We only use cash or old fashioned checks. Yes stores and businesses still take checks. 😜

    My problem is, if it’s in my bank acct I spend it. So I bought one of those money binders and when I get paid I pull out some of what I have left after bills are paid, and put it in the binder. Any cash gifts I receive.. goes in the binder. Less tempted to spend when it’s not available to me when I’m out and about.

    • @ASMRGRATITUDE
      @ASMRGRATITUDE Год назад

      It's about saving money before you spend it.
      The average human treats their money differently when it's in cash money versus debit card/piece of plastic.
      (Ever wonder why all the casinos have switched to having plastic cards?)
      Anyhow doing a savings challenge like the poster is helps people save for a big goal like a car or Christmas presents or vacation etc.
      If you have limited funds you can also do a smaller goal like save up for a spa day.
      Everybody's dreams are different.

    This just seems like a waste of money and time and also risky to have all this cash in one location. It is more financially logical to put this in a high yield savings or to invest it in an index fund. Cash gets cheaper the longer u hold it. This seems more like a hobby than a practical saving strategy.

      Get 100 envelopes, write numbers on each 1-100, each week pick two envelopes e.g 5 and 46, add the amount of money and mark off on your card until all envelopes are filled, adds up to £5050 or $5050 depending on what currency you are using. 👍🏾
