boysrepublic bts The becoming nice part is what makes it scary. Aoba makes Mikado realize just how fake his own niceness was and Mikado makes that awareness, along with his practiced ease in putting it up, known. Fucking glorious.
At first I was like "Oh yeah, Mikado's cool I guess. He did make the Dollars after all" then after watching this scene I was like "Whoah! Did he just!? Yep, he just climbed the ladder of my favorites with that little stunt of his".
I think this is just a glimpse of his true nature. Notice how quickly he reverts back into his "kind naive senpai" persona? He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Izaya once said that Mikado scares him.
Spade Krauss Agreed. He definitely has psychopathic tendencies and I think in the manga -which I haven't read- Izaya or Aoba says they think his cold dark-hearted "personality or persona" is the real him. Which I have to agree with. And at the end of the anime it seems pretty evident.
That's the brilliance of his character. He's so good at pretending to be the weak, shy kid he appears to be, but when the need calls for it, Mikado can show just how terrifying he can be.
Shy Girl When I saw this scene when I first watched DRRR I was genuinely surprised like "What! Holy shit, Mikado what the fuck!? 😲 by that point I was already even More hooked to DRRR than I already was for sudden turns like that lol. And while he's not nearly my most favorite DRRR character like Izaya, Shizuo or Shinra, I related with him the most in the series cause let's face it we all one time or another wanted to escape the torturously boring monotony of being "normal" daily human society and be something... well... different, extraordinary even. But there comes the heavy price of sacrificing all your basic morales if you actually want to live that kind of dangerous life like Mikado shows here. Anyways just to repeat myself while Mikado is more like my #5 favorite in DRRR! he's the most relatable to me :)
I mean, Izaya with Izaya's current voice actor is still the best though. And I'm happy with the other voices so.. I'm glad they made it that way in the end.
The Grey Crow Being badass doesnt mean you are a good character. Badasses are overated. If people make too many badasses, then they will stop being that. We need more peasants to balance the equation.
Asan Ali Well, I suggest you read the manga/ his own light novel. He is the most complecated charecter in this whole show, they just don't show that in the anime.
Izaya sure is cool. He is one of my favourite characters aswell, but stands right next to Celty and Shizuo. Omg I love Celty! Am I weird if I think Shizuo is a funny character?
The cutest thing is that his dark side is as genuine as his timid and caring side. It makes Mikado hard to figure out, imo. Makes me wonder if Mikado even understand himself.
It's still speculation but the novels and manga hint that his "timid and caring side" is just an act and that in this particular moment we saw the real Mikado.
The people we pretend to be tend to be just as real as the us underneath. Mikado isn't pretending to be nice the entire time for power, or anything like that. When he wants power, he stabs people with pens. He acts nice most of the time because he genuinely cares about the people he seems to care about, and is content to be happy with them. It's only when the inner mikado has his sense of identity challenged and the situation calls for not being passive anymore does he start stabbing people with pens.
The thing about Mikado is that he was always crazy like this. Remember season 1 when he assembled the Dollars and handed pharma their shit? That entire plan was him pulling strings. The reason a 'normal guy' can be at the heart of everything in Bukuro is because he ain't.
Yeah I'll admit I thought this character development only started in Season 2 when I first watched it. But I rewatched last year and I was surprised to find out, when it comes to Dollars, Mikado was always like this, when he faced Namie in X1 he was cold and calm as fuck, and he helped Anri escape the Yellow Scarfs just by sending some buttons, both occasions were done on a whim, on the spur of the moment, and were him completely set on his goal just mere seconds after hearing the situation. In X2 he's now ambitious, he needs more power, so he has to step up his game. I always liked Mikado, I never understood why people found him lame back when there was only S1 but damn, after my rewatch, he's definitely in my top 5.
@@deuce5546 i think you also see some different sides of Mikado just when he talks sometimes. one specific scene early on in episode 5 with Masaomi, Anri and him when Anri first talks about Harima where Masaomi mentions how interrogative Mikado is and then when Mikado basically "sees through" Anris lies and tells her rather coldly "its cheating to tell people all this. it sounds like you are trying to make someone forgive you. trying to surpass harima is the right thing to do."
He is really an interesting character. Later in the anime when Izaya told mikado that he is the one who told kida his identity as dollers leader, he thought that mikado will hate him but mikado surprised him by keeping his innocent attitude. Really what a character.
Tbh I wish he would kill and since talks in this anime as far as I’ve seen are seek so a talk with all his friends saying why he chose to do it and their reactions that’s what I like seeing
People be saying this was his character development. Though I don't blame I too thought this was character development, but on rewatches I realized Mikado had always been like this. Remember when he contacts Namie to meet in Ikkebukuro's passing and turns it into a massive Dollars meet-up? Not only that but he controlled everything that happened that night, with a bit of Izaya's help but it still went like clockwork. And when Celty went crazy and started wrecking havoc who was the only one unimpressed and just started walking away to avoid being noticed? Mikado had always been like this. Izaya tells him then that he will grow bored of Dollars, Celty and the crazy life of Ikkebukuro and he will want to move on to the next thing, which sounds like a normal advice until you realize someone normal wouldn't ever get bored of the things Mikado has in his life. Mikado's fatal flaw is his boredom, it's why he created Dollars, it makes him act up on some irrational actions to spice up his life, he suspects it himself when he helps Mika escape Celty. The clues were there from the beginning. The true character development is when he realizes his daily life that he hated before has become something of his liking and now wants to protect it at any cost. And this hipocresy and self-contradictory behaviour is the reason of his more self-deprecating and cynical personality in X2
@Hailen Ace No. He genuinely started respecting Mikado for having these two sides of him. If Aoba really disliked the fact that Mikado did this he wouldn't have held off his gang members when they were going to intervene and most likely beat Mikado up. Also Aoba smirked while holding up the bloody paper saying that this is the contract.
There's something I just can't shake about this kind of character; Mikado is one of the more interesting examples of a certain trend of protagonist villains, following very closely in the shadow of Kumagawa Misogi from Medaka Box. There's something about the stereotypical blank slate shonen hero that fits so damn well into the anti-hero personality slot. It's why so many Hero Aca fans want Villain Deku. The kind of character who'll refuse a drink because their underage, and then break the bottle to threaten someone's life. All with an innocent smile on their face.

"An introvert guy at home"
The anime was a good adaptation but you guys should read the LN if you have the time. Lots of things were left out and overall the story was just soooo good. Durarara SH (sequel) has been on hiatus since 2016 so that saddens me. The new characters are really good though and i hope it comes back
_dsmith23 Same. But the sad part is that some people aren’t going to read the sequel because Izaya isn’t in,which is sad because there’s a ton of interesting characters in Durarara, but most of the fandom either ignores/hates a lot of the characters smh
Neptunia Monster have you read the spinoff with izaya as the mc ? "A Sunset With Orihara Izaya"
_dsmith23 Heard of it, but I haven’t read it yet because idk if it’s fully translated yet
sigma grindset mikado
And right after that hes all casual saying sorry about that wound, but worry not. We have bandages and shit. Lmao
青葉の独白がほしい
I remember when I first watched this scene, entirely shocked the shit out of me! Durarara!! Is such a great show!
2 things to say:
1.Imagine a cover of a future Drrr SH novel having the four manipulators Mikado, Izaya, Aoba and Kuon(he's an Izaya wannabe) all together.
😱💛💀🔥
2....It's gonna sound explicit, but what if Mikado actually has a big **** making some of the other guys jealous?!😲
Everybody in the back just went 👁👄👁

I thought by this revelation he gain some power boost and turn to be badass manipulator like izaya. But in the end he still physically pathetic

Went from sad boi to bad ass
Out of interest am i the only one who wishes we could have seen more of this side of him in the anime
Definitely not. We get to see a snippet of his breaking point-- honestly, it would've been a lot more interesting to see this side of him brought out.
Oh well, he is still an adorable child even if he becomes evil. I refuse to remove him from my "Cinnamon roll anime character list"!!!!
みかどさんかわいいって思ってしまった

Never underestimate an introvert
Remember when Mikado was a your typical nerdy and dorky High Schooler, and now he's a God damn Sith Lord, what a transformation.
Dude was the durarara's palpatine to begin with.
