why do i choose to spend half hour of my saturday night getting stoned drinking rum and watching 2 men try to make guess who an abstract strategy game while my partner sleeps? its pretty mint though, and sully. I am a very angry person but sully just makes me calm, thats weird.

I think it might work quite well cos it's a fairly lightweight board game with a bit of a party game feel and results in much silliness.
CLASSIC SUGGESTION - Cluedo but using only your memory (no notesheet or notetaking)
I like the idea that if you kept playing this with the same friends on and off for years you’d keep making deeper and deeper inferences about these characters until you had really quite intricate back stories for all of them

I played this version with my brother, I guessed his character solely on his reaction to getting the card. So yeah you eventually build personalities and how people interpret them.

If you're going to use subjective qualities it kind of makes sense to play co-operatively, otherwise an opponent intent on winning could just answer randomly and make it impossible (which wouldn't be much fun for either party).

@@TheJamesM It's also a lot more dependent on the two players thinking similarly about cultural tropes - their answers say WAY more about the players than the little pictures, but as long as they're on the same wavelength, it totally works!

I feel like the key issue with the is italian food exotic to them question was that I believe Sullivan was answering "Is your person so white they think Italian food is exotic" whereas Adam thought he was asking "who are people who legitimately would be unaware of Italian food and be introduced to new culinary horizons with exposure to gnocchi?"

I feel it's somewhere inbetween for how Adam was asking. There are legitimately a lot of people who think anyone who has the decency to cook for themselves is pretentious (or are unimaginably lazy), and insist on takeout/etc. for every meal, and unless you live in a major city, you probably don't have a very exotic variety of foods in your location, so those people tend to have a microscopic food diversity.
It's less that they don't know the existence of other foods, and more that that's literally as far as their diet has ever gone, imo.
Italians are white though? If anything people of other ethnicities would think Italian food is exotic. Pasta and pizza is super basic for basically all white people.

@@Mrsuperdestroyermaybe its different in Britain (where I assume these guys are from), but in America, most of the "Italian" food we have here is not authentic and if the average white person from the American mid west were to go to an authentic Italian restaurant, they absolutely would think of it as exotic.
When my daughter was like 7, we played guess who and her go to question was always “is your person a jerk?” 🤣

This would be a really weird case study in obscure stereotypes and people judging by looks. Like I’d love this with real strangers and seeing if they, one. Guess the right person and two. I think it really depends on how well the people know each other, these guys obviously know how the other thinks, so they can base the questions and people off of that, so that would be interesting to test as well.

I brought this idea with me to my junior rehab, and we allowed ourselves to specify certain answers rather than just “yes/no”. Early questions were “would they call you a slur in a Walmart parking lot?” or “Do they believe in crystal healing?”

@@diavolosteddy7594 I didn't like not being able to know why they made specific judgments on the characters. It felt like I was missing something and found it more interesting to know what motivated their decisions and how close they got to the right answer.
I watched it with knowing one during each round, I knew about Rachel, Liz and Ben. Best of both worlds! Not having a clue if it’s right one and dreading the right one getting flipped down.
I love how many of these questions were basically "how white are they" or "how old are they"

I think the best part is that you have to make your decisions NOT based on what you think of the person, but what you think your opponent thinks of the person.
the fact that you announced that people who want to play along should close their eyes, its so wholesome. i love this kind of wholesome energy, those small things that make people smile with not much effort but its just there. im eternally greatful for people like that in this world
I don't know where you're from, or whether there's an equivalent tradition there, but here in the UK at least there's a long history of Saturday afternoon's football (soccer) results being 'censored' in just such a helpful fashion on the BBC.
By the time the early-evening news broadcasts came on, most or all of the day's games would have finished, so the sports section of the broadcast would likely cover the key outcomes from the big matches. As a courtesy to those wanting to view the upcoming late-night highlights show _Match of the Day_ (or similar) without knowing what happened in advance, though, the presenter will tend to say something like "...so if you don't want to know the score[s], look away now" - and then flash up the results/live scores silently on screen for a few seconds, before resuming the broadcast a moment later.
So anyone brought up in Britain in the last few decades will quite likely have had that sort of mentality ingrained into them from an early age - and hence it's sort of second nature to quietly warn viewers to cover their eyes for a few moments while the reveal is being made!
@@Somnogenesis yep. It was always one of those things that you just know subconsciously. Some people want to not know and feel like they're there in the moment. And letting them takes very little energy but could mean a lot.
I just loved how they actually did them separately though, incase you just wanted to play along 'as' one of the two. That was the cherry on the icing on the cake.

In a way, it’s not just about asking the questions, it’s about thinking the same thing as the other person. It’s slightly co-op.
This version of the game just has that little bit of Mean Girl gossiping and I love it. This would be great for a party after a few drinks. With Mean Girls Guess Who we could be mean to people who are dicks without consequence. Please play this version again.

In older versions of guese who the majority of the characters were men with brown eyes and brown hair. If you got the woman with blue eyes and white hair you were pretty much boned.

For me she seems like someone who grew up in a very white and cis/straight community and therefore has a lot of prejudices against "others" but then becomes very accepting once her grandchild comes out as queer or dates someone who is not white.

I like that in this game not only does the answer matter but also how fast and excited you say it.

I like asking the personality questions, rather than physical characteristics. Obviously ask the answer do they have red or orange hair, which immediately would knock down the selection to a few people. Of course it would be hilarious if you ask are they a Karen or are they internet troll car lot because both anyone can be both.
