- In this weeks video I continue my solo adventure along the Trent and Mersey Canal towards Middlewich for the Folk & Boat Festival (Middlewich FAB). This is one of my favourite festivals and I have traded as the Pirate Boat at it for many years. Middlewich is very welcoming as a town to boaters and visitors. During the video I show the boaters gathering and the joys of working as a full time Pirate and Roving Canal trader selling from my narrowboat. I also met lots of lovely viewers of the channel - thank you everyone!

5:02 now that I can zoom in 8x on these RUclips videos it’s great. I’m only watching on my phone screen, and zooming in on that lock gate made it really easy to see that “big hole” (giggidy) there.

Love the channel keep up the good work. Only discovered the channel a few days ago and am catching up on the back log of episodes and was going to wait to comment but couldn’t help myself when I saw the Tasmanian couple in the video. My other half and I moved to Tasmania around 14 years ago and are looking at buying a boat back in blighty and doing the same over the next 10 years or so - it’s a small world. Happy cruising.

Highlights this week for me the sawhorse (I've been trying to figure out how to make one so ideal to get a screenshot!) & at 10:30 mark: the expression on that gentleman's face; priceless!
I noticed that guy when I was editing it all together 😂😂 the saw horse is currently packed away so I can’t get a photo …. It does fold into itself which is great but still takes up a lot of room … I’ve currently got it stored under my bow until autumn 😂

Hope to get there with "Hazel" next year. It used to be a regular fixture for us but we missed in 2019 because of being stuck on the Rochdale with collapsing locks, then there was the pandemic. This year we've been struggling for lack of volunteers.

2:01 you need to borrow from the stakes that high alpineists use - a stake with a flat spade like surface used to secure tents in snow.
They damage the banks I’m afraid which is why we can only use mooring pins

Looks like a good time. Good to see people making music. I liked your tune. I don’t remember that title. I had missed two session night from being sick one week and soaking in a Hot Springs the next week (life is so tough) but last nights session was great. Today I worked in the hot sun for 5 hours. No smoke to blot the sun. Over 80F which is very hot on Alaskans. Sitting on my screened in front porch now with my guitar in the shade with the temps just right. I’ll play you a song. Take care

Great video. I would like to mention your pins. Not the ones you walk around with but the mooring pins. I got a good look at those stubby little things.
They look short, is there a specified size?
4 foot long would allow hammering standing up, deeper penetrative in soft soils and an empty can could be placed on top.
This would allow others to be warned of the trip hazard.
Sounds like you had fun.
The mooring pins tend to be a set depth … anything more would damage banks … you only need to cover the pins if the towpath is really really narrow and I tend to use a plastic bag in those cases 😄
