Impressive density for a city the size of Richmond, however downtown needs a "signature" tower 600'---800' tall to serve as a focal point. BTW, is the old John Marshall Hotel still a hotel?
I think it is still a hotel but can't tell for sure. Yes. It would be nice to have signature building on the center but it is still impressive. Thanks for your input.
I agree. I never get to go into downtown Richmond. I live in Manassas, and it’s all small pockets of high rise buildings. Tyson’s and Arlington (Roslyn) are getting built up in the decade I have lived here.

I like Richmond, but their state capitol building is pretty underwhelming. It would be attractive as a museum or court building, but really misses the mark.
Maybe it is not huge but still represents. I liked how it was exposed and surrounding areas.
The Virginia Capitol was designed by Thomas Jefferson after the Maison Carree, an ancient Roman temple in Nimes, France. It was finished in 1788 and was the scene of Aaron Burr's trial for treason in 1807 as well as home to the Confederate Congress during the Civil War. The Virginia Capitol is a masterpiece of Neo-classical architecture and is the most beloved building in the Commonwealth of Virginia. A Capitol doesn't have to be big to be grand.
@@hudson5112 It's a nice building just not worthy of being a capitol. We were at Monticello last year. The second floor and interior of the dome were very unimpressive. The exterior is fabulous. So, I would not give Jefferson high marks as an architect.
@@markrichards6863 According to a 2007 American Institute of Architects survey (of 2,214 people) to determine "America's favorite architecture" only TWO state Capitols made it onto the list of top 150 favorite buildings. Virginia's Capitol was top ranked at #50.

@@hudson5112 I disagree. My personal favorite is Connecticut and Pennsylvania. My least favorites are Alaska, North Dakota, Ohio and Oregon. Virginia's capitol is a good looking building, but not as a capitol. Have you toured Monticello. They do extended tours upstairs now. The first floor is great the second floor is very spare, like what you would find in a typical colonial residence but bigger. And that dom, on the inside is just a storage room, not visionary in any way.

City hall destroyed the city. Now you can walk down the sidewalks and randomly see homeless peoples exposed genetals as they urinate and laugh at you while you walk by. You can see a gross lack of police presence becausethe city refused to support them but did attack them for public approval. You can see the beautiful graffiti put on your buildings remain there even though you pay taxes to have them removed. You can enjoy a rain tax along with a 50% plus tax increase in the areas that have working class home owners. You can enjoy their grass police charging you whatever they feel like because you skipped a grass cutting although thry have buildings falling down filled witj trash and tall grass. You can enjoy the liea you receive from city hall referencing your concerns. You can watch the grass police hand out tripple the citations whwn its time for election. Yes, come to the city of richmond and watch city hall take it from the sewage hole they turnes it into and further degrade it.
