My experience with the e61 tailgate wiring is if one wire breaks the rest are not long for this world. Once the can of worms is open just replace all of them. I used silicone sheathed multi strand tinned wire as the original wire becomes stiff with age and there lies the problem. Four years after replacing and no issues. If only if I could get stiff with age😁🇨🇦 Thanks Mark
Thank you very much for this clear explanation, Mate! I just did this…well the other side because my was to investigate why my Diversity Antenna wasn’t functioning. In a very similar fashion, I found it to be the red and white thin wire which supplies power to it was snapped in half in but in a very similar place to your broken wire. There’s a guy with German video very easily explaining how to test the power supply to it with a simple volt meter. I wish I had watched that too before buying a replacement Diversity Antenna! One small tip for anyone doing this was that my wire ran up the other channel where you have to take the clamp off the hinge to the glass opening rather than the whole tailgate. When you are taking that part off (two 13mm nuts and a small 8mm bolt) DO IT WITH THE GLASS OPEN! With it closed the hinge is under tension and when you take that last 13mm off the thing flies off at high velocity! Ask me how I know! Luckily, I was in the way or looking at it and it didn’t hit anything because it could have done a lot off damage! 😮 The most fiddling bit, I found, are those black metal covers over black over the wires….and, of course, it took the wrong off first and only realised that once I’d painstakingly and carefully dissected the loom open in the roof. It was easy to get disoriented. But, all seems to be working well again and I have my locking on the key etc back ! Thank you! Subscribed
Very helpful, and a much abbreviated version versus a lot of the other guides that were written. Where did you find the wiring diagram to identify which wire to look for? My problem is that the entire boot won't open, the soft close mechanism works but the latch itself won't release. I prefer your approach of just fixing the broken wire vs the others who cut and replace all. Thanks!

Thanks and I’m glad this was helpful. I think it is crazy to cut and join at both ends new wires. You are introducing sooo many joints to a vibrating, dusty and moving situation.
yet it works whereas before it did not. I repaired all 11 wires on the left most of the 4 looms and it fixed the hatch door latch not opening. but now I need to fix the remote control. I know it's in one of the other three looms, but I don't know which one and I don't want to do all 3 if I don't have to. Do you know which loom is wired to what?

Can anyone explain to me how to disconnect that blue connector from the speaker? I tried to pull it out but it was impossible. I didn’t see a safety thingy I need to press to prevent it from disconnecting unwanted. Please help!

I may need to mess about with this, my rear window stopped heating up and had issues with one of the reverse lights stop working from time to time
