What never ceases to amaze me is that not only is Arjen a brilliant composer but he also manages to consistently recruit the best of the best to perform his work and they all seem to have a blast doing it.
I saw an interview with Arjen, and he said he scours the interweb for new talent. That's how he came across Britney Slays from Unleash the Archers. He saw a video of her doing karaoke. He also only wants to work with people who aren't in it for the money. (Even though he pays them handsomely). He can usually tell when people are faking interest, so that leaves him with a bunch of talented people having fun

Welcome to Ayreon live ... it's a rare occasion, and he just recently announced a new one, but they sell out fast that they don't tour. Argen rarely appears on stage, he claims stage fright, but Joost van den Broek (keyboardist from Floor's first band - After Forever) pulls the band together and is the arrangement mastermind for Arjen, so he's the on-stage director. These are the finest musicians in the world, as you can tell. Welcome to "Arjen's Angels" - Marcela Bovio, (closest to camera) incredible Mexican-born vocalist in the band MaYan; Lisette van den Berg (ultra high range in center) amazing vocalist from Scarlet Stories; and Floor's "little" sister, Irene Jansen, another incredible voice of an angel. She's actually an inch or two taller than the goddess we know and love! Every song is amazing from these shows, and widely different from the last one. If you want something melodic and folksy, "Valley of the Queens" features Anneke van Giersbergen (Godmother and inspiration of Female metal singers) from The Gathering; Marcela Bovio (explained above) and our favorite and only Valkyrie, Floor. It's short, so you might group it with another choice to make a two-fer! You simply could not have smiled bigger or brighter - You looked like you were having as much fun as they were. Don't use the live version because it's very tough to play live and they've only done it a couple of times. I've only seen one other reactor do it, a couple, and they loved it. It's neo-prog, but gorgeous ... and it's long, but most great songs are - 14:31. The Eye of Ra features EVERYONE. The whole cast comes out to sing together. Intergalactic Space Crusaders has a ton of energy. And for something very different, Ayreon - Daniel’s Descent into Transitus Medley. This is a spectacular music video featuring Simone Simons (Epica) as the Angel of Death, Tommy Karevik (Kamelot) as Daniel, Marcela Bovio (MaYaN), and Caroline Westendorp (The Charm The Fury) as the Furies .
Okay, I had a bit of a moment when I realized that Tommy Karevik and Hansi Kurish were singing at each other, two of my all time favorite male vocalists.
Tommy Karevik's (singer with short dark hair) band Kamelot is a blast to watch and then his wife's band Kobra and Lotus is a great one also. Oh Kamelot's keyboardist and lyricist is Oliver Palotai who is Simone Simon's husband. I swear all these bands have a connect with each other. Other than having music I am willing to listen to.
Typical Rock Opera... a lot of interaction between characters and awesome music. Hands down, one of my favorites. Arjen, you have a magnificent gift my friend!

The whole concert is amazing! I watch it all the way through once every couple months! If you want a couple great ones to listen to from there, I'd recommend "And the Druids turned to Stone" and "Intergalactic Space Crusaders". But honestly I'd watch the whole thing. None of the songs are a miss!
I concur, the whole concert is indeed amazing and every single song is a gem in its own right. After hearing one or two of them here on YT I had to buy the BlueRay of this concert and I love it. I'd suggest to do the the setlist in sequence with some 'two in one' videos, because there are some shorter songs.
The guy singing in the weird futuristic/robotic outfit is Mike Mills of the band Toehider. He's the sole member of the band from Australia. They're amazing and I highly recommend checking them out. Some suggestions of his songs: "Whatever Makes You Feel Superior", "How Do Ghosts Work?", "This Conversation is Over". The first two have live RUclips videos he performed that are really good.

It is a song of incredible musical consistency, as well as complex and at the same time delirious. A sample of what Arjen can do with music. This song is part of a larger masterpiece called "The Source" which has an exciting number of themes and tells a complete story. Both the band of instrumentalists and the guest musicians shine and shine without stepping on their egos, something that only Arjen's humility and generosity can achieve.
I like RIDE THE COMET, if you liked Maggie the woman dressed in leather. She is really good in this one, on stage the whole song. Love ❤️ the reaction and everything else.
Ahhhh I saw this pop up this morning but there was no time to watch and comment. Now I'm stuck in the triple-digits... the nose-bleed reaction-seats, lol. This song just puts such a smile on my face, ever time. Since all the 'fun comments have already been taken, I'll repeat my medical-nerd observation: WAAAAAAYYY back at the beginning, there's a little odd drum rhythm.. sounds a bit like a steam-powered/mechanical "chug--a-lug". Those of use who have spent time with a stethoscope (or doppler) can kinda hear a heartbeat in there... like the "lub-dub lub-dub" that you might here a Nurse or MD talk about. Just imagine that little heart beat being the "alien civilization in trouble" they are singing about. Lub-dub lub-dub ... and the lub STOPS right as Micheal Mills and the three AMAZING "backing" singers (HAH!!) sing the first "Every-body DIES!!!" Like, the word DIES kills the hearbeat. Someday, I would love to hear Arjen comment about whether that was his intentional or not.... it has to be.

Of course the live version. It's a somewhat darker and heavier song. And if you are interested in this concert's musicians, have a look at the song "The Two Gates", where Irene introduces each of the band members.

And also the song "Mirror Mirror" official live. "Mirror Mirror" is so fantastic that Tolkien wrote some books about it ;D. ... and I also hope you will return to EPICA soon. My recommendation for Aeryon is Intergalictic Space Crusaders from this same show. The thing with these Aeryon songs is that they do not just open up a rabbit hole, but a whole labyrinth of rabbit holes. Every artist featured is worthy of further investigation. Please also check out one of the ladies singing in the chorus line. Marcella Bovio. She is a member of Mayan and the live version of Rebirth from Dispair is brilliant. My recommendation for Aeryon is Intergalictic Space Crusaders from this same show.
The thing with these Aeryon songs is that they do not just open up a rabbit hole, but a whole labyrinth of rabbit holes.
Every artist featured is worthy of further investigation.
Please also check out one of the ladies singing in the chorus line. Marcella Bovio. She is a member of Mayan and the live version of Rebirth from Dispair is brilliant.
