  • Wilber Marshall was a Linebacker who played for the Chicago Bears from 1984 to 1987.
A converted tight end out of the University of Florida, Marshall was a three-time All-SEC and a two-time All-American. He is also a member of the Florida Athletic Hall of Fame and the Florida Football Ring of Honor.
The Chicago Bears drafted Marshall with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 1984 NFL draft.
In his second year, Marshall emerged as a star linebacker in the NFL and was part of one of the most dominant defensive dynasties in league history.
With the Bears, he made the Pro bowl twice and was a first-team All-Pro and a Super Bowl Champion in 1985. He ranks 43rd on the list of the Top 100 greatest Bears of all-time.
In 1988 he signed a 5-year, $6 million restricted free contract with the Washington Redskins.
The Bears received two first-round draft picks as compensation which were used on receiver Wendell Davis in 1988 and defensive end Trace Armstrong in 1989.
Marshall went on to play 8 more years in the NFL with Washington, Houston, Arizona and the New York Jets.

I once treated Detroit running back Wilbert Montgomery in 2004 and asked him was there any player he ever DREADED facing in his career. He said he didn't FEAR anyone but the only player that he ever questioned was Wilbur Marshall. "You always hoped you'd get hit before he ever got to you. He was deceptively fast and ungodly strong".... 😂😂😂😂 Singletary gets the most accolades on that 85 Bears team but when you ask the defensive players themselves who THEY thought was the best player on that defense?? they all say it was Marshall. His legendary hit on Detroit's Joe Ferguson has to be in the top 3 of the biggest hits in the history of NFL... Ditka actually thought he killed him when Joe didn't get up..

I know football is a business. Especially now. There’s not as much loyalty at least on the business and as they used to be, or should I say there was more in the past as far as loyalty was concerned, then there is probably today it’s mostly or more about business now then it was in the past. Thank you for the video. It made me feel good and smile as a Bears fan. I was a young kid still in school when the Bears were really good back in those days and they’ve had some good years and Briggs were the Bears. They were at least potential playoff contender, even if they missed a year here and there, but there was a streak of a few years where they were winning and made a number of appearances or at least had the chance to. I can’t seem to pull together every time they close they seem to self-destruct. They mess with the team. They have to understand that you have to have a core of players that can be consistent and the longer you can keep people together that are good and know how to play with each other just like they go out and get this guy Williams and I was a little bit leery because I really thought they should’ve kept Justin Fields and developed him more as far as his throwing in quarterback abilities, when it comes to passing the ball. As far as his skills, he’s probably better than most running backs even right now look at Pittsburgh. He’s got them off to a 3-0 start. Yet now the Bears are one and two when we were thinking at the worst, they would be two and one at this point and would’ve won their games fairly handily. But you have to develop a quarterback when they’re young and they could have all the skills but if you don’t give them a good running game and you can’t protect them with a good offensive line you’re gonna have problems, especially with the rookie quarterback coming out of college. Even if they had Aaron Rodgers when he had his best years with the Packers. He may have done better as far as his quarterbacking skills, but if he didn’t have a decent running game and had a very problematic and under represented offensive line, he certainly wouldn’t be winning so many games and throwing so many amazing passes. These things actually do matter. Like I said, he may have done better than most, but still would’ve struggled more often than not. Thank you for the video though. It at least gives me some hope for the future and it still is early in the season. I’m hoping and believing that they will find a way to turn things around Paul the general manager of the Bears seems to know what he’s doing, but there are going to be bumps along the way what a great thing it would be if the Bears could win a couple Super Bowls in the next couple years or so how amazing would that be?

The 1985 Bears truly had a magical season. Too bad they scrapped the '46 Defense.' While this year's team may not have the same defense, I'm already looking forward to seeing what kind of season they're going to have, what with all the offseason moves made by Ryan Poles, including drafting what will no doubt be the first franchise quarterback in team history, Caleb Williams. A season sweep of the hated Green Bay Packers would be the icing on the cake, especially since the Bears gave up the lead in the all time season series.

95% of his hits would be illegal in today's neutered NFL.

He was awesome. A lot of those plays would have gotten him penalized today.
