Chip brushes have natural bristles and wood handles. and if you take them, in various sizes, instead of throwing them out, distress the handles, leave the stain paint etc in the bristles and hang them by drilling a hole in the end of the handle….they look like antique brushes for decorating. Hand them on a wall or Putin a small crock.🥰
Yes, Sarah's October Home loves brushes, and they make beautiful decor.
Fun idea, thanks Kathie!
The stools turned out great!!!!! They are such a solution to seating with a drink at the sofa: small, portable, and easy to tuck at the side.
Glad you kept your coop table the sentimental value cannot be beat. Paying tribute to the original owners is a great idea. Thank you for this video my neighbor was getting rid of a stool I grabbed it and it’s still sitting in the backyard will have to get some citrus strip and work on it.
My kitchen table was from Ikea. It was a pine table top with separate legs. I had the table top Cut to size at the hardware store so that it would fit my small kitchen area. I distressed it with hitting it with chains, gouging & digging in it with a screwdriver (a great stress reliever, ha). I stained it with a brown mahogany and then put on a polyacrylic matte finish. I've been using it now for about 9 years and you would never guess it was a pine table and it really has a rustic look to it so it works perfect in my home. I'm definitely a believer and figuring out what you want and making it happen, thanks for your video!♥️
The stools and coffee table turned out great.
Sarah, the story of your home parallels to mine. I live in a farmhouse, in the city, that was built in 1917, which at the time was in the country. The family that built it, had started the first commercial chicken 🐔 farm in the Midwest. I had never considered to use a chicken crate in my home, but your idea of the coffee table, has me thinking of where I could use a smaller one somewhere. Great aging process on your pieces!
Your cat looks so happy (and warm).🙂
My mom had a chicken crate coffee table back in the 1980s. Definitely a country vibe and retro vibe too. Of course anything that makes me think of mom is a good thing ;)
I love the coffee table that carries on the heritage of your house!
Miss Sarah, Question: How did you find your "happy place" as a designer? This business can be very tedious, and sometimes you can lose yourself to others. How did you grow past this? You seem so happy with yourself and what you've achieved. A breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale business. I just love your blog! Thank you
Suzan
You might ask yourself these questions:
1. What era in history are you most drawn to? What do you find so intriguing or interesting about it? Do you find the aethetic and designs of that era comforting and inspiring? If so, how can you use certain elements of those designs to bring into your home... sprinkling them throughout your own design style.
2. What are your design values? Do you prioritize a certain feeling you want your home to exude??? Maybe "comforting" or "serene"... maybe "energizing" or "inviting"..
3. What do you love most about some of your favorite designers' styles .. try to take notes on the specific things they do that you love, that way you can do the same things but in your own way. It's better to be conscious about what it is exactly that you're drawn to, writing it down helps!
I also need to always remember why design is important. Understanding why we do it, is helpful. I design because it brings me joy and I love see a space transform into something that resembles how my Soul feels inside!!! Its like an outward reflection of your inner imagination ♡♡♡♡
Suzan, decorating is ultimately a creative process and too many deadlines and restrictions will kill creativity. Make sure to enjoy Pinterest and lots of time working on your own spaces to keep the passion alive.
Love your style SO MUCH! ❤️ Those stools turned out great, and the Swanson Chicken Farm sign was the perfect touch! Can’t wait to see what you add to furniture in next week’s video!
I love how the stools turned out. I have a stool just like that, but it’s painted black. I’m feeling inspired to give the Citristrip a go and give the stool a “new” old look. It has a few dings already but it looked fun to age it some more! Thanks for the inspiration Sarah!
Such a neat way to distress with other tools than a sander. I loved the crate! ~ Linda
I love the stools and chicken farm crate .Tthe DIY you did to does peace, to see the transformation is amazing . Thank you for the tip .
Love the black cat on white sofa
The stools look great. I love how you styled the plant on there. But I laughed, wait a minute those were for food and drink. I can imagine your family taking that plant off and outing it on the floor to make room. That's what would happen in my house. 😅😅
So much inspiration here, Sarah!
I'll be honest...I never was a big fan of your chicken coop coffee table...but NOW?! 🥰😍🥰 Thank you for walking us through these techniques! And letting us see some spaces in your home that we don't see as often! ❤️
Your glorified hallway would make a great library wall with 2 chairs. Floor to ceiling bookcase under and on the sides of the window and then a ladder on a rail. Place 2 over stuffed chairs to read and sit by the fire
Hello cherri
Stunning love the idea of following the history of your home added to coffee table .
Lowes had/has those barstools in Acacia wood from Allen and Roth. I don't recall how much they cost but we love them. Acacia wood by itself already looks like it has a story behind it.
YOU DID IT! you made the chicken coop look great, thank-you , wishing I wouldn't have got rid of mine. awesome styling and HARD work
Hello Marian
You are so talented ..... thank you for showing us all the steps. The room looks so cozy. Love your style ♥️
Another marvelous project and video - you know how I love all the “old” stuff!!
Hello there
Sarah- you are so real. That’s what makes you so endearing. You get hung up by the same things us ordinary people do. I love the projects!
Love how you adapted this area in your house. Reminds me of what our grandparents did. “Work with what you have.” Great ideas!
Fun video. Love the wax paper transfer idea. The Swanson sign looks great. Blessings.
I just found myself looking around the room for a piece of furniture to attack with my jigsaw. 😄 These projects turned out great!
The stools are marvelous. 😍
Hello Heidi
If you watch the clearance at Target you can most often get much better prices than when it goes to GW.
I just love your home! Great idea on making new pieces look old.
I love them. You are so real for a decorator! You get hung up on the same things that us “uneducated “ decorators do. You can relate. That is what makes you so endearing. I love the projects. Thank you for being so real!
Amazing👏❤️👏❤️👏❤️, that is the Best Chicken Coop ever💕🎉💕🎉thank you for sharing your technique, the wax just is the cherry on the top 😍
Love your ideas and inspiration, I am always excited to see you posted a video. You definitely spark my creativity. You inspire more than you can possibly know. I am so grateful for this platform. God bless you.
Thank you so much!
Sarah, you are such a delight ♡ and a true gift to the world ♡
Love, home your style and videos 😍
Have you thought of a built in at the window wall?
I'm sure can figure out it's layout.
Window seat with storage,
and book shelving unit on both sides of window in your glorified hallway.
What a great place to curl up with a book in front of your wood burner.
You can use a trestle table "as a dining area or just a cushioned lounging surface. Hope this helps.
Hi Sarah!
This was so Beautiful!
I have a planer lol! Now to find a stool!
I love your house so much, everything you do is just beautiful.
Love your furniture pieces. Look so good in your home.
I love how the furniture turned out. The piece of furniture your sitting on with a caned back is beautiful.
Hello Carla
Stools look amazing!
Loved the stools! And, they make the sofa look snuggled into the space, which is probably a fav spot, near the woodstove!
Everything turned out beautiful 🤗💕
They look fabulous Sarah!💝
Wow!!! Love how everything turned out!!!!
Great idea, well executed. It makes trying this non-threatening. Thanks.
LOVE the way these turned out!!!!
love the transformation! I recently used the citrus stripper to strip 20 years of layered on paint from my farmhouse table! We ended up staining and leaving it as raw as we could. Because it is a dining room table I did apply a matte sealer but it stayed pretty flat so I am so happy with it!
Gorgeous absolutely stunning results!!!! 🤗🤗
Those stools turned out great!! Also The chicken coop coffee table went up a whole ‘nother evel of cool 😍
Oh Sarah... I absolutely live how these turned out 😍 Such a good call with the Citrastrip‼️ When I first saw you staining the stool, before you stripped it, I was saying in the back of my mind.. "Strip it Sarah" lol. Great minds think alike ❤
Thank you for sharing the trials and errors of designing a space ! Sometimes it truly takes living it to learn what will work best aesthetically and function. 🌻
This technique looks so amazing. I love working with stain and wax. Also, your sweet dog looks just like my dog, Lady. 🦮 Doggie love❤️!!! I also always make sure to watch your videos I learn so much. Have a wonderful day.
Wire brush works with certain soft wood like pine.
Hello chatty
Fantastic result! Thanks for sharing.
Great job girl! Beautiful!
I just used a wired brush for aging wood, because I didn't have the wire brush end, for my drill, either. The wire bush does work, or it did for me, anyway, you have to run it the opposite of the wood grain. It brings out the texture of each rib of wood, making it sort of bumpy, and it does scratch it up some.
Love! Love! Love! ♥️♥️♥️
They came out perfect! Yay you! 👏👏
Love how the furniture came out. I was so inspired by the look, I'm thinking about doing my wooden fireplace mantle and two side tables with this technique..
Turned out perfect!
Your projects turned out so beautiful ~ I especially like the finish on the stools, they truly look vintage. You must be delighted with them! Thank you for sharing your techniques with us.
Hello Linda
Sarah! You've read my mind! I've been thinking of ways to redo furniture pieces to look aged. Thank you for the practical, clear examples, & the gutsy DIY attitude! I'm already looking forward to your next furniture video. I'd love to see a video identifying styles of furniture & practical ways to "update" say an 80's sofa to look old English cottage style. Thanks again for the hard work on your videos!
Hello there
That is fantastic! I love your stools so much and the chicken crate looks great too. I would never have thought to do such a thing to make them look older but yours turned out great. ox Julia
Love the solution you came up with the stool tables 🥰
Excellent tutorial! The wood pieces look perfect in their new spaces.
Love your channel 😍
Love these transformations! Makes me realize I can keep my eye out for things of the right size/shape and if they’re too new looking that can be changed with the right technique. Super cute sign idea, it came out great! 🐥🐓
I love your style and your ideas. The coffee table is amazingly beautiful & thank you for the wax paper hack, I’m going to try it. 💕
Really good one👍🏻💕
I love how it turned out! I'm always trying to get newer wood to look old! You always have the best ideas. Thanks for sharing ❤
Great video Love this idea. Thanks.
Fabulous!!
Really cool ideas
Love your ideas thanks!
Love love it!! And the hack!!!
Love this!
I appreciate you access each step and make sure you want to move forward. Important for me to do too. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Have you ever tried oven cleaner as a stripper? I have a friend who finds beautiful primitive pieces and she uses it to take off paint layer by layer.... I’ve used on smaller pieces, it’s a game changer for me.
I haven't tried it yet, but I know fellow DIY'ers who have used it with great success (Like Natalie from Vintage Porch on Instagram)!
Love you style
love these!
Hi Sarah, I find that all the Goodwills in the Seattle area (Dearborn, Renton, Tukwila, Burien at least) get Target cast-offs. I'm guessing that they are returns or things that did not sell. Thanks for the video.
I always look forward to your videos!! Your pieces turned out beautiful!!
fantastic
There was a weird dial up sound in the video.
Plus I haven’t seen a video of yours in my subscriptions since the summer or fall. 😳
They’ve done the same thing with DIY wife 🙁
Why RUclips why 😡
Love the Projects glad I “found” you again.
Oh no! I'm sorry about the sound not working! Did you try refreshing it?
I've also heard of people having issues with the subscription feature, apparently a fix is to un-subscribe and re-subscribe, and then it will often let you select the bell.
I hope those options help!
Seemed like a lot of work, but well worth it!
Love how it all turned out! Thanks for sharing!
I love how this turned out! ❤ You really made them look authentically aged! I am always trying to age wood in ways that I don't have to use super stinky finish.😅 So I hear you! Thanks again can't wait for your next video!
Absolutely gorgeous.
Great process!!! The outcome is great!!!
Love your techniques, explanation and videos!! 🥰
Love it!!!!
Hello Barbara
Gorgeous! Love it all!
Sarah, 8 didn't watch the other ladies video, but I'm guessing she used a wire wheel that has more of a coatse texture to the wires? I could see it working. The wire brush isn't coarse enough?
I think the wheel had more coarse wires, AND because it's attached to a drill it's got a bit more oomph to it! :)
Fan~Flipping ~tastic!!! I like the mod podge (?) transfer technique it seems a little easier and I also love water downed milk paint to use as stain. I’m actually going to try to use typewriter on raw wood as a stain to keep that grain and some of the warmth of the wood….., I just need the snow and extreme cold to stop. So inspirational I’ve learned some great techniques to age items today I’m going to incorporate them into some projects
Sooo excited for the new upload ! I struggle with whether or not I should keep a cohesive color of wood like an off white or keep a darker wood ..I love both but I have so many pieces of furniture that has some wood in it …I love farmhouse/cottage core /primitive
Love your techniques and videos 😍
Your curtains are beautiful, did you make them? I'm having a hard time finding curtains.
I did make them, thank you! There's a video all about it: ruclips.net/video/XIG32sO5NLE/видео.html
Have you tried the oven cleaner maybe that would of removed the finish?
I haven't tried it yet, but I know others who have used it with great success. It's a process very similar to the Citristrip I used!
You have inspired a redo on my side table, thanks for the heads up! Also do you have experience with oven cleaner to remove paint and return the wooden piece to a natural color? ♥️
I haven't tried the oven cleaner process yet, but I know lots of fellow DIY'ers who have with great success! It's really a similar process to Citristrip!
Is that a slip cover or throw over the couch with the lil stools? Btw awesome work
It's a slipcovered FARLOV couch from IKEA, but I also often add quilts and throws over the top to make it even easier to clean.
@@SheHoldsDearly ok thank you for your reply ..i love your style
