Great video man, your the reason i now own a 455 rancher, its a great saw very glad i bought it. Just finished cutting up 4 tons of hardwood with my farther in law using his stihl, mine did more work and used less fuel. Just spent the last hour stripping it down and giving it a good clean before she gets put away :). Once again thanks.
Sweet little saw! I've had mine for about 3 or 4 years and just fired it up last weekend after sitting for a year and it started up just as easily as yours did after sitting 2 or 3 days. I was trying out the new Oregon 24 inch bar and chisel chain I put on it. Have to say that's about all that 3.5 horses wants but it pushed it well. It is one cutting fool, that's a fact! Love the Husqy's!
Yeah 24" is quite a bit for this saw for sure! But a lot of times its good to have that extra length! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!
I am positive 100% its from Sweden, I talked to Husqvarna directly. The whole power unit is made in the Sweden and the bar is made in the USA by Oregon. I bought the Husky 455 for a number of pros over the Stihl 290. But I am sure whatever saw you pick will be a good one! Both are good units, I liked some of the features on the 455 a little better. I haven't regretted my decision.
Nice look at the saw, I am trading for one in the morning and can't wait to get it. I have a 450 now and love it. It can sit in the box for months and fire like a champ after you prime it. Runs great and easy to maintain. Thanks for the video.
Glad to here that! Its nice to hear that my videos actually help people with decisions. These things defiantly sip gas. I baby this machine. Thanks for watchin
Ill take it off when the warranty expires. I actually considered an efco, but the only drawback was there is no dealer anywhere close to me. I would love to be able to try one out! I wouldn't mind a 346xp or an ms260!
I think you will be good either way. What ever dealer supports you the best. Both saws are consumer saws, but can still hold up to daily use. Go hold both and decide which one handles better. Keep in mind with a stihl you will always have to order parts through the dealer and not online.
Yep, I like mine runs great with the stratto charging. I had to decide between the 2 too. But I am glad I picked this one. Every pro you listed is correct and works great. Husky uses a thicker chain too! Thanks!
Yes it will be below the chain brake handle. It looks like a piece of screen or mesh. you can see it at 3:20 in the video. Unscrew the screw clean or remove the arrestor. They put the director/plate back on. The mesh might slide out, haven't done one of these.
Sounds like you have a gas/carb problem. 1. Ensure you are using fresh 92 octane gas.(after 26 days its too old unless there is stabilizers) 2. Ensure your using 50:1 mix 3.I would run the gas out of it every time I use it 4. If these still dont help you maybe looking at a carb cleaning/rebuild Hope this helped if there is any questions ask!
thanks for the info! ive been using 89 50:1 and ive been running the same tank for over 2 months! haha! need to find more stuff to cut! ill let you know how it works out. thanks again.
Yes a 24' bar will fit but that might be a little big for this saw. If you do choose to go with a 24' make sure you keep it very sharp to keep engine stress to a minimum.
@ms290guy1999 your correct on the 200 series. But most Stihl saws are completely made in Virginia Beach VA.(lived near the plant) Only the very high end models are completely made in Germany.(Magnum ones I believe) And the other very low end machines are made in china like the FS45 and the HS45 Bars are made in the US, or Germany, and the Stihl Chain is still Swiss made. But the carburetors depend on the brand. Zama is china.
Yep i know. I would have gone with the 346xp if I had the spare money. Homeowner, landowner and professional are the groups. Most people don't use a chainsaw everyday so it is not necessary to buy the professorial version. I own some professional equipment and can feel the quality difference. Thanks
I do think Husqvarna makes a better saw. But keep in mind that you want a little bit of flexible/soft plastic. So if it is dropped or something falls on it it doesn't snap it just springs back into place.
good vid. question, i have the same saw and have been having problems getting it started. It takes 5 to 8 pulls to fire up with or without the choke on....im stumped. bought it used but it was/is in very good condition. run it an hr or two a month and have been using fuel with the proper mix. any help would be great. tnx for your time.
Love my 455 so far. Starts every time & runs like new. Get real 72LGX072G chains & use prem gas that's mixed right or slightly heavy. It's paid for it's self atleast 4x already. A very good investment. I take care of it so expect it will keep going for years.
Either one would be fine. Stihl has a factory in Germany, Brazil, China , and the US. Most of there lower end tools are manufactured in China. Jonsered is a Husqvarna brand. It would be very similiar to the Husqvarna 240
TBH I have never heard of the husky 240 before you told me. You are right the 240 is defiantly a poulan! The 100 series a couple years ago were poulan clones also. But I know for a fact that the 435 and larger saws are true husky saws, I had a lengthy conversation with husqvarna(and look at the cc's they don't match up) . I am surprised about your 445, Ive heard they have good power. And on a good day can out cut a 455. I was considering a MS250 at one point, there supposed to be good saws.
Well hang on here I just noticed that you are interested in the 445 not the 455. The stihl 290 is not in the same range as the 445. The 455 and 290 are in the same class. The 445 and the MS250 are in the same range. Both are good saws. But in that situation I would go with the MS250, its a little bit more proven then the 445. I wouldnt worry too much about one bar nut I have a 40 year old stihl with one bar nut and it works just fine!
Theres different grades of saws. Homeowner saws are lower grade. I had a 455, has a plastic crankcase and everything, ran well but its not meant to be a every day use saw for professional tree removal. Alot of plastic doesnt make it durable, i managed to break the wrap handle on mine. I now have a 372xp, definitely a huge jump in quality and power. For a 1/2 lb or less more in weight, you get 21 more ccs and 2 or so hp more.
I will take a Husky every day over a Stihl. I have the 450 Rancher for little small firewood jobs. I also have a Husky 390XP that is my main saw. Normally run it with a 28" bar.
How about Stihl Ms170? I live in Europe. I want to buy Stihl MS170 or Jonsered 2234. I had Stihl MS170 and it was worked great, but today when I go to service on Stihl MS170 it says Made in China-it makes me confused. What could you recommend Stihl MS170 or Jonsered 2234.?
Pulled the plug and it was caked in carbon....knocked it off and re assembled....fired up the first pull and ran like a raped ape! Lol! I will defiantly drain the fuel and run premium 92! Thanks again for the help brother!
Unless it is on the professional line the saw is made in the poulan pro factory here in the U.S. If you take apart the poulan pro 20" chainsaw you will see all the internals and half the externals say husqvarna. If you want a good husqvarna get a 272xp or 390xp
+ian “treejunkie101” martin Nope this one is made in Sweden. I personally asked Husqvarna and this was part of there response "The power head is made in Sweden, then we install a Oregon bar on the unit.". The husqvarna saws no longer clone the poulan saws. The only saws that did that were the 100 series saws from a few years back.
crazyjdkid A lot of companies say they make their homeowner line in the country of origin but the reality is they're made here in the united states. Stihl does it, husqvarna, echo, makita/dolmar. I can go into tractor supply and buy a poulan saw and pull the cylinder off and compare it to the rancher and they are the same cylinder, same crank case, same muffler, different carbs because every single company out there has 6 different suppliers and husqvarna wants people who dont know about their deals to think its different saws. If your rancher was the updated with autotune it would be a half true husqvarna. The professional line starts with the 545 which is basically a 550xp without all the gadgets. My old 142 and 136 both said made in sweden on the badge but they were rebadged poulans. If you want a good true professional saw that is made in either germany or sweden then you have to be prepared to spend $600-$1000. When you bought the rancher you paid for a name when you could've bought a poulan and drilled out the muffler, modified the carb to fit a flat head screwdriver and rejetted the saw to get 56cc out of it which is pretty good. Change out the sprocket to a rim sprocket and gear it down and you can run a full comp chain which will tear through wood
+ian “treejunkie101” martin A 142 and 136 both say "Assembled in U.S.A" on there data sticker located on the left side of the top cover. It does however say Husqvanra of Sweden on the badge signifying that the parent company is located in Sweden. This is not the case with the 455, it is fully manufactured in Sweden with the exception of the bar and chain which is sourced from the US. The Husqvarna 425 and 435 are built in the US, everything after that comes from Sweden. Of the 4 years I have own this saw it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. Nowhere did I say I had a desire for a professional saw or showed a need for one. I am fully aware of how highly rated the XP series saws are, but for someone who doesn't use it every day this isn't necessary. Whens the last time you saw stratto-charging on a poulan? And given any saw your going to not going to have 100% OEM build. Husqvarna doesn't make carbs, spark plugs, rope, etc....
What's going on man Are you familiar with older McCullough 610 saws? There is one that I can purchase for $65, it great shape. 60cc. I just bought a Husqvarna 450 rancher for $400, still in the box. In addition, the guy is selling a Homelite 14in Super 2 for $45 . Those 2 saws would be 1/4 the price of the 450? Any advice?
+Ousama Abdu umm I am not too familiar with those specific saws. But I have heard the the 610 is a fairly decent saw. Would I return a 450 for either of those? Probably not. The comfort of the newer saws far out weighs that of the old. What you could do is buy the saws and flip them, and that will give you some return back on the other saw!
Ousama Abdu yeah hell no idea stick with husqvarna, I did this for a company awhile and I did small motor repairs etc etc and these husqvarnas are just so much better than just about anything you could get. I used to use stihl but after using husqvarnas a few years I stick with them
im either going to buy a stihl farmboss 290 or a husky 445 the 445 looks muck better quality but im only going to buy it if it is from sweden not the poluar or however you spell that shit witch one would you get
Not even close my friend. 2 piston rings doesn't mean anything on build quality. It all depends on how the saw is designed, especially the cylinder coating. Many of the older Stihl saws used one ring pistons and see how proven they are? There are pros and cons to each. Most racing chain saws use 1 ring cylinder. And most dolmar saws are 1 ringed. The quality between husky and poulan is huge, even though poulan is owned by husky. Yes they have rebadged poulans in the past, but there are none now.
Ford and chevy is about as far as these saws have apart from stihl. Everyone likes what they like, I personally am going to buy a Husqvarna 455 over the MS290, the 455's seem to run faster, have a better air cleaning system, slightly lighter and a much better anti-vibe system.
I had a Husqvarna 445 right before getting my MS250, it was a good saw but meh I didn't care for it much for the reason it hardly had any compression due to the single ring. The 445 is a rebadged Poulan Pro 50cc saw, they still do indeed make rebadged Poulan saws hence the 240 model and the 440 models are cheap Poulan machines. The 455 Rancher is a great saw though that's the beginning of the more professional true husky's I think, my MS250 was a better value than the 445 for being the same size
crazyjdkid hey man, great vid on the 455. How has it held up since you made this video? What is the total hours of use if you were to estimate it? Thanks.
Pauley Wagner It still runs and starts great. Mine is generally used more randomly (tornadoes, snowstorms, windy days....~50hrs ) and not on a consistent schedule. It hasn't let me down, its started at 0 degrees just fine this winter. And pulls through logs just fine. Keep in mind though its not a commercial saw, but it is tough and dependable.
crazyjdkid Thank you for the response and the good info. I bought the Rancher 455 last week and am very much looking forward to getting it chewing through some wood.
computer stoped working for a wile but i got caught up with myself i meant 450 with the 20 inch bar i like the way it is maid better than a sthil but i need something to saw down fucking trees every day not 30 minutes to start and wont cut shit so witch one
Some people say CHINA makes the crankcase housing for the STIHL,if is that true,it is bad,STIHL has too soft plastics,i cannot believe, before STIHL had been so good saw,but now has too soft plastics,i think so.however i think HUSKY has harder plastics than STIHL.I would recommand to see one video for everyone, you should see all the video ,especially END.put the next video on YOU TUBE = STIHL MS290 REPLACING CRANKCASE HOUSING
I can't understand why people are so stupid to think that the parent company, Husqvarna, which bought Poulan out in the first place, would think the Husqvarna is a Poulan in Husqvarna skin! nowhere on this saw does it say POULAN! it says it is made in Sweden! Husqvarna has X-Torq engines and the Poulan 5020 has a standard 50cc 2 stroke engine. Husqvarna is Husqvarna. Poulan is owned by them and is just a small part of both...even if a Husqvarna comes down an assembly line from Poulan, the parts used and leadership of the product line is still by Husqvarna.
That is mostly correct but there were a few models in the past that are exact copies of each other. Such as the Husqvarna 142 or 137. All the units made now days are not clones.
Husqvarna only uses 1 piston ring on their lower end saws, Stihl always uses 2 for better build quality. Husqvarna is most of the time just rebadged Poulan products
I really love your devotion to Husqvarna. I feel the same way.
Great video man, your the reason i now own a 455 rancher, its a great saw very glad i bought it. Just finished cutting up 4 tons of hardwood with my farther in law using his stihl, mine did more work and used less fuel. Glad you were able to get it going! If the spark plug is covered in carbon I would also check/remove the spark arrestor. Thanks!

This saw makes such an awesome idling sound !
I completely agree! Its got a nice deep idle that's very smooth and consistent. Thanks for watchin!
Darn right, very good sounding saw. Got to love the Huskies.
I have a 455 rancher its awesome

@skywalke112583 thats how it was set from the factory, I left it like that in hope it would loosen itself up since its a new chain
Yep i know. I would have gone with the 346xp if I had the spare money. Homeowner, landowner and professional are the groups. Most people don't use a chainsaw everyday so it is not necessary to buy the professorial version. I own some professional equipment and can feel the quality difference. Thanks
Thanks! I have a lot more on my channel.
Done! Slides out with a bit of care...hit it with break cleaner, let it dry and popped back in.
I do think Husqvarna makes a better saw. But keep in mind that you want a little bit of flexible/soft plastic. So if it is dropped or something falls on it it doesn't snap it just springs back into place.
Stihl and husqvarna are their own brand as husqvarna does make Poulan and craftsman saws I don't know if they make the weed wackers and leaf blowers
i had ms180 2 year ago,and i sold it,it was nice saw,but it had too soft plastic,my opinion,i think husky has harder plastic, stihl is not like before
good vid. question, i have the same saw and have been having problems getting it started.
It takes 5 to 8 pulls to fire up with or without the choke on....im stumped.

Cool! You like it so far?
Will do...do i take off the alum plate over the exhaust to access the arrestor?
I would say so... It has a 3/8 chain, which is fairly large
Well hang on here I just noticed that you are interested in the 445 not the 455. The stihl 290 is not in the same range as the 445. The 455 and 290 are in the same class. Hard to tell, if I compare it to a stihl fs45 and a stihl MS180 the answer is yes. All the plastics on this chainsaw are made in Sweden.
ok i think im going with the 445 but i noticed one thing i do not like is one bolt holding down the bar how good does that do
How about Stihl Ms170? I live in Europe.
I want to buy Stihl MS170 or Jonsered 2234.
I had Stihl MS170 and it was worked great, but today when I go to service on Stihl MS170 it says Made in China-it makes me confused.

Exelente maquina husqvarna 455 torq compre una hace solo un mes y me encanta
¡Es una máquina increíble! ¡Gracias por ver!
Nice saw! About the same time I got my MS250 haha
please,if you can tell me, does husqvarna have harder plastic than stihl?
Love em. but i like many others too. But there products i prefer the most.
Thanks, The MS250 is a good proven saw!
De cuantos caballos de fuerza es la motosierra

What's going on man
Are you familiar with older McCullough 610 saws? There is one that I can purchase for $65, it great shape. 60cc.

@ms290guy1999 Agreed
great saw, but i think that you put to much presure in chain!
@crazyjdkid you are right. since is new the chain will lose in tension after cutting. put some other nice videos:))!
is this a 16" or 18" bar?
im either going to buy a stihl farmboss 290 or a husky 445 the 445 looks muck better quality but im only going to buy it if it is from sweden not the poluar or however you spell that shit witch one would you get
Nice video
455 ROCKS!!
Sure is!
Do you still owns the 455 rancher?
Yes
Warming up a chainsaw is not necessary on a chainsaw at least. It revs high and heats fast.
Its not necessary but it helps evenly warm up to prevent premature wear and tear from temperature shock.
Not even close my friend. 2 piston rings doesn't mean anything on build quality. It all depends on how the saw is designed, especially the cylinder coating. Husqvarna is the BEST!!!
please viewers if is stihl better than husky, put like=

The 455 Rancher is a great saw though that's the beginning of the more professional true husky's I think, my MS250 was a better value than the 445 for being the same size
same model used in chainsaw 3d they just painted the saw red
Sure its not a Jonsered CS2255?
nope 455 rancher painted red
your right about the stihl small end saws there terrible compared to huskys
I am not a fan of the 100 series saws from stihl. The 240 from Husqvarna is junk too.
crazyjdkid hey man, great vid on the 455.
Kodie's Lawn Service whatever
I love it!
Don't know if i said,but i got the husqvarna 435.
sure does!
computer stoped working for a wile but i got caught up with myself i meant 450 with the 20 inch bar i like the way it is maid better than a sthil but i need something to saw down fucking trees every day not 30 minutes to start and wont cut shit so witch one
watched the video, quiet interesting!
ok i think i like the husky better built better plus i think it dont cost as musch
All the units made now days are not clones.
cool!
Husqvarna only uses 1 piston ring on their lower end saws, Stihl always uses 2 for better build quality. Husqvarna is most of the time just rebadged Poulan products
i don't got money for one plus i'm only a ten year old boy man!
husqvarna is a faster saw than stihl . i know because i own both.
i am 12 and i bot one today
Be sure to buy the safety equipment and be supervised during use! These are extremely dangerous!
my dad is a feller so i have all the right equipment for using a chainsaw
i want your chainsaw!
Go out and buy one!
My oregon bar says made in china!
455 ROCKS!!
