I appreciate Kiri’s approach. There’s plenty of times I’ve had my swing portfolio (holding anywhere from 3-12, maybe 18 months) in only 1, 2, or 3 stocks. It’s simply targeting and conviction. And it’s worked super well. Sure, i also hold a long term portfolio that’s about 20 stocks, but my active swings are never more than 5 plays. Good on him, as he clearly reads the fundamentals and has a strategy. 👍

IMO, diversification is not a display of lack of conviction but a very key part of risk management, together with appropriate sizing of each position. There’s no way one can predict black swan events, which can be exogenous or idiosyncratic. Hence, the only way is to size up the position properly such that if heads we win, tails we don’t lose much in aggregate.

LEAPs vs Margin, one difference would be that dividends would not be credited for LEAPs compared to holding the equity on margin, so the dividends offsets the margin expense, Kiri is like a model tangible investor considering all the tangible factors(valuations, revenue, dividend payout ratio) and that there comes a time when price is too cheap and can overlook everything else, and Eric considers the intangibles(policies, future changes based on historic actions) and prefer not to get in to prevent being penny wise, pound foolish. Nothing wrong with either strategy. Good insights overall Thank you all for this sharing!

There is nothing wrong with being overly concentrated on a few stocks, if you are a trader. But the way that Kiri goes about this is just full of question mark. Being diversify in your stock holding selection is "a way" to lower your "downside" for your portfolio. But a simple stop loss limit on your stock holding would do just as well for your overly concentrated stocks as well. My problem with Kiri is he is quite bullish on alibaba, which I was as well. But instead of purchasing long dated option calls. He gets a margin loan at 6% (mtd;ytd)? I have had 55 long calls on Alibaba (entry price range $72-75); (exited $86 level) He has no risk understanding, but at least he is honest about it.

Kiri's approach does not consider all expect of the company and just mostly on PE values. Def not my kind of approach. I hold BABA but for so many other reasons. But then again, going all in when it is just 40k is totally okay versus a 200k portfolio.

Pure size is not a competitive advantage if it doesn’t bring with it local economies of scale. Kmart was 3X the size of Walmart in the mid 70s and look what happened over the next decade. The company that has a structural cost advantage should win.

BABA entry at 78 is impressive. In the end, all valuation models are opinions, only price is fact. I assumed the target price for BABA was around 160-ish, based on what was said about BABA at 50% discount. Mathematically, an 80% allocation is taking a 50/50 chance for a 100% gain or 40% lost. So, the BABA bet is still within reason. But, the leverage and another China-focus stock in the pot is dubious imo. Perhaps the risk-reward justifies that, who knows.

He mentioned he will hold 5-10 years if baba is the remain stagnant, but may I know how much % interest for the margin leverage he is paying per month?
    Assuming a conservative 5% per month, 1 year = 60%. 10 years = 600%.
After 10 years you will need the stock to go up more than 6x in order to start gaining.
Have he really think through about this? haha
Opps till end of video I just heard his margin interest was 6.1% actually.
I think this guy need help, he could just go doom one day if things go south.
The way he speak about baba just shows me that he is just investing on it base on FOMO.

I just want to say it is really hard to judge the value of a company by just looking at the financial stats. As a Chinese, I would say very few people outside of China understands how strong and competitive PDD is. Alibaba's bigget threat is definitely PDD, and I wouldn't be surpised if PDD overtake Alibaba in terms of GMV and the E-commerce marketshares in china. All the other player like JD, Douyin wouldn't really influence baba's business that much. I actually would say that, if there weren't any trade barriers, Temu(PDD) sooner or later would probably pose a big threat to Amazon.
That being said, Alibaba is pretty cheap. As long as it can hold its E-commerce market share, it will provide huge returns for the investors. But Baba investors really need to follow PDD closely.
