  • Today in the shop I am unboxing and setting up what I think in the best 2x72 belt grinder on the market. Brian House made and sent this to me and I am going to unbox, set it up, test it, and talk about why I think this is the best 2x27 available for all makers.
    Thank you so much for the generosity of Brian from Housemade Industrial and his son Dexter who spent their time building this amazing grinder to give to us at The Art of Craftsmanship. To find out more, or purchase plans, parts, or kits of the Revolution Grinder, head over to housemade.us/

    Aside from the amazing price, getting to assemble it myself was the icing on the cake. I learned new skills, and sharpened others. I made a few mistakes along the way, and had a hell of a time finding a good 3/4" drill bit (the Milwaukee brand is pure garbage) as well as taps that were long enough to tap all the way through. Be sure, those of you contemplating buying this kit, and you'll not be disappointed, source your tools and consumables before you start, in other words DO NOT assume that any hardware store will have what you're looking for, and call ahead, because websites are not always accurate.
    My total cost came to just about $1300. That's the kit, the wheel set, the extra tooling arm and a 7" contact wheel, the cheap VFD, the 3ph 2hp iron horse motor, power cords and a few consumables. I made the enclosure for the VFD out of scrap metal laying around my shop. Brian is a wonderful person to do business with, his passion is contagious, and you'll certainly feel the love he put into this project. If you're on the fence, hop on over, you wont be disappointed :)

    Hell yeah.
    I’ve been watching Brian at House Made for about 3 years now, watching how this grinder has progressed and I’ll tell ya, when I’m finally ready to buy mine I’m absolutely going to purchase mine from Brian.
    Are you kidding me ? The guy is an absolute beast and so is the machine he’s built, and continues to mod. And every mod just gets better and better.

    I'm just starting to build a grinder from scratch according to Brian's design. It probably won't be the same device, but I'll try my best. All works will be posted on my channel. Great presentation and nice workshop.👍

    The Revolution is a great value. I added a welder into the price since I didn’t have one and needed one to build it, and it still made sense to go with the Revolution. Plus now I have a welder!

    Just seeing what The Revolution can do, I feel that even I can make a bushcraft knife.!! Then again it would cost a fortune to get it to the island. Will definitely check the maker's site. Thank you for sharing. Cheers mate. Much appreciation from Christmas Island.

    You should get yourself a ceramic glass platen. I got mine from Pops Knife Supply and it came with the adhesive 3M tape already on the back. I drilled and tapped acouple of holes that sit right below the glass as a safety shelf and VOILA! Super easy to install and gives you a durable belt surface that won't dish out! It cost me less than $25 to do that.

    I agree - great grinders and very likeable, can't argue differently. But not grasping where it is compared specifically to other grinders to suggest why it is for sure the 'best'. I do agree it may be the best way to go, but seems like a stretch if not actually contrasting or doing true comparison test in use.

      It's not even best way to go. I only payed 500 more for one set up and ready to go. There is easily a couple days of messing around just getting parts and a day to build. 3 days of your time is worth something.

    Great video. On my cheap grinder, one thing I couldn’t do without is the ability to grind on a slack belt (an area without the plenum behind it) Can you do that with this grinder?

    • @Beldraakthesludir
      @Beldraakthesludir 2 года назад +1

      The plenum is just bolted on so it’s removable/adjustable. Also the actual contact surface is a separate piece as well, although not included in the kit when I bought mine. I just used some mild steel, but tool steel is recommended.

    Hi, I've been following your channel for a few years. Do you ever take on work for clients? My favorite daily carry knife is a Milwaukee 48-22-1540 FASTBACK 5-in-1 Folding Knife. I like the simplicity of it and the fact it has a real screwdriver with 1/4" changeable bits. I find that very useful in a knife. I hate the serrations on the blade and I had the plastic handles. I would love to have someone take this knife and put wooden handles on it and either grind out the serrations or put a high carbon steel blade (really want a steel where I can get a keen edge on it and the stainless blade on it isn't that great; not bad but just ok) on it (keeping the bottle opener on it). Would this be something you would be interested in doing?

  • @BrighamKindell

    Are you going to put scales on the handle?

    I'm wondering why everything seems to be just tacked together, is it supposed to be that way or did he forget to weld all the way around? But man great design looks good

    • @TheArtofCraftsmanship
      @TheArtofCraftsmanship  2 года назад +1

      Tack welds are perfectly fine for this Machine, although there are a combination of tacks and longer welds. I think full welds would be fine, but maybe overkill for this specific use. Brian definitely knows what he’s doing, and has made and used several of these machines over the last several years. They all seem to be holding up perfectly. Thanks for the question.

    I'm sorry, but did you get a 110 or a 220 motor?
    In my shop I currently only have 110 and wondering if it will decrease the griners performance without the 220.

    • @TheArtofCraftsmanship
      @TheArtofCraftsmanship  2 года назад +1

      The motor can run either, although I only have 110 in my shop. By using 110, I lost about a 1/2 hp, which puts me at 1 1/2, which is plenty of power for this grinder.

      I live here in Arizona, Travis lives just up the road from me and I've been friends with that family, his father and uncles, the better part of 50 years. I have the revolution and it does everything the tw90 does except have that $4,500 price to start, no frills. I agree the tw90 is the Cadillac of all and Travis is a great dude, but I can't afford that. I love my Revolution Gen3, i built it all myself. I have just over $800 total in my grinder and now I have the plans to build another from scrap. The best part of owning that gen 3, my wife loves me even more not spending that extra $3,500. Just my thoughts from a guy in Az
