  • UPGRADING THE HEADLIGHT BULBS TO LED ON A FIAT DUCATO CAMPERVAN
    SINCE RELEASING THIS VIDEO I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE LED BULBS ARE FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY AND NOT SUITABLE FOR UK ROAD USE.
    I THEREFORE DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR BULBS AND YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK
    I AM LOOKING IN TO THIS AND WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE IN THE UK WHO WANTS TO SWAP TO LED BULBS TO CARRY OUT THEIR OWN RESEARCH BEFORE HAND

    I've had my Auxbeam T1 Series Headlights for over 2 and a half years now. Though, the way you have the cover on the back of the housing. It's going to cause the LED to overheat and burn out. I've seen a few cars and trucks that had them die prematurely after 6 months and the cause was trapping the heat inside the headlight housing. The fan on the back of the LED needs fresh air. I have mine in a 2002 Honda Accord and the back of the LEDs are completely exposed. And as of 2 days ago, I opened the hood after driving to my mechanics during a massive snowstorm and noticed that all 4 LEDs have been getting soaked from water getting under the hood. So that being said, you should have no issues if you leave the back of the headlight housing (the rubber covers) off or cut/drill a few holes, so they get fresh air and stay cool.

      @@TravellingfromScratch If your refering to being too bright and blinding people I understand what you're saying. When I adjusted my headlights, I parked a car length away from a car in front of my car. Then I adjusted the top of the beam to the top of the bumper of the car in front. I did a few tests with friends and drove behind them. They said it wasn't blinding them and they could see fine. Thought, one morning, someone did flash their high beams at me, and here it was a lowered Honda Civic so that kind of makes sense. Also, all the utility trucks and semi-trucks (lory is what I think you fellas call them on the other side of the pond) are all using LED.

    The 2019 MX5 that we sold to help pay for the van had full LED lights and it was like driving in daylight. I was going to fit LED bulbs to the van but a quick look at Google showed it would be an MOT failure. That's why several members of CV Owners Group have settled for fitting LED DRL's in the blanks in the front bumper to make their van's more visible with a whiter light to the front. It seems if we want brighter headlights, the only legal option (without replacing the complete headlight units at massive cost) is to fit better halogen bulbs 🙁

    • @TravellingfromScratch
      @TravellingfromScratch  2 года назад +1

      After lots of further research and deliberation I have decided to change the led bulbs and replace them with brighter halogen bulbs as you suggested. If you can find a complete headlamp manufactured to take LED bulbs then that is fine. Try one of each type in each headlight .. drive to somewhere dark and portably trees overhead . Cover each light one at a time and compare. The LED will be throwing light all over the place. Please don't do it.

    If the MOT inspector sees them and they are not "E" marked then its a fail. Also as driving lights they do not have a long-life span. The only LED's on the market that are approved for this application are the OSRAM night breaker H7. Osram supply with the bulbs a sticker which you stick under the bonnet with a type approval number. The high power halogen are okay but do not last long. The Osram are expensive but in the long run work out better. All this is down to bitter experience. I have fitted them all and ended up with the Osram!!!

    LED's although brighter and better are illegal unless fitted to a car from new as far as i am aware, so really its a no no unless you want to keep swapping them everytime it goes in for a MOT. Not sure about insurance though on these aswel, as they are illegal. Osram Night Breakers or similar are better replacement/upgrades, usually 150 % brighter with a more white light, i have Osram's in my MINI Cooper Countryman and are far better than standard lights.
    Did you not get a bulb warning light on the dash? as LED's use less power and the ECU see's it as bulb out as not much currant is been used. Some though are error free, think they have a resistor or something in them that sends a signal to the ECU with the correct power so not to give a warning light. Entertaining video as alwyas though Ian :-)
