This is so amazing and important for me because I'll be hunting ducks for the first time ever soon, and ill be alone. No one I know hunts🤷. And obviously I've never put out decoys in my life. So thank you, this gives me confidence
@@HighPrairieSportsmen appreciate it. I'm in west Florida sooo not really sure how thisll go lol. I'm from Michigan but been down here 14 years. It's just waaay different down here but I'm really excited. Thanks man
Man…. Best filming duck hunts on RUclips! I really enjoy your how you wait for the perfect time to shoot. It shows that the patience that it takes. It’s hard not to shoot on those flyover shots but if you are doing it right then they will give you the shot you want! Thanks again
Another successful solo. Sometimes you don’t need big spread. I take 4 to 6. Still get their attention. The goose...tsk, tsk, you would have got him. It happens. Lol.
Another awsome solo hunt ! You pass up more shots that most hunters would take. That goose o man ! I believe you would of smoked him with the 28 gauge ! It sounds like hunters are getting closer to your spot every time you hunt there. Great sportsmanship Matt another awsome hunt.
Ive done really well before with zero decoys in heavier cover in mn. I use a modified jerk rig. I use a 3ft fiberglass rod with a 6"x6" piece of 1/4" plywood attached to the end with an eye bolt in it. Stick it in the mud so the top with the wood is half in the water, then i run a baitcast reel with 50lb braid on it. Open the spooln walk back to my hide, and give it a few pulls as birds are working. Seems like if they see movement on the water, but cant see the birds right away, and hear callingvthey come back a few times for a better look. Its real lightweight and easy to deploy. Best thing is packing out carrying only my birds and my "jerk rig" that weighs about a pound.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen the reel is a nicer handle than any jerk rig I've seen in stores. Fits the palm of your hand and can adjust to any length FAST. can also make and sting 1-4 of these units together on one line as well.
Beautiful hunt in a t-shirt no less! On a spread that small I would have had the hen on a string to provide a little motion, but you got it done without it! Goose was tragic. Because of where I hunt and the fact that I do not target them I get a goose every other year (if that) so I would have been a bit more frustrated than you! lol. Look forward to the next one.
Sometimes I wonder if a 2-4 decoy spread for those late season ducks would be more inviting? They see 1-3 dozen decoy spreads all season so a smaller spread may make them feel comfortable 🤷🏼♂️
Need a jerk string for one of the decoys, motion,... It's a hassle but once set up it give it gentle jerks it make rings around your decoys and they come like mice to cheese.
Hey Matt, What an awesome hunt. That sky was promising a good hunt before your first shot. Did you have some sort of marsh stool or something to sit on.. ? I'd not be able to stand that long... good work... Blessings
Another excellent video matt I've got a river I'm going to decoy ducks not very wide so I'm thinking of a mini spread maybe 6 decoys and rely on my call to get them in tight do you think it could work ? . Your speed of 2 worked well 👏
Great videos man, just subscribed. Where you located? I'm in West Michigan, too warm this year, but got my first ducks in land St Clair this year! Looking forward to more content.
HELL YEA!!! Thats why we go right there!!! U cant beat that with a STICK!!! LOVE those type of solo hunts!! Hope to find me a few hunts like that this season!!! U shootin a modified choke with boss in ur 28?
Another great hunt Matt. The video of that first mallard drake that you shot was fantastic. Have you ever taken a still photo from your videos? The first mallard coming in with the cloudy blue sky sunrise would make an excellent enlargement print. You could probably market it and sell some copies. Just a thought. Thanks for posting the video.
Why not add what shot size, load, and steel or bismuth. Wouldn't hurt to add choke size and average distance for shots. This would set you apart from other RUclips posters Thx for consideration
😞 I was happy and smiling for that goose to be smoked then I heard “click” but when you doing good in mallards 🦆 I wouldn’t be mad either 👍🏽👍🏽 but still damn that goose was cupping 😩🤯😵💫💀☠️ lol
How the heck can you tell what species or sex they are while they're flying 29 mph!!!! That's something I've really gotta learn. I guess with time in the field it'll come to me
Great hunt but it really makes me mad that to try to make noises with your mouth instead of using a call like it sounds nothing like a quack and it’s cringy just use your call
Has nothing to do with limiting out, it's irresponsible to hunt with a gun that doesn't work, especially a small bore, your gun has jammed in SEVERAL of your videos, what if you had one shot to kill a cripple before it gets away? You obviously don't have a dog.
Great ethics and sportsmanship!!! Glad to see young men of your character in the sport!!!
Appreciate that!
That sunrise was a Christmas card! Love the quiet of the morning. You can hear every sound. Thanks for sharing!
It was a beautiful morning!
Dude loving the solo hunts this year!
Thanks!
That misfire on the goose was so heartbreaking. I think we've all had that exact thing happen before. Also that looks like a real nice place to hunt!
Tell me about it haha. It's such a sweet spot
Man, that first drake that cupped up and came in, talk about in your face! Videos have been insane lately, keep up the good hunts Matt!

Oh my Mallards! Talk about a honey hole. Nice job trying with 2 decoys. Shows you don't need a ton every time.

I have ran just two decoys quite a bit on high pressure ducks and have had great success
Small spreads seem to work great on the high pressure birds
Fantastic hunt. I love solo hunts you can do things how you want and there is only one person to please.

Boss 2 3/4" 5s, mod choke
WTH happened to your gun on the goose. Shure think a jerk cord on one of the dekes would help. The sunrise shots were incomparable!!
Just didn't rack a shell for some reason. Yeah, I'll definitely use a jerk string or Motion Ducks if I head back there again
