Please forgive my ignorance because I live in Canada…what did you have to do to your home to protect it from the hurricane?

No ignorance at all. Our houses in Florida have to be built to withstand extreme winds and our roofs our anchored down. On the windows we have metal storm shutters that protect from debris during hurricanes. We went through Ian 2 years ago and stayed home & my house had a small amount of damage.
