-- About this video --
Today is our fourth day of our Catlins Road Trip and this morning we are checking out McLean Falls! McLean Falls is often said to be the most impressive of the Catlins’ waterfalls so let’s go check it out!
The waterfall is only 2km drive from our accommodation at the Whistling Frog Resort so we get there early to stay the McLean Falls Walk taking about 20 minutes to walk through the forest and to the waterfall. The waterfall is magnificent and a must do in the Catlins!
Next on our itinerary is the Tautuku Estuary Walk. This is another of the short walks in the Catlins which is best done at sunrise or sunset - however it is overcast when we walk it so we just get to enjoy the estuary views and diverse eco-system of this wetland area.
So what do you think of McLean Falls and the Tautuku Estuary? Would you add these activities to your Catlins itinerary? LUK in the comments!

I too got soaking at McLean falls! (Coz it was bucketing rain). I even flew my spark in the rain...
Wow you changed our route on the South Island! We seriously watched this video and changed our route to include this. The falls in this area just look amazing!
The Catlins are simply a must visit, no question about it! What did you end up having to skip in order to make it there?
We are going to skip the West Coast (the glaciers). Which is okay because we were just going to do the walks not helicopter up there. It'll add a few days onto the trip, but we're seeing so much more of what we want to this way.
Oh well, the West coast will have to be on your itinerary during your next trip because it is absolutely awesome!
So many places we want to see, but with just 21 days it's so hard to see it all! Just thrilled to be going!
New Zealand is know for only teasing you on the first trip making you want to come back for more!
Very Informative
Thanks! Have you been to visit the Catlins?
Awesome!!! That looks amazing!!! Wow that is a lot of pictures...I thought my wife was bad 😆 she only takes about 999 photos 🤣
Haha! yeah, 1,000 is a step too far!
1000 photos per day??? that's too many! far too many! think of the time it takes you to go through just to view them! too many!
Yeah, but when you're not the one going through them it's fine ;)
^^^Somehow I think Laura is the one who typed that comment :) I can see it now... Robin is doing whatever, and Laura is spending 1-2 hours per night viewing the daily photos. Unless I am wrong, if so... how long does it take you to view a day's worth of pictures?
Maths example... if you took 1000 photos in a day, and only 3 seconds looking at each one, then that's 20 photos per minute. 20 photos x 50 minutes = 1000
Robin is actually in charge of that, it takes him about 1h-1h30 every day to select the winning shots for the site.
