I thought of you when I did this one earlier. This is way way tougher than your average Tuesday puzzle. Great job for sticking with it! Just lots of obscure knowledge and tricky clues.
The clue "Crossed (out)" means that "*answer* out" is a synonym for "crossed out". "Exed" doesn't mean "crossed", but "exed out" means "crossed out". Also, "Citation abbr." isn't an abbreviation for a synonym of "citation", which would be clued "Citation (abbr.)" but rather an abbreviation used in citations. There are really a lot of these tiny punctuation conventions that subtly affect how you're supposed to parse the clues.
Wow, you got UNIBROW immediately. I was stuck with EYEBROW for a while. Good quick solve (with some help). I spent just over an hour on this but I didn't use help. To finish, I did use your technique of trying every possible letter at the EVIE/VIEIRA cross; I didn't know either of those names.
This one had a few tricky crosses for a Tuesday. In particular EVIE/VIEIRA if you hadn't heard either name before. Luckily I remembered Meredith Vieira from Millionaire, but I could imagine that getting some people. Also NENA/WADI. Wadi was a new word for me, and only knew Nena from previous crosswords.
