I think they did take into consideration some of the social media comments (at least about how offended people were about the stereotyping of French culture) which is why they made her American boss look like a bumbling culturally ignorant stereotype of an American. It felt forced considering her position and where she’s from. I think they were trying to make it even. That said, I can’t imagine an American showing up to the office in half the stuff Emily wears there. Apart from the fact that most everything she wears is tacky, no one would ever wear crop tops, miniskirts, and basically strapless clothing to work. It’s not like she’s trying to fit in at the French office as no one else dresses inappropriately there and that’s just not American to wear stuff like that.

  • @jangreig6206

Lily Collins doesn't have the body or panache to wear such outrageous outfits. It would have been a wonderful opportunity to showcase chic, modern, appropriate French style.

      so true x

    • @chummanki9711
      @chummanki9711 2 года назад

Sylvia's style basically meant that she is comfortable and confident with herself. True, Sylvia is a merciless, no nonsense boss, but she doesn't beat around the Bush and actually works hard to be where she is now, which actually I have a degree of respect for.
Emily's style basically means she really has lost control of her life ( and even in worse degrees ). I mean, before she arrived in Paris, her clothes are pretty ' okay ' ( like not to Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn level of stylish but still more sensible ). But ever since she arrived in Paris, she pools a bulk of her bank account money into buying ridiculously expensive clothes that aren't meant to fit her in the first place rather than taking time to learn French language and culture.
I have a theory that, towards the last episodes of the Series Finale in Emily in Paris, Emily reverts back to her ' regular ' clothes we first see her in Chicago, shows that Emily's cohorts and associates in Paris FINALLY had enough of her and she has no choice but to leave Paris after FINALLY being fired.
That would be CLASSIC, cuz IRL no one would even hire a person like Emily in the first place.

My honest reaction was “Why is this worse than the first one?!” I was baffled. I think the producers have found that negative attention still is attention. THIS x10000000000000. I think it all looks ridiculous because as pretty as she is, she doesn't have the personality to make them work. A classic example of the clothes wearing the person. I'm personally not a fan of SJP, but she had an edge to her that made the (sometimes eccentric) looks work.

I really wish Netflix would listen to social media opinions on the clothes Frederique. One of the reasons I was so looking forward to this show was to see the glamour and elegance of Paris and all the chic French clothes.....but what a disappointment! It's like they went into a fancy dress shop, shook the rails and wore whatever fell on the floor 🤦🏻‍♀. Emily is so small and thin and so garish that she looks like a child let loose in a dressing up box. What a missed opportunity for the producers.....

For me, Emily in Paris is a fun show to watch. There are lots of clichés for sure. But her outfits are fun and unrealistic, the least. I don’t take the show seriously. It is entertainment.

Brilliant analysis on the clothes!!😄 I was laughing to the end!!😂
Since the ugly bucket hat with the black and white print was mentioned: I remember a scene with her sitting at a hotel bar with Gabriel being upset about the evening going wrong, and mentioning, "I wish I had a bucket hat to throw up in right now."
At this point I was sitting on the edge of my seat, thinking, "Oh please!! Can you?! 🙊 can we do it with all of them so they won't hurt our eyes for the rest of this series!" 😂
Thank you for the video Frédérique!! ❤️ Please keep making more of them for us to enjoy!
I agree with you that a lot of the clothes worn by Emily in the series seems very much like Sex and the City.
But it doesn't make sense in the context of Paris. It's a bit of a disaster!

Loved your jewel comments, Frederique!!! Spot on. In my view, they did the same thing in the second season to sustain the press they got because look how many influencers are commenting on all the goofy costumes. The show has nothing else worthwhile, so this is how they grabbed public attention.

Marylin Fitoussi leans towards bold colourful prints in her custom design. I think the point is to make Emily's style slightly offensive. As she is a young America woman not a Parisian, feeding on a stereotype. I have not personally watched the show, but I do see many RUclipsrs saying it is not a style indicative of French women, but I do not think that is the intent of her outfits. I assume as the series moves forward Emily will grow and mature in her fashion or perhaps Emily likes to stand out and maybe we the viewer should allow her to. After all there really are no rules in fashion just social norms.

Emily's costume designer succeeded in getting critics and attention from the audience due to her outrageous fashion design. It's pure marketing. People want to see what awful outfits Emily will wear in the next episode. That's the goal.

I agree!!! Costumes! Not real clothing. Inappropriate for real life situations. It’s theater, but supposed to be like real life so it’s very distracting and out of place and silly. Unless most real people are actually dressing like that. Which they aren’t. Yet. 😖

The point of the show is to exaggerate Emily being counter to the French culture. That’s why everything is extra with her. She’s adorable. I love the show, it’s light hearted and fun. You need to better understand rather than criticize and practice what you preach. Lift women, don’t tear them down.

@@ms.frederique No, it is not to mock the French or the culture. It’s a light hearted show to bring humor surrounding the star of the show, Emily. If your watched it, her American boss is mocked throughout her time on it. I watch this show, I have a clear understanding. I love French culture, the show is not mocking the French.

I in 2nd season now. I agree on all of this. I knew Paris wasnt how it appeared in the show and the fashion... I hated every oufit Emily wore. I thought this isnt serious? Maybe because she is an American character and they betrayed her with bad fashion for a comedy aspect. 🤷‍♀️
I loved Sylvie's style though, especially in season 1.

I think that producers want tgis exageration because according to them Emily must be distinctive and because she is working with designers rhanks to Savoir, her outfits are like haute couture (and let's be honest even very famous designers have horrible clothes in their collections, for ordinary people this is horrible and for them this FASHION and if sombody doesn't understand they say "you know nothing about fasjion bacause it is fun, art and dare). I would prefer "useful" clothes which I can wear to celebrate various occasions. If it comes to her seqiened dress I must say that in Poland many girls wear gold and silver sequined dress during New Years Eve.

When I started to watch this TV Series I was not expecting much of the truth being showed about Paris or french people or Americans or whoever in Paris. I think the show is actually an amazing satire on everything: stereotypes about french, Americans and British too. I think there is also a very good reason as to why she dresses and looks so out of place in Paris: she is an American girl, with an American understanding of what french fashion actually looks like, who stands out as definitely not french compared to all of the french ladies she is surrounded with. The goal of the show, to my mind, was not to blend her in with other french people but completely opposite - make her stand out. And I think they achieved it very well, probably highlighting all of it on purpose. :)

If Emily is a representation of American young women then heaven help us. Absolutely no respect to difference of culture and acceptable behaviour. Emily in Paris is not a documentary..it is entertainment. I live in Paris…I see Emily in Paris style all the time..especially during Fashion week. She is supposed to be a midwestern girl who thinks she has fashion sense and cranks it up in Paris where she thinks she can…. It is meant to look dumb…. Btw she was supposed to be in St Tropez but she is actually in Ville Franche That bothered me more than her joke on fashion.
