South Africa: Land Law at the Centre of Trump Row Challenged in Court by DA | Firstpost Africa
The newly signed land seizure law, which has triggered South Africa's tensions with the United States has now been challenged at a court by a party in the country's ruling government coalition. South Africa's second-largest party, the Democratic Alliance (DA) which is also a coalition member with President Cyril Ramophosa's African National Congress (ANC) has filed a court case against the controversial land expropriation act. The law allows the government to seize farmland without any compensation under some circumstances. US President Donald Trump has frozen foreign aid to South Africa alleging that land is being confiscated already. He has called the law a violation of human rights. Not just this, he has also offered to resettle South African farmers and their families as refugees in the United States. Watch for more.
